Death… And Me

Chapter 3757: Sacrifices

”Oh! You’re back!” Kentucky smiled, wondering if Roan waited for that timing. ”So, do you know anything about the Werdlem Network?”

Roan glanced at him. ”What are you talking about? I wasn’t even paying attention to you guys.”

”Meh...” Kentucky gave up talking to Roan. ”So, Rean, what about the Werdlem Network?”

”I told you already, didn’t I?” Rean shrugged. ”There is no mention of the Werdlem Empire in this Universe’s Network. And I can guarantee that the Network here is not connected to the Werdlem Empire’s Network either.”

[He is right,] Sister Orb confirmed. [The network the Devils and the rest of the Universe are using is an independent thing. With the communication devices Rean bought, I now know which signal to watch over. It is different from the Werdlem Network signal that is also present here.]

”Someone must have access to it...” Zangeshu remembered something. ”When Sister Orb used Rifindio’s Authority to investigate which Universe had the Corrupt System, she found quite a lot of information about this one, didn’t she? Since the information is being fed into the Werdlem Network, there have to be Werdlem Empire-related experts who keep the information flowing.”

”Exactly!” Rean nodded. Then, he called Tanxan and Zangeshu. ”And that’s what we are going to use to find out who is feeding the Werdlem Empire’s Network.”

Tanxan and Zangeshu immediately understood. ”Right! Since the Werdlem Network is underutilized, we can develop a Circuitry Formation instrument to detect devices communicating with it. They will stand out like a sun in the middle of darkness!”

”Sure enough, Formations Masters know each other the best. Hahaha!” Rean was happy they understood his plan.

Of course, he didn’t forget to check on Roan. ”By the way, I wasn’t paying attention to you. Where did you go?”

”Done with your nerd talk?” Roan finally spoke about why he left Rean and Kentucky earlier. ”We can’t open Spatial Gates, so how exactly are we going to travel? That’s what I left to check.”

Everyone immediately paid attention. ”Then? What did you find?”

Roan narrowed his eyes. ”At least in this city, no one uses Teleport Formations. There is a Formations Guild here, but they called me crazy when I asked about it. Most likely, it is related to the shadow beings sealed behind the fabric of space.”

Rean thought about it for a moment. ”I see... As you know, Spatial Gates and Teleportations work in two different ways. Spatial Gates literally open a breach in the fabric of space, and we travel behind it to reach our destinations. The higher our level, the further and faster we can get from one point to the other.”

”Teleportations, on the other hand, bend space, allowing you to cross from one side to the other. That’s why Teleportations have always been faster to use when you want to travel long distances.”

Kentucky also understood. ”If I’m not wrong, the bend of space created by the teleportations fragilizes space itself, and it is likely that those shadow beings use that moment to try to open a gap to the outside. The fragile location is definitely at the midpoint between two teleport formations since that’s where space bends most during the transfer from both sides. It’s not as dangerous as a Spatial Gate, where we create the gap for them, but it is still a big risk.”

”Yes.” Rean agreed with Kentucky there. ”So, no teleport formations either.”

But then, the problem was obvious. ”So... if we can’t use either the Spatial Gates or the Teleport Formations, just how are we going to leave the Underworld? It won’t do to just go to the Divine Realm either. After all, the location of the Corrupt System is a Galaxy somewhere outside of it.”

[About that, I already found where the galaxy is located,] Sister Orb said, one of those disc communication devices floating in front of her. [As you remember, I found which Universe was the right one based on the experts who appeared here, those who died of unknown causes. They had abilities somewhat similar to the ones given by our system. Well, using them as a starting point, I got a location.]

Sister Orb made an image appear in front of everyone. [It is a good thing that this Universe’s Network is separated from the Werdlem Empire’s Network. There is a lot more information about them here, and although there isn’t a specific location, I just had to piece together their history. All of them became famous before dying around the same time, after all.]

The image was a star chart, the type used to travel through the Universe without getting lost. What System Orb showed wasn’t a galaxy specifically. In fact, the location she was showing was completely empty. There, she marked a huge area. [Wherever this corrupt system is, it is definitely around this place.]

”What about the galaxy?” Rean asked back.

[Don’t worry. It is there. It’s just that it has been removed from all Star Charts. It looks empty, but I can guarantee there is a galaxy around this area, maybe more than one.]

”And that brings us back to the previous topic,” Zangeshu insisted. ”From what Sister Orb is showing, this area is in the Mortal Realm, not even the Divine Realm, Heaven, or Underworld. How exactly are we going there? We can’t use teleportation and spatial gates.”

Rean looked at Roan. ”But the Devils and the other experts from other higher realms must have a way to travel long distances without making the shadow beings escape, right?”

”They do,” Roan nodded. ”They found a way of creating provisional temporal paths.”

The twins used temporal paths quite a few times already, mostly back in Lisan. It’s just that temporal paths were a natural occurrence, not something artificial. They are neither Spatial Gates nor Teleportation. They are a type of tunnel that always connects different realms, and they can be quite dangerous if not stable. In a certain way, they are similar to Abyssal Paths.

”Alright, we need to take one of those temporal paths,” Kentucky understood. ”So, what’s the catch?”

Roan explained with a cold voice. ”Sacrifices. The way to open the paths is to have deaths occur.”
