Chapter 2585: Military Recruitment(8)

In the blink of an eye, before anyone watching could even comprehend what they’d just witnessed, Yuan had already reached the 25th target at 30,000 meters.

However, he did not stop there and continued shooting at the same pace.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

The Limitless-made bullets tore through the air with precision, striking the 26th target at 32,000 meters, then the 27th at 34,000 meters.

Then, in the time it takes for one to blink their eyes, Yuan shattered the 28th target at 36,000 meters and the 29th at 38,000 meters, leaving just a single bullet left.

However, instead of shooting it straight at the target as he’d done with the last 29 bullets, Yuan made the bullet spiral as it flew toward the 30th target at 40,000 meters.

Crack!

The sound of the target being shattered resounded, even though the target was invisible at that moment.

”...”

”...”

”...”

Everyone stared at Yuan with stunned expressions, left completely speechless by his unfathomable performance, which took less than a minute to complete.

After finishing his trial, Yuan casually walked back to the group, all of them still gawking at him with bewildered faces.

However, a voice suddenly resounded through the speakers, ”Number 42,011. The higher-ups have requested that you continue the trial until you miss three shots back-to-back.”

Yuan halted when he heard this and turned to look at Sergeant Zao with a puzzled expression.

Sergeant Zao swallowed nervously and slowly nodded his head before speaking, ”You heard the higher-ups. Continue until you miss three shots at a time.”

Without saying another word, Yuan returned to range 12, where the 31st target was already flying 45,000 meters away.

Not only was it turning invisible, but it would stay invisible for five whole seconds before reappearing for a split second. Of course, it was also moving in an unpredictable pattern.

Despite that, Yuan attacked it without hesitation, hitting the target with precision.

The 32nd target appeared a second later at 50,000 meters.

A few moments later, Yuan reached the 40th target at 90,000 meters without missing a single shot, leaving the spectators bewildered.

Many of them couldn’t even see that far, let alone hit it!

”Is it possible that he’s somehow cheating?” One of the participants suddenly questioned aloud.

”Cheating? And how would he achieve that with so many people watching?”

”I-I don’t know... I’m just throwing the possibility out there since it’s so hard to believe what I am seeing to be real.”

”I don’t blame you. I am also in disbelief right now. Just who is that guy? Does anyone know?”

Everyone there shook their heads.

As for Mei Xiaoyun, not wanting to deal with the hassle, she remained silent.

Meanwhile, Shi Fa and Wu Wang watched from afar.

”That fucking monster is casually achieving what experienced elite soldiers could barely achieve after decades of training!” Wu Wang cried out loud.

”He is already beyond what a monster can achieve...” Shi Fa sighed before continuing, ”I doubt he’s even human.”

Some time later, Yuan reached the 50th target at 200,000 meters. However, even though he was capable of hitting it, he deliberately missed all three shots because he couldn’t be bothered to continue.

Of course, he also deliberately started missing one or two shots for the last five targets to not make it too obvious.

”Looks like that was my limit,” Yuan said in a somewhat disappointed voice, pretending to look sad.

”There’s no need to be disappointed. Believe it or not, you’re already at the level of our elite soldiers,” Sergeant Zaos said.

”Is that so?”

Yuan then asked, ”Anyway, do I get any bonus reward for that?”

”That’s...” Sergeant Zao opened his mouth but was speechless for a moment.

Eventually, he replied in a somewhat awkward tone, ”That will be up to the higher-ups. If they decided you deserve a bonus reward, then you will get it.”

”Alright.”

The trial had stopped momentarily when Yuan was called back to the range, but now that he was done, the remaining participants who had yet to shoot were called to the range.

Meanwhile, in the private spectator’s room, the higher-ups spoke about Yuan’s achievements.

”Quite frankly, I think we should just make him an elite soldier from the get-go,” one of them suggested.

”I agree. Not only are his capabilities far beyond the ordinary soldier, but he even rivals some of our most experienced elite soldiers.”

”I am afraid that might set a bad precedent since nobody has ever received such treatment before, and even that monster recruited by General Mei had to climb the ranks normally, albeit faster than others.”

”Then are you suggesting we throw him in with the other soldiers? His presence will undoubtedly affect their morale and confidence. Don’t you remember what happened with the other one? Her mere presence lowered morale to dangerous levels. I don’t even want to imagine how catastrophic it would be with this guy, who’s even more monstrous.”

”What is your opinion on this matter, General Gu?” Someone there suddenly asked him.

General Gu pondered for a moment before responding, ”I agree that we shouldn’t mix him with the other soldiers. However, we also shouldn’t be too obvious with our favoritism. How about this? We won’t outright make him an elite soldier. Rather, we’ll give him a mission and promote him after he completes it.”

”That’s perfect! If we give him a mission that most soldiers cannot handle, nobody would complain about his promotions!”

”That’s good and all, but he still has one more trial to pass before he qualifies—”

”What nonsense are you talking about? Even if he fails the next trial, nobody would be dumb enough to actually disqualify him.”

”Speaking of the final trial... who should we pair against him? I doubt it would be entertaining if we followed the plan.”

”I already have someone in mind,” General Gu said with a mysterious grin.

The others swallowed nervously after seeing his expression.

”Try not to go overboard, General... After all, he is General Mei’s—”

”General Mei? If we let her get a hold of him, her position within the military will definitely become unshakable. We cannot allow such a thing to happen!” General Gu shouted, slamming the desk in irritation and instantly silencing the room.
