Death… And Me

Chapter 4300: New Vein

Volunteer work had set requirements when given. If you were asked to do something else when you took that job that wasn’t part of the agreement, you didn’t need to do it. You were already working for free, after all.

However, to encourage the volunteers to do more, several rules were put in place to benefit them. One of the rules was that if you found anything not related to your work and that wasn’t listed in any of the reports of the general job, you were entitled to keep a certain percentage of its value or volume.

Of course, that only happened when it was a job from the guilds. If it were a company or some other private organization, like a sect, clan, business, or so on, they could write their own terms and only had to pay the taxes. Fortunately, this was indeed a guild job.

How much you could get for yourself depended on the contents. For what Kentucky and Doton were doing, where the volume of the rare ore would be in the several thousands of tons, they were likely to get only a single percent of it.

Don’t look down on that number. Considering the size of the mine, a single percent would be more than Rean and Kentucky could use or eat for hundreds of years, probably more. They didn’t need that much. They only needed not to have to pay for the amount they would use.

That’s why Kentucky said that there was no problem if they were found out... after they discovered the ores. If they are found out before that, the Besgol Region would understand that those two were after something else. They would send Kentucky and Closandro out and find the ores there themselves. Kentucky and Closandro wouldn’t gain anything.

No one expected this place to have anything else. A Celestial Stones Mine was already pretty good in its own right. That’s why it was being prepared fast and with care. It would benefit the Besgol Region as a whole.

As for the total amount of ores present, thousands of tons might look like a lot, but we are now talking about the entire Besgol Region making use of it. A single percent was a lot for Kentucky and Closandro, but even the entire amount wasn’t much if it was going to be used all over the Besgol Region.

Kentucky and Closandro worked fast, and they were able to close the gap behind as they dug deeper. Even better, since they had just excavated close to this place, the Celestial Energy Overflow wasn’t a problem. Celis and the other experts responsible for addressing it have already done so. It would take time for the accumulation of Celestial Energy in the air to reach problematic levels again.

Well, both of them kept a close eye on each other. They were after the same thing, but what if the other tried something to get the rewards alone? It was fortunate that both Closandro and Kentucky felt that the amount of ore they could claim from this place was more than enough.

Finally, the two excavated far enough to reach the ore vein, and they took out a sample. ”So this is it...”

Closandro and Kentucky looked at each other. They didn’t know why or how, but it was definitely an instantaneous mutual understanding.

Closandro smiled a little. ”I see you are a demon beast of culture.”

Kentucky nodded slightly, a calm expression on his face. ”Likewise.”

*Gulp!*

*Gulp!*

The two Demon Beasts swallowed the ore at the same time, with no reservations whatsoever.

”Delicious!”

Then... they continued to gobble more and more without a care for the world. They could report it later. Filling their bellies took priority at that moment.

Celis watched that through the connection and felt helpless. ’Should I call him Kentucky number two?’ He thought to himself.

Well, there was zero killing intent coming from Closandro, so Celis ignored and let the two do as they pleased. They found the ore, so they just had to bring it back together.

A few hours later, with very heavy bellies, Kentucky and Closandro returned to the tunnel that led to the surface, where the Spirit in charge was working. They showed what they found to the Spirit, who checked the ore and was quite impressed.

”Astryte Ore!” Jui’Fiyi said. ”You found an Astryte Ore Vein there? Really?!”

Kentucky and Closandro nodded. ”We found it a little strange this Celestial Energy overflow. It was too concentrated. We discussed it and worked together. After all, we can keep some of it if it is not part of the overall job being done here.”

Jui’Fiyi didn’t complain. It was indeed part of the rules. It’s just that no one expected that such an ore vein was within a Celestial Stones mine. ”No, wait. The Celestial Stones Mine appeared because of the Ore Vein! You two little sneaky bastards. You noticed it ahead of time, didn’t you?”

”Hehehe!” Closandro didn’t deny or confirm it. ”You can think whatever you want. Don’t forget our part. I’m going back to the excavation now. My breaktime is about to end anyway, and I must finish the volunteer mission regardless of whether I found something different or not.”

Jui’Fiyi didn’t mind. He himself would gain a bonus now that he was also in charge of the Astryte Ore Vein. ”Yeah, yeah. Don’t worry. The report will be made accordingly. You two can expect your part to be calculated within the next few weeks as we determine the vein’s size.”

The news that an Astryte Vein was found quickly spread in the mine, and then into the mainland. The various powers moved quickly, trying to negotiate who would keep what, how it could help the region, and so on. One thing was certain, though. Kentucky and Closandro were reported to get 0.7% of the total for themselves.

Yes, it was less than 1%, but that was because the vein was actually much larger than they expected. At the end of the day, they got even more of that ore than they initially thought they would.

Yet, the one who looked the happiest was not really in that mine. Instead, he was all the way back in the Arrays Guild. ”Astryte Ore! Hahaha! That’s an excellent Celestial Energy conductor! Very resistant and malleable at the same time! Well done, Kentucky, Celis!”

Rean couldn’t help but smile from ear to ear.
