Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 754: Chapter 388: A Guest Is a Guest

Nathan Sheldon curled his lips and looked at Ruby Sheldon for a moment, suddenly puzzled, ”Huh? Didn’t you wear a different dress today? Why did you suddenly change?”

For this birthday party, Ruby Sheldon had tried on dresses abroad several times before finally settling on that Dior haute couture piece. She was so thrilled when she decided on it that she took all sorts of photos to post on her social media circle.

Nathan Sheldon had even liked her post.

Moreover, today, he saw with his own eyes Ruby Sheldon putting on that cherry blossom pink dress and sitting in an electric cart with their mother, Autumn Stetford, heading to the Emerald Pavilion.

Ruby Sheldon initially felt better, but when Nathan asked, she couldn’t help but feel low, lowering her head and mumbling, ”Big brother, please don’t ask. I don’t want to talk about it.”

She twisted her body, looking both stubborn and aggrieved.

Nathan Sheldon was somewhat surprised, ”What’s going on? Did someone offend the little princess of the Sheldon family?”

Ruby Sheldon bit her lip, half-raising her head to glance at Nathan Sheldon.

”Big brother, when those ladies arrive later, you’ll know. I... I... I couldn’t help it either,” she said, wiping the corner of her eyes, ”How was I supposed to know someone would wear an almost identical dress...”

”Is that so?! Wasn’t your dress haute couture? You can still have a fashion clash?”

”...Strictly speaking, it’s not completely identical. That’s why I said ’almost identical’, because the color is different, and there are some different details. But you can tell at a glance it’s the same style, so... So... I had to change.” Ruby Sheldon looked dejected.

She lowered her head, her foot clad in white mid-heel shoes grinding back and forth on the grass.

Nathan Sheldon laughed, ”To attend a party at our house and dare to wear the same outfit as the host, I’d like to see who this person is...”

While he was speaking, the ladies came down from the covered walkway, one after another ascending the side steps onto the corridor of the Fortune Pavilion.

It was at this moment he saw an elegant woman in a light champagne-colored vintage dress, walking gracefully from the direction of the white lace wall, approaching step by step.

Without Ruby’s guidance, Nathan Sheldon instantly understood that it must be this woman who forced Ruby to change out of her cherry blossom pink dress of the same style.

It truly needed changing.

The dress on that woman was a different story compared to when it was on Ruby.

Previously, he thought Ruby looked beautiful in it, but seeing this woman, he realized what true beauty was.

She walked leisurely along the corridor of the Fortune Pavilion not far away, but her enchanting yet ethereal aura set her apart from those around her.

It couldn’t be mistaken.

Nathan Sheldon frowned.

Although this woman was indeed exceptionally beautiful, she lacked any social etiquette.

When you attend someone else’s party, don’t you inquire about the host’s attire to avoid a fashion clash?

Dressing intentionally like this, are you trying to embarrass the host family?

Even though Ruby Sheldon hadn’t uttered a word of complaint, her body language expressed her low spirits and embarrassment quite clearly.

When Ruby was born, Nathan was already ten years old.

When Autumn Stetford was pregnant, she experienced a lot of complications, and the labor was difficult. Nathan worried for a long time, fearing both his mom and sister would be in danger.

Eventually, Ruby was born safely, but she stayed in the hospital for a long time and underwent numerous surgeries just to pull through.

He knew her health was still fragile, possibly waning at any moment, so he spoiled her, not wanting anyone or anything to upset her.

But of course, his pampering couldn’t exceed that of his parents.

He knew his parents doted on this little sister to the core.

Over the years, they did many things to protect Ruby, some of which Nathan even found hard to accept.

This time, if Aiden Sheldon found out, who knows how unlucky that woman would be.

Nathan Sheldon pondered internally as he walked with Ruby towards the Fortune Pavilion on the other side of the lawn, asking softly, ”Does mom know about this?”

”Mom knows, she was present,” Ruby pouted, ”That girl who wore the same dress as me came with Mrs. Foster, and mom didn’t say a word.”

Nathan raised an eyebrow, ”Is she from the Foster family?”

How did he not know the Foster Family had such a beautiful girl?

Ruby shook her head, ”No, she’s quite good at ingratiating herself with people, making Mrs. Foster very happy. She used to try to cozy up to me, but I’m not good at socializing and didn’t know how to be friends with people. Plus, dad and mom felt she had ulterior motives, telling me not to associate with her. So, I didn’t agree to be her friend, and as a result...”

She sighed with grievance, ”Forget it, big brother, let’s pretend it didn’t happen, anyway...”

She turned around and walked backwards, doing a ballet move with a fluent spin, smiling, and said, ”Anyway, I’m fine now! Besides, I think my dress looks better! It’s a blessing in disguise, right, big brother?”

Nathan nodded with satisfaction, saying tactfully, ”Betty, it’s best if you think that way. That girl has dubious intentions, it’s right not to engage with her. But guests are guests, let’s just drop today’s matter, and don’t bring it up to dad. After the birthday party, big brother will help you regain face.”

”Okay! Thank you, big brother! I knew you treasured me most!” Ruby’s eyes lit up, hugging Nathan’s arm and resting her head against it.

Nathan patted her head, thinking he’s finally managed to comfort her.

He wasn’t going to trouble that girl, just intended to keep Ruby from telling Aiden Sheldon.

If Aiden asked, this way he could gloss over it.

But he underestimated Ruby.

As they walked up the steps, they just happened to see Lucas Harlow—or rather, Evan Stetford—coming from the opposite end of the corridor.

He walked with steady steps, a calm expression, his eyes locked onto a spot, heading towards them.

Ruby was about to call out to him excitedly when she saw Evan quicken his pace and catch up to the woman in the light champagne-colored dress ahead.

He exclaimed joyfully, ”Lawrence, is it really you?”
