Death… And Me

Chapter 4287: Volunteer

Meanwhile, back in the Demon Beasts district in the inner sect, Celis received a message through his Ring Communicator.

-Demon Tree: Celis-

-Your presence is required for a volunteer task at Area VC81.-

-You have one week to report to the Godly Subjugation Guild.-

”Hum?” Celis was surprised to receive that one. ”The Godly Subjugation Guild?”

Celis quickly contacted the sect through their own support channel, puzzled. ”I received a task from the Godly Subjugation Guild for volunteer work? I thought only the sect had those.”

-That is not correct, sir. The Guilds can also request the various powers for help, and the system decides who is best suited for the task ahead. If you received the message, it’s because the system judged that you would be free within at most a week and that your abilities meet the requirements.-

The support guy continued. -Failure to report to the guild within the specified time will result in a penalty, which could be some other task or monetary penalty. Be aware.-

Celis turned off his RC after hearing that. Truth be told, he indeed didn’t have anything to do for the moment. Still, he contacted Kentucky and the others to speak about it.

’Oh! So you got that,’ Rean said, still in the Arrays Guild. ’I gave it a quick check, and the ones who are selected for these volunteer tasks are those who are free. The system checks if you have had any breakthroughs recently, and if you have, the system knows you won’t have another one anytime soon.’

’But why only Celis?’ Kentucky asked too.

Which Roan answered. ’After our performance in the last mission, it became pretty obvious what we can do. Since they specifically requested Celis, it is because his energy control and absorption abilities will come in handy.’

’Exactly,’ Rean agreed. ’If I were to guess, you will likely help with the maintenance or building of some arrays where the Array Masters aren’t that high level. Of course, it could be something completely different. Your World Swallowing Cedar skills have many uses.’

Celis knew there wasn’t much he could do. ’Well, so be it. Since I’m going out, I guess I’ll make the most of it. I’ll be able to cultivate at least.’

Rean and the others understood. ’So, Area VC81 is outside the Sacred Relic’s Influence?’

’Yes,’ Celis confirmed. He had already checked it before he contacted the rest of the group. ’It is not far from the watchposts, though. Just a few hundred kilometers into the Godly Creatures’ Territory.’

’Kentucky should go with you, then,’ Roan said. ’He can use his nest, and that will help you with your cultivation, which will help all of us.’

’Ehhh...’ Kentucky definitely didn’t want to go.

’Or Kentucky can have some training sessions with me so we can get used to our Anchor God Realm abilities,’ Roan added.

’What an amazing day for exploration! Let’s go, Celis!’ Kentucky would definitely take cultivation on all days of the week to avoid Roan and his training sessions.

Celis obviously liked the idea. The more he can cultivate, the better. Since it is outside the Sacred Relic’s Influence, he and Kentucky could absorb the Godly Pressure to create Godly Energy. It wasn’t as fast as using Godly Crystals, but it was better than not cultivating at all.

’But can Kentucky go?’ Celis asked.

’He can,’ Rean confirmed once again. ’Volunteer work is actually always available ahead of time. They become obligatory only for those who receive the request, which happens when the deadline is approaching and no one has volunteered for that task until that moment.’

’Just go with Kentucky to the Godly Subjugation Guild and have him apply for the same volunteer work. He doesn’t have your abilities, but you can say you want him to be with you for the sake of protection. The Besgol Region doesn’t care if others tag along since, as you know, it is volunteer work. No one is paying anything.’

’Great!’ Celis quickly began to change back to his humanoid form. ’Let’s go, Kentucky. Meet me on the way to the airplanes.’

’Yeah, yeah...’ Kentucky did the same and left.

---

With those two gone, Rean returned his attention to Araujo. But then, he got curious. ’By the way, what are you doing? I can feel that you are on the move.’ Rean asked Roan only.

’I got a mission,’ Roan answered. ’It is not volunteer work, nor is it something the sect threw on me. I selected one to explore the Godly Creatures Territory.’

[Just one thing,] Sister Orb warned Roan. [The Soul Connection Range is not the entire Celestial Plane. In fact, it is only one hundred kilometers in there. At the moment, it makes no difference since even outside the connection range, you guys can still talk to each other. The Yin Yang Sanctuary can’t be used anyway since it needs Rean to be close to Roan. I just want you guys to keep it in mind for future system abilities that you might want to use.]

’Oh!’ Rean suddenly remembered something. ’Sister Orb, how many Orb Points did we make after the end of the mission in Area M17?’

[Uh? Did you forget? You need to kill 100 Godly Beasts to get a single point. If you kill them inside the Sacred Relic’s Influence, which you did, you need 200 of them. Did you kill 200 Godly Beasts?]

Rean sighed in response. ’No...’

[You aren’t that far, though. You got 186 Godly Beast Crystals, remember? Yes, you gave 30% of it away in taxes, but that doesn’t matter for the system, me. Just another 14 Godly Beasts, and you will gain an Orb Point.]

Roan took the chance to ask. ’What if I kill 7 Godly Beasts outside the Influence? Will it count as 14 inside?’

[No,] Sister Orb answered. [Their counters are separated. You would need to kill 100 outside.]

’Understood.’ Roan didn’t even bother complaining. It couldn’t be changed anyway. ’In any case, I’m going out to explore the Godly Creatures’ Territories. I want to take a look at what to expect later on.’
