Chapter 2580: Military Recruitment(3)

The path for the trial was a simple one-way road, and for the first hundred miles, there were no obstacles or traps.

However, the moment Yuan reached the hundred-mile mark, the real trial began. Arrows suddenly flew at him from both sides, and since his view was obstructed by large bushes on either side of the path, he had to rely on his senses and reflexes to avoid them.

Naturally, such traps were no different from a child’s play in Yuan’s eyes, and he could avoid them even with his eyes closed. However, for the other participants, the traps were difficult to handle because many had not been properly trained.

Yuan avoided all traps without stopping, but the participants around him had to stop moving to dodge the arrows.

”His senses and reaction are quite spectacular, but it’s not unprecedented.”

”It’s still too early to judge him since the trial has just begun.”

The high-ranking soldiers continued to chat as they watched the trial from their private room.

Of course, Yuan wasn’t the only one being shown on the screen.

”Recruit 24,192 is mine.”

”He’s not bad, but I’m calling dibs on 64,123.”

Since Mei Feng had already claimed Yuan for herself and nobody wanted to fight with her, they had no choice but to scout other soldiers for their division.

Some time later, Yuan reached the two-hundred-mile mark, and the traps changed slightly. Although arrows continued to fly toward him, something new had been added.

’Hm?’

Yuan noticed a red laser aimed at his body. When he looked down, he saw a red dot marking his heart.

The red dot was initially as large as a fist, but it quickly shrank until it became so small that it vanished entirely.

Just before the red dot disappeared, Yuan twisted his body, narrowly avoiding a bullet that shot toward the exact spot where it had been aimed.

As Yuan continued forward, the number of arrows and bullets flying toward him increased. Still, it was nowhere near enough to challenge him.

’This is a bit boring...’ Yuan thought to himself, even feeling an urge to yawn.

Meanwhile, the participants around him continued to fall left and right...With Yuan somewhat contributing to their failure because of how much he distracted them.

”?!?!”

”What the hell?! How is he moving at that speed and avoiding the traps simultaneously?!”

Eventually, Yuan ran a thousand miles, completing the first lap.

On the second lap, the traps did not activate for the first hundred miles, just like the first.

Yuan prepared for the traps to activate past the 100-mile mark, but he reached the 200-mile mark without being attacked by a single trap.

Just as Yuan began to wonder whether there were any traps on the second lap, his eyebrows suddenly twitched, and he tilted his head slightly to the right.

Whoosh!

A breeze brushed against his cheek as an invisible arrow shot past him.

”Invisible traps now, huh?”

Although the arrows were completely invisible to the naked eye, they were all imbued with Limitless. As long as one paid close attention, they could still sense them approaching.

By now, Yuan had surpassed every participant who started before him and had reached first place.

”If he continues at this pace, he’ll break the record by a landslide!”

”This guy might just be even more monstrous than the last one General Mei recruited!”

Upon realizing this, the high-ranking soldiers began contemplating whether they should try to recruit Yuan despite Mei Feng’s warning—whether he was worth offending her over.

Even though Mei Feng had found him first and called dibs on him, there was no rule stating that he had to join her division, nor was there anything preventing the others from trying to recruit him. In fact, such a thing was quite common.

A few of the soldiers suddenly felt the urge to look at General Gu. When they glanced in his direction, they saw an excited—almost perverted—smile on his face, as though he were staring at something he deeply desired.

Seeing this, they quickly realized that General Gu was likely planning to compete with Mei Feng and recruit Yuan to his side.

’Looks like things will get chaotic soon...’

The soldiers sighed inwardly.

After reaching the 700-mile mark, the red dots returned, but several would appear at once, and the frequency of their appearance also increased.

Yet, it did not slow down Yuan in the slightest. If anything, he sped up because he wanted to end the trial as soon as possible since it was too boring.

Eventually, Yuan reached the end.

”T-Two hours and fifty-nine minutes?!” The soldiers cried out loud after seeing Yuan’s time.

”He broke the record by seven whole hours!”

Yuan approached one of them and asked, ”What now? I just finished my second lap.”

The soldiers stared at him in silence, their mouths agape.

”Um... you can keep the badge and bracelet, so you just need to return your necklace.”

Once the soldiers acquired Yuan’s necklace, they immediately began examining it just in case it was actually broken.

However, they were unable to find anything wrong with it even after looking through it twice, meaning it was working properly, and Yuan’s record would stand.

”Hm?”

Meanwhile, Yuan raised his eyebrows when he noticed that Mei Xiaoyun was nowhere to be seen.

’Did she leave? Or did she...?’ he thought inwardly.

”You can rest until the others are done,” one of the soldiers said to Yuan.

”Alright.”

A few hours later, Yuan smiled when he saw Mei Xiaoyun again.

Turns out she did not leave and had decided to participate in the recruitment as well.

Although her performance was nowhere near as spectacular as Yuan’s, she still managed to attract some attention.

”Who is that woman?” one of the high-ranking soldiers from the room asked.

”That’s number 111,781...Huh?”

”...”

”...”

”...No way!”

”What is it?”

”T-That woman is Mei Xiaoyun, General Mei’s daughter!”

”What?! General Mei has a daughter?!”

”You didn’t know?”

”She never talks about her family.”

”But from what I heard, they have a rocky relationship.”

”If that’s the case, there’s a good chance she won’t go to her mother’s division, so we can try to recruit her.”
