Counterfeit Hero

Chapter 40: After Modification: Chapter 40 Emotions

Milan has been the professors’ favorite in the academy since she was a child; bullying Fatty in the laboratory is second nature to her. Fatty has always been the slave while she is the slave master. She just wanted to tease this Fatty who had disappeared without a word, but who knew Fatty was so afraid of death. When someone fired at him, he lost it and ended up pinning her down and spanking her.

Milan was momentarily stunned as Fatty’s hand landed on her sensitive area. She felt both embarrassed and angry, unable to say a word from the strange feeling induced by her first physical contact with a male.

Fatty, who was riding on Milan and had just slapped her a few times, suddenly came to his senses and realized things were getting worse. After a while, he felt like he shouldn’t let Milan get up, but also knew he couldn’t just sit on her forever. If he let her up now, the impulsive moment might cause unimaginable consequences. Fatty hesitated, feeling the increasingly heated and tantalizing sensation beneath him.

Their intimate contact made the atmosphere in the room gradually sizzle with awkward romance.

Finally, Milan struggled a bit, her face flushed red with rage and embarrassment. She shot Tian Xingjian a fierce glare and cursed, ”Fatty, haven’t you had enough? Get off me already!” The word ”Fatty” rolled off her tongue softly and sweetly. Realizing the peculiar emotion in her words, Milan bit her lip and buried her face in her arm, motionless.

Fatty, utterly helpless now, hurriedly rolled off her and scrambled to the door. Just as he touched the doorknob, Milan shouted from behind, ”Fatty, try running and see what happens!” Fatty let out a long wail, stopped, and began trembling, wishing he could just die and reincarnate.

Milan stood up, straightened her messy clothes with a reddened face, poked Fatty’s forehead with her finger, glared at him, and said, ”You’re useless! Bullying a woman? Just see how I’ll deal with you later. Now, let’s go see the professor.” She grabbed Fatty’s hand, dragged him out of the room, and headed toward Boswell’s lab. Milan’s thoughts were a mystery as her face turned crimson, her transparent ear roots flush with vibrant redness. Her small hand gripping Fatty’s trembled slightly under many watchful eyes. Initially, she maintained a calm facade, but gradually sped up, nearly running as they crossed the laboratory hall and burst into Boswell’s private lab.

The mad scientist Boswell was busy with an experiment when he heard the door open. He looked up at the two disciples with odd expressions for a while and asked, ”What were you two up to? Why are your faces so red?” Tian Xingjian almost went mad. This old man always hit the weakest spot. Milan stomped her foot in embarrassment, gave Fatty a fierce look, and ran off.

Watching Milan run off, the old man asked Fatty in confusion, ”Fatty, bullied by Milan, huh?”

Fatty wanted to tell him that he had bullied Milan, relishing the sensation from those few slaps. However, such suicidal words could not be said carelessly. Fatty awkwardly smiled, neither admitting nor denying.

The old man thought he had guessed right and chuckled, ”Milan is very kind-hearted. She missed you more than a hundred times during your absence. When you left without contact, she went to the front command center to inquire. After hearing the Special Soldiers were behind enemy lines, she was distraught for days. See, Milan has a good heart. It’s your luck to be bullied by her; she wouldn’t bully anyone else. Next time, go easy on her. You have thick skin anyway.”

Here we go, musing the old man completely lacked worldly sense. Advising like that? Fatty secretly complained. ”Thick skin is still skin, try getting shot by her yourself.”

The old man stopped his experiment and said to Fatty, ”Alright, tell me about the mecha’s performance. Are there any flaws?” In the lab, the most crucial issue was the gap between lab results and combat performance.

Before mass manufacturing, the data obtained from lab tests often looked perfect, but deficiencies were immediately apparent on the battlefield. Thus, the old man was very hopeful for Fatty, who was the first to apply biological dual state metal mechas in combat.

Indeed, Fatty had spent half a year in the lab, personally built the mecha, and had rich combat experience. His opinion was almost decisive.

Fatty plugged the data card copied from Logic’s mecha computer into the reader while reporting, ”The simulated external armor is significantly useful but not sturdy enough. For true experts, this armor has flaws. Speed-wise, I found two Imperial mechas comparable to Logic’s speed. This area needs improvement; in close combat, speed is crucial.”

The computer screen began displaying various mecha data.

Fatty highlighted the defense data and said, ”These numbers indicate the damage Logic sustained. The energy shield and the external armor, combined with the biological dual state metal six times harder than superhard alloy, can withstand severe damage from regular long-range attacks. However, the data reveals that the mecha can only endure five direct hits from twice the power of a standard Energy Cannon before the defense system collapses. Though the mecha’s mounted Energy Cannon can’t reach such firepower now, it can’t be ruled out in the future. I noticed the Empire’s Vajra mecha is equipped with oversized caliber Energy Cannons. Besides, enemy close combat weapons are potent, especially Vajra’s ion light saber. I estimate the biological dual state metal can withstand up to two hits in the same spot.”

Boswell studied the mecha data carefully and nodded, saying, ”These are very valuable references. They brought back a Vajra, said it was you who did it?”

Fatty nodded and smiled, ”Yes, but it’s mostly dismantled. The scattered parts still have research value.”

Boswell’s peculiar temper flared up, expressionless he said, ”I thought you’d claim that except for your deceptive external armor, my biological dual state metal mecha is worthless. Turns out it can help you take down an enemy advanced mecha.”

Fatty knew the old man had an abnormal ego and quickly smiled apologetically, ”That’s not what I meant. Your biological dual state metal is invincible in the universe. It’s entirely my lack of skill.”

”Speaking of, the strength of your mecha is the best in the world. No wonder it’s been used for heavy-duty work despite being outdated for decades. Your and the master’s early structural studies were ahead of their time by decades. Even hundreds of years from now, this structure remains the best in human-shaped mechas.”

Pleased by Fatty’s flattery, Boswell’s expression softened and he waved Fatty away, saying, ”Go to Milan’s lab; several research projects relate to your findings. Check them out, and I’ll further analyze this data.”

Summoned to Milan’s lab door, Tian Xingjian felt uneasy. At the door, Boswell said, ”I heard you were assigned as an advisor to the Combat Department. Since you’re here, visit the lab often. I’ll speak to the front command.”

Fatty eagerly agreed, being a mechanical repair soldier, he was interested in these things. Other skills were merely life-saving tricks he reluctantly learned.

Approaching Milan’s lab door with hesitation, a familiar researcher grabbed him mysteriously, asking, ”Fatty, heard you achieved heroic deeds? What’s the story? Share it with us.”

Tian Xingjian was startled and thought, ”Damn, who would want to be a damned hero. It could get me sent back to the front lines. I just arrived and already rumors are flying?”

He hurriedly shook his head and hands, firmly denying, ”Look at my build, you know me. How could I be a hero?”

With a face of disbelief, he asked, ”What have you heard?”
