Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 999: Chapter 418: Purification of the Surface

Wu Chang went to the Yanjing Management Bureau headquarters again, and compared to two days ago, the atmosphere there had grown much heavier.

Extraordinary disasters were breaking out frequently in reality, and with the World Dungeon approaching, everyone in the Bureau was running themselves ragged.

This time, the Four Major Organizations were under far more pressure than ordinary organizations.

From the perspective of ordinary Extraordinary organizations, whether the World Dungeon was cleared or not at most decided how big a slice of the cake they could get in the world after the upheaval.

At worst it was just a matter of more or less; as long as their foundations were there, they’d get a seat at the table eventually.

But for the Four Major Organizations, especially the Order Sect of the Desolate Realm, the outcome of this World Dungeon was tied to their overall survival.

If the Bright Society succeeded and the Realm of Reason and Desolate Realm were connected, the Order Sect would have no power to resist; the Evolution Sect and the Bright Society would completely take control of the Abyssal Game.

If they could stop the Bright Society’s plot and let the Order Sect keep hold of reality and the Desolate Realm, secure their foundation, then they could still barely sit down and negotiate terms with the Bright Society and the Evolution Sect; there would still be room to maneuver.

Under this kind of pressure, everyone in the Bureau was wound as tight as a bowstring.

Luckily the World Dungeon would start in just four days. If the Four Major Organizations had been stuck in this state ever since the one-hundred-day countdown started, by the time the World Dungeon began, before the Bright Society even made a move, their Will Attributes would already be in serious trouble.

Wu Chang entered the Bureau’s secret conference room and saw Hou Jingchuan and a group of members from the Four Major Organizations.

Handing over the Faith Virus was one of the most important matters at the moment; the three organizations besides the Bureau had all sent representatives, and on the Bureau’s side, besides Hou Jingchuan, Shi Ning and Cold Mountain were also present.

Hou Jingchuan’s face was full of exhaustion; the recent messes in reality clearly had him thoroughly worn down.

He motioned for Wu Chang to sit and said with a smile:

”Being able to see you show up on time is one of the very few good pieces of news I’ve heard recently.”

Wu Chang asked, ”Things are bad lately?”

He wasn’t sure about other places, but over in Wanghai City he’d been living very comfortably.

Hou Jingchuan gave a bitter smile, and the representatives of the other three organizations all tacitly showed the same expression.

”Not bad—disastrous.”

”In just these two days, within the Four Major Organizations’ jurisdictions, seven cities have already been assimilated by Erosion Dungeons and vanished completely from Blue Star; who knows how many more that makes worldwide.”

”Before the World Dungeon begins, we estimate that more than twelve A-Level dungeons will go out of control. With people so unsettled, any of these dungeons could lose control at any moment—in the next second, even—and start eroding reality.”

”Getting all the residents of those twelve cities evacuated before their dungeons lose control is a huge project. And if we have to factor in relocating the disaster victims afterward and rebuilding the cities...”

Hou Jingchuan didn’t finish that sentence, but it was easy enough to hear how troublesome it would be.

If you gave Hou Jingchuan the chance to complain about the current situation to his heart’s content, he’d probably be able to gripe straight until the World Dungeon started.

Wu Chang clicked his tongue and said, ”That really does sound rough.”

Those few words were about the limit of what he was willing to offer; as for helping clear Erosion Dungeons, he had no such plans.

The Players of the Four Major Organizations were all conserving their strength to prepare for the World Dungeon, letting Erosion Dungeons run rampant during this period. He wasn’t their babysitter, and he sure wasn’t their mom—why would he show up to clean up their mess?

More importantly, once an Erosion Dungeon entered reality, it had, in a sense, detached from the Abyssal Game, and clearing it no longer resulted in any dungeon settlement.

His Level was already Full Level; clearing an out-of-control dungeon wouldn’t even increase his experience. The reward would only be a pitiful few Energy Points—pure manual labor.

Even if he wanted to help clear a few out-of-control dungeons, he couldn’t find a reason convincing enough for himself.

All he could do was sigh that the greater the Ability, the greater the responsibility. Fortunately his Ability was small enough that he only needed to be responsible for Erin’s Divine Kingdom.

Wu Chang didn’t bring this up on his own, and Hou Jingchuan and the others were sensible enough not to ask.

They exchanged a few pleasantries and then moved on to business.

First up was the transfer of the Faith Virus.

Hou Jingchuan took out a specially made metal box from his personal storage space. He and the representatives of the other three organizations each drew a key, inserted them into the box at the same time, and only then did the seals on the box’s restraints open.

Hou Jingchuan carefully pushed the box over to Wu Chang. Wu Chang opened the lid and saw two Items lying inside.

One of them looked, on the outside, like an irregular sphere pieced together from shattered crystals, composed of four colors and about the size of an adult’s fist.

If you examined the cracks in the crystal closely, you’d find they weren’t actually fractures, but biological tissue like blood vessels.

They moved like living things, gently wriggling, dragging the broken crystal surface along with them, shifting its shape.

He toyed with the Faith Virus in his hand and switched his view to the temporary administrator perspective, and saw that on every crystal shard on the Faith Virus’s surface, a strange protrusion had grown, resembling the spike proteins on the surface of a virus.

No wonder the Faith Virus was called a virus—its appearance had literally been designed after one.

”Item Name: Faith Virus”

”Item Type: Special”

”Item Description: An Item containing temporary administrative authority over the Desolate Realm. Releasing the Faith Virus within it can activate the Plane’s immunity, mark all Abilities within the Plane that do not belong to the Desolate Realm, and trigger the Abyss Plane’s suppressive power to punish targets that commit violations.”

”Note: Purify the Abyssal Game environment and guard the fairness of dungeon clearing.”
