Chapter 729, Breaking One’s Word

Translator: Silavin

The gathering point was typically located in areas where the Evil Energy was at its thinnest. Under normal circumstances, there would be no encounters with attacks from Demonic Beasts.

However, the current situation was clearly triggered by that person’s anguished scream not long ago.

In an instant, those Demonic Beasts that had lost all reason came charging toward the gathering point.

*Clang! Clang! Clang!*

Tremendous force crashed against the metal walls surrounding the gathering point, causing them to shake violently. Many sections visibly caved inward.

One could see just how powerful these impacts were!

It should be noted that these metal walls had obviously been reinforced; otherwise, how could this place possibly serve as a gathering point?

“What are you all standing around for? Waiting for these Demonic Beasts to break through the walls and tear you to pieces!?” A Mid Stage Martial Emperor from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty roared in fury. Standing atop the iron wall, he drew out a great sabre. With an explosive shout, he bellowed, “Wave Parting Slash!”

*Swish!*

A deep blue Yuan Energy, like the colour of the ocean, manifested on his great sabre. As he brought it down, startling waves surged forth, directly crushing over a dozen Demonic Beasts in a straight line.

A deep ravine remained on the ground, along with a thick scent of blood.

Therefore, this strike of tremendous power not only failed to frighten off those Demonic Beasts, but instead further provoked their savage nature. One after another, they recklessly crashed into the iron walls.

However, with this expert from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty taking the lead, everyone else reacted. Powerful experts from all quarters struck out in unison, and immediately, a chorus of agonised howls rang out.

Those who could come here were naturally not weak. The lowest cultivation level present was a Peak Stage Martial King.

These Demonic Beasts, on the other hand, were generally only at the Mid Stage to Late Stage Martial King Realm. Naturally, it was a one-sided slaughter.

Many people began to cheer. Some of the bolder ones even jumped out to collect the cores dropped by the Demonic Beasts.

“A bunch of fools!” Liu Yun’s face was iron-blue at this moment.

Even he, a greenhouse flower that had not experienced the storms of the world, understood just how dangerous their situation was right now. Yet these people were actually still naive to this extent.

At this moment, quite a few Demonic Beasts had indeed been slain.

However, the scent of blood here had grown even thicker. Moreover, the commotion from earlier could probably be heard within a radius of several dozen kilometres.

“We cannot stay here any longer!” Qin Yichen also sighed. He swept his gaze slightly and discovered that the people from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty had already retreated to the back of the crowd. Obviously, they were planning to evacuate from this place.

Yet these people were busy celebrating, completely unaware that they had already been abandoned.

*Roar!*

Just at this moment, suddenly, a great roar came from the distant dense forest, overwhelming all other sounds.

“A Martial Emperor Realm Demonic Beast!” Qin Yichen struggled to spit out these few words.

The disturbance here earlier had truly been too great. It would be difficult not to alarm these Martial Emperor Realm Demonic Beasts.

*Roar!*

*Awoo~*

Following this, roars came from all directions, causing the gathering point to fall into an eerie silence once more.

“Quick, quickly, retreat back!”

Those who had been below, killing to their hearts’ content and even chasing after distant Demonic Beasts, immediately sensed something amiss. One by one, they fled rapidly toward the gathering point.

*Whoosh!*

As a violent wind swept out from the dense forest, a powerful expert was caught up in it.

When that violent wind dissipated, everyone finally saw a pitch-black leopard standing there. Its ferocious maw was covered in fresh blood. That powerful expert had already been bitten in half at the waist, with most of his internal organs devoured.

This scene caused many to feel chills throughout their bodies, their hair standing on end.

Clearly, this was a Martial Emperor Realm Demonic Beast!

*Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!*

Following this, it moved again with extreme speed, transforming into a violent wind. In the blink of an eye, three or four more people died in the leopard’s jaws.

Those who had died were not some nameless nobodies.

They were all Heaven’s Chosen from various Imperial Dynasties. Each person bore countless achievements, yet they had fallen beneath the leopard’s fangs.

Long Qingyao watched with a sinking heart, subconsciously standing behind Qin Yichen, not daring to look at the scene below any longer.

*Screech!*

Just as everyone’s attention was still focused on the ground, suddenly, a bird’s cry rang out. A massive shadow swept down from the sky. Everyone only vaguely saw a pair of talons gleaming with a metallic lustre flash by.

On the metal wall, two figures were flung away, and a rain of blood sprinkled down.

*Thud!*

*Thud!*

With two dull impacts, those two figures landed within the gathering point’s boundary.

One could see that the chests of both people were completely hollow, their hearts nowhere to be found.

“A Heart-Devouring Demonic Dove!” Liu Yun blurted out, his face growing another shade paler.

He very clearly remembered that when the Elders had been explaining things to him, they had especially mentioned the Heart-Devouring Demonic Dove.

This Demonic Beast specialised in tearing out hearts to eat. Moreover, it was an avian Demonic Beast that occupied the sky. Especially at night, if it launched a sneak attack, most would be completely unable to guard against it.

Many powerful experts participating in the Imperial Dynasties Assembly had been attacked in their sleep, dying without even knowing how they died.

Among those two figures, one had been a Martial Emperor!

This further proved that this Heart-Devouring Demonic Dove possessed Martial Emperor Realm strength.

In a short time, the gathering point erupted in chaos. Many people jumped down from the walls, not daring to remain standing on them any longer.

Because doing so would make them even more likely to become targets of the Heart-Devouring Demonic Dove.

“Get down!” Qin Yichen immediately made the decision. Together with Liu Yun and Long Qingyao, he jumped down from the iron wall.

“Where are those from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty?” He swept his gaze around the surroundings, searching for the whereabouts of those few people from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty. However, he discovered that there was no longer any trace of them at the stone platform.

Obviously, the disturbance here would only grow larger and larger.

Perhaps the Demonic Beasts attacking this time could still be held back, but the movements and noise here would undoubtedly attract even more Demonic Beasts…

“Where did they go?” Not seeing those few people from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty, Liu Yun asked Qin Yichen.

After all, those people from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty were the only ones here whose cultivation had reached the Mid Stage Martial Emperor Realm. With them present, things would naturally be a bit safer.

“They have already left!” Looking at the pitch-black night sky, Qin Yichen’s expression was as dark as water.

Although Xia Lieyang had accepted his Pills, clearly he was a petty person who broke his word!

However, Qin Yichen had probably already guessed that under these circumstances, even if Xia Lieyang had called for him to come along, he would not dare to travel the same path as them.

The disparity in strength was too great. The possibility of being killed and robbed on the road was very high.

“How despicable!” Although Liu Yun felt somewhat indignant, he was helpless about it.

Qin Yichen’s brows furrowed.

Although he also had the heart to lead Long Qingyao and Liu Yun in breaking through the encirclement, under this dark night, they did not possess the same level of self-preservation capability as that group from the Sky Elephant Imperial Dynasty.

Otherwise, they would not have come to this gathering point in the first place.

At present, Qin Yichen turned his gaze toward those panicked people who had no clear direction.
