Chapter 2579: Military Recruitment(2)

”Welcome to this year’s military recruitment. I’m Sergeant Zao, in charge of overseeing this year’s recruitment. First and foremost, I’m delighted to see so many eager to join the military this year, but unfortunately, we have only so much space, and we want only the best. Therefore, we will be hosting several trials to weed out those not qualified.”

Without wasting any time, Sergeant Zao immediately went into the details of the first trial.

”For the first trial, all of you will be required to run two laps around the base, which is about a thousand miles per lap. During the run, not only do you have to wear weights, but you will have to avoid the traps that will constantly try to hit you. Being hit by a trap won’t automatically disqualify you as long as you’re not hit in any vital spot. That means if you’re hit in the head or heart even once, you’ll be disqualified.”

”Also, there won’t be any time limit, but there will be a limit to how many people can proceed to the next trial, so don’t try to take your time.”

Sergeant Zao pointed toward the east and continued, ”Before you begin the run, you will each grab a badge, a tracker, and your weights.”

”I don’t want to waste my breath since at least half of you will drop out, so I will speak more in the second trial. Good luck.”

After Sergeant Zao ended his sentence, several soldiers could be heard beckoning the participants to acquire their items.

”Come over here and get your gear! If you’re missing even one item before starting the run, you will automatically be disqualified!”

The sea of participants immediately moved toward the soldiers to grab their things before they ran.

”Don’t push! Your time r won’t start until you receive all items and pass the starting line!”

”Are you coming with me?” Yuan turned to ask Mei Xiaoyun.

”...”

”You can go ahead,” she said.

Yuan nodded and left without saying anything else.

Some time later, Yuan received three items: a badge with the number 42011, a paper-thin silver bracelet, and a black necklace.

Although the black necklace was weightless in his hands, the moment Yuan put it on, he felt his entire body grow several times heavier, as though he were suddenly carrying a mountain on his back.

Though it was still manageable.

Meanwhile, many participants dropped to the ground the moment they put on the necklace and were unable to get back up, which disqualified them on the spot.

However, even more people were disqualified before they put on the necklace, as the bracelet they wore was used to detect those who did not meet the bare minimum cultivation and credential requirements.

”Requirements not met. Disqualified.”

The bracelet would glow crimson red and even announce it aloud to those who did not qualify, publicly shaming them for trying to sneak past the requirements.

As for those who qualified, their bracelets would glow azure.

Once Yuan wore all three items and walked past the starting line, he started running at full speed, shooting forward like a bullet.

”What the hell is that speed?!”

His speed shocked not just the other participants but also the soldiers there.

”There’s no way he’s moving that fast while weighted! Is his necklace even functioning properly?!”

The participants cried out, suspecting that something was wrong with Yuan’s necklace, which allowed him to run at full speed.

At the same time, somewhere inside the military building, a large group of high-ranking soldiers were watching the recruitment on a big screen.

”Who is that kid passing everyone?” Someone suddenly asked.

”Number 42011. According to his bracelet, he’s at Ninth Level Fifth Ascension, his physique at Inexhaustible Heavenly Refinement.”

”What? Those stats are on par with some of our elite soldiers! Where the hell did he come from?”

”Give me a minute to look him up.”

However, even after several minutes, the soldier could not find any information on Yuan.

”How odd... I cannot find any information on him.”

”What? How is that possible?”

”Look. It says I don’t have enough credentials to see his information.”

”Huh?”

The people in the room shifted their gaze; their eyes widened with surprise.

”Who the hell is this bastard that blocks even your rank 7 credentials?”

”That would be my recruit,” a calm voice suddenly responded.

The people in the room turned to look behind them and saw Mei Feng entering.

”General Mei!” They stood up to greet her.

”Wait... what did you just say?” one of them asked.

”I said I found him, so keep your grubby hands off him. He’s mine.”

The room fell silent as the soldiers wore shocked looks.

”General Mei, don’t you think you’re being unreasonable?”

A voice responded as another individual entered the room right behind her.

Mei Feng turned around to see a middle-aged man wearing a rank identical to hers.

”General Gu,” she muttered. ”How am I being unreasonable?”

”Don’t you think having one monster is already enough? You should give the others a chance.”

”Hah!” Mei Feng sneered. ”That’s rich coming from you, who has the most elite soldiers under his command.”

General Gu shook his head and said, ”It’s not like I personally chose them. They were the ones who chose to stand under my banner of their own accord.”

”In any case, that one is mine. If any of you dare to touch him, I’ll fucking kill you.”

After saying that, Mei Feng walked out of the room.

”That was quite intensive even for General Mei...”

”I don’t think she reacted that way even for that woman...”

”Are you implying that this 42011 is even more monstrous than her last recruit?”

The soldiers trembled at the thought.

Meanwhile, General Gu took a seat at the table and narrowed his eyes at Yuan.

”Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. It’s still too early to tell how talented he is.”

”General Gu is right. Let’s continue watching for now.”
