Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 965: Chapter 406: Extraordinary Attrition (3)

When he returned to reality, He Yun had just prepared everything.

”Where are you planning to go during this time? Will you return to Sirena?” Han’er asked.

Wu Chang replied, ”We don’t plan to go anywhere else, we’ll stay in Sirena.”

Han’er smiled with delight and asked, ”In that case, let me help you arrange a place to stay.”

Wu Chang shrugged and said, ”As long as you don’t place us in the Royal Tomb, anywhere is fine.”

As a Space Lord, with the Inner World’s high-efficient space utilization, even a space the size of a bathroom could be expanded into a two-bedroom apartment, so he wasn’t picky about where to stay.

Being able to see Wu Chang and Erin in the last moments of life made Han’er very happy.

He leaned on his cane and walked outside, saying:

”I live not far from here, follow me.”

”Wait a moment.” Erin stopped Han’er and enveloped him with Light Healing Magic.

Han’er only felt a warm flow within him, and his previously weak left leg suddenly regained its strength.

He tried stepping on the ground, jumped slightly on the spot, and then excitedly threw away the cane.

”Praise you, great Lady of God, you’ve allowed me to regain the body of my youth.”

”This is just a minor ailment; no need to worry about it.”

Erin’s smile was a bit forced because she knew she could only heal Han’er’s body, but she couldn’t slow down the loss of his life force.

Han’er saw through Erin’s thoughts and smiled, saying:

”What you shouldn’t worry about is what you said earlier. I remember you mentioning that Light Magic can heal injuries but cannot prolong a person’s lifespan.”

Regarding life and death, Han’er was quite indifferent.

”I was worried I was moving too slowly, delaying your journey, and wanted to find you a reliable guide. Now that I’ve regained my youth, I can show you around Sirena.”

With Han’er leading, Wu Chang and Erin wandered through the Sirena City District at night,

This Holy City of Mikel Kingdom was completely different from their impression.

During the Midnight Cemetery era, this was undeniably the Holy Land of Mikel Kingdom, with a vast number of pilgrims and dying people visiting every year, hoping to witness the occurrence of miracles.

The large flow of people naturally spurred the city’s development.

In Wu Chang’s memory, the city district of Sirena should have been filled with majestic and colorful cathedrals, where pilgrims and devout believers were everywhere, day and night.

But thirty years later, the entire city became dilapidated, with buildings inside falling into disrepair, and the paint on the surface of the cathedrals faded and peeling.

Many small cathedrals were covered with vines, and it was difficult to see pilgrims on the streets.

Wu Chang asked in confusion:

”What happened here, did a war break out when we were not around?”

Han’er shook his head and said:

”There hasn’t been a war here; it’s just that after you left, no miracles happened again.”

Han’er looked at the decaying city without regret or lament, but rather casually explained the decline of Sirena to Wu Chang and Erin.

At the end of the Midnight Cemetery, the Blood Moon Eternal Life miracle resurrected countless undead, who then overran Sirena.

A large number of churches and believers perished in that chaos; after Fire Master died, the Soul Light Cathedral soon collapsed, and before Wu Chang and Erin left, they shattered the First Miracle before countless believers.

Almost overnight, the faith in Mikel Kingdom crumbled.

Fortunately, Erin’s appearance led many believers to turn to believe in her existence. The Mikel royal family’s yearning for miracles also helped the believers who witnessed that night to build a church for Erin.

The cathedral that Wu Chang and Erin appeared in was a product of that event.

But the problem was, the source of miracles in Mikel Kingdom, the great miracle on the moon, had already been shattered by Erin.

And Erin and Wu Chang hadn’t returned to Sirena for thirty years, leading to a period where no miracles appeared in Sirena, let alone within the borders of Mikel Kingdom.

The dying who came to Sirena could no longer relieve their ailments; those praying for the resurrection of loved ones knelt before Erin’s statue, unable to exhibit resurrection miracles like the Soul Light Church.

Without miracles, the Holy City could no longer be called a Holy City.

The believers of Mikel Kingdom were the most devout; they were willing to give up everything for miracles, even willing to risk death to make the pilgrimage years ago.

Yet, the believers of Mikel Kingdom were the most pragmatic; once they found their faith unable to invoke miracles, while the neighboring denomination could, they would immediately devoutly join the neighboring denomination.

Their devotion was to miracles, not to any specific god, much less to any specific denomination.

Wu Chang had witnessed this reality multiple times during the Midnight Cemetery Dungeon.

It was precisely this practicality that, in the tenth year without miracles, led the entire Mikel Kingdom to abandon the Holy City.

Believers no longer came to pilgrimage, the seriously ill no longer longed to be buried in the Royal Tomb, and even the new King of Mikel Kingdom began to suspect whether the miraculous stories recorded were just tales made up by previous generations.

Under these circumstances, the Midnight Cemetery developed a rare phenomenon.

Extraordinary shrinkage.

People’s doubt of miracles triggered their skepticism of the extraordinary.

Under the influence of the First Law of Mysticism, the more people doubted, the thinner the Extraordinary Power became, and even the transcendents who once had abilities found their Extraordinary Power withering inside them.

The withering of the Extraordinary Power inside the transcendent led to their inability to display the performances recorded in the past, further stirring skepticism about the extraordinary among people.

In this vicious cycle, in just thirty years, the Extraordinary Power dwindled almost to extinction.

The greatest casualty of the disappearance of Extraordinary Power was still Sirena.

Previously, Sirena was merely abandoned, nearly forgotten by people.

In many places, the Royal Tomb is even used to refer to the Holy City Sirena instead.

After listening to Han’er’s account, Wu Chang and Erin exchanged glances, both showing signs of surprise in their eyes.

Whether their experiences or their understanding of the Extraordinary Power, they all led them to one common understanding.

That is, once the extraordinary appears, it only rises and falls, never extinguishing.

Furthermore, once the Extraordinary Power flourishes, without external influence, its scope will only expand.

Especially in a plane like the Midnight Cemetery Plane, after people witnessed large-scale extraordinary events, the development of transcendents should have exploded in a short time.

For example, in the Steam Phantom Dungeon, when Olivia proposed the Extraordinary Steam Engine, the appearance of transcendents erupted like mushrooms after the rain, even giving birth to the Plane Son.

Another example is in the Peaceful Town Dungeon; after the Lost Continent appeared, even if Erin and Wu Chang did nothing, the research on Extraordinary Power in Ogre Kingdom still advanced by leaps and bounds.

The extraordinary shrinkage in Sirena was something neither of them had ever heard of.

No wonder Han’er’s leg injury, needing just an E-Level Light Magic for healing, hadn’t been healed all along.

If it was extraordinary shrinkage, then everything made sense.

Looking at the dilapidated Sirena, a bold idea suddenly popped into Wu Chang’s mind.

The source of Extraordinary Power actually came from Abyss invasion, meaning the higher the degree of a plane’s invasion by Abyss, and the stronger its binding with Abyss, the stronger the Extraordinary Power within that plane would be.

When the Extraordinary Power became strong enough, it would trigger a Plane Ascension, entering deeper into the Abyss.

In that case, if the Extraordinary Power within a plane were entirely cut off, would the plane disconnect from the Abyss?
