Yandere Stream

Kai didn’t move.

His flashlight remained fixed on the corner of the ceiling where he’d seen the tiny green light blink.

Nothing.

Just white paint.

A smoke detector.

The shadow where the wall met the ceiling.

His eyes searched every inch of the corner, lingering there far longer than they probably should have. The longer he stared, the more ordinary it looked.

Had he imagined it?

God, he wanted to believe that.

He wanted to convince himself exhaustion had finally caught up with him. That after days without proper sleep, countless messages from strangers, hidden phones, impossible videos, and enough paranoia to fill an entire psychology textbook, his brain had simply misfired.

Then his own phone buzzed.

A notification from stream moderation slid across the screen.

Clips containing your apartment ceiling have exceeded 3.2 million views.

Kai blinked.

”...Seriously?”

Out of everything happening tonight...

People were clipping his ceiling.

Of course they were.

The internet remained stubbornly committed to being the internet.

”Luna.”

”I’m here.”

”I think I saw a light.”

”I know.”

”It was near the ceiling.”

For several seconds, Luna didn’t answer. Instead, Kai heard the faint, rhythmic tapping of keys through her microphone.

She was typing.

Searching.

Looking through something.

The silence stretched just long enough for his imagination to fill in the blanks.

He pictured her sitting in another apartment somewhere, illuminated only by the pale glow of a monitor. Headphones on. Hair falling into her face while she leaned toward the screen, searching for answers as quickly as he was searching his own ceiling.

It struck him, not for the first time, that he had absolutely no idea what she looked like.

He knew her voice.

He knew the cadence of her laughter.

He knew when she hesitated before answering difficult questions.

He even knew the faint clicking of her keyboard.

But her face?

Nothing.

His mind refused to form one.

”Can you describe it?” she asked at last.

”It was tiny.”

”What color?”

”Green.”

Another pause.

”Did it blink?”

”...Once.”

The typing stopped.

”Okay.”

Kai waited.

Several seconds passed.

”Okay what?”

”I don’t know what it is.”

He stared toward the ceiling.

”...You paused like you did.”

”I paused because I was hoping I would.”

Despite everything pressing against his chest, a small smile escaped him.

”You’re not helping your mysterious reputation.”

”I’ve accepted that I have one.”

The simple honesty of her answer earned a quiet laugh.

It was ridiculous.

Only hours ago, Luna had been another username buried among thousands of Discord messages.

Now...

The sound of her voice had become one of the few things keeping him from completely unraveling.

His attention drifted back toward the hidden phone beneath the hallway table.

The photograph was still displayed on its cracked screen.

His apartment.

His desk.

His couch.

Everything captured from above.

It wasn’t the picture itself that unsettled him.

It was the angle.

It wasn’t impossible.

That was the problem.

It was inconveniently possible.

Someone could have used a ladder.

Someone could have hidden an incredibly small camera.

Someone could have...

His thoughts stopped mid-sentence.

”Kai?”

”...There are maintenance workers in this building all the time.”

”So?”

”They’ve been inside my apartment before.”

The realization settled over him like ice water.

Apartment management.

Internet installation.

Smoke detector inspections.

Air conditioner repairs.

Over the last year, strangers had stepped into his home more times than he could remember.

He’d never questioned it.

Why would he?

Until tonight.

A cold heaviness settled in his stomach.

The apartment no longer felt like his home.

It felt...

Borrowed.

Chat, unsurprisingly, had already reached the same conclusion.

BreadCrumbsIRL:

BRO CHECK THE SMOKE DETECTOR

LocalCryptid:

EVERY HORROR MOVIE STARTS WITH ”ITS PROBABLY NOTHING”

SoupDealer42:

I’M NEVER RENTING AGAIN

Kai rubbed both hands down his face.

”You guys are making me paranoid.”

GoblinLawyer:

WE’RE PAST PARANOID

”They’re not entirely wrong.”

Luna’s voice remained calm and gentle.

”I know.”

”I also don’t think you should start tearing your apartment apart tonight.”

”...Also fair.”

Another notification slid across his screen.

This time it came from the streaming dashboard.

Current Viewers: 147,862

Kai blinked.

”...Why are there more people?”

His confusion sounded genuine even to himself.

”They’re sharing the stream.”

Luna sounded almost...

Sad.

”The stranger tonight gets...”

She paused, searching for the right word.

”...bigger.”

Kai closed his eyes.

That description fit far too well.

Every strange event became another clip.

Another theory.

Another viral post.

Another hashtag.

His fear had become entertainment.

He’d spent years chasing exactly this.

Bigger numbers.

Longer watch times.

More subscribers.

Trending clips.

Now he’d finally reached the audience he’d always dreamed about...

And he would have traded every single viewer for one ordinary night.

His phone buzzed again.

Unknown number.

You’re looking in the wrong corner.

His eyebrows knitted together.

Before he could process it, another message arrived.

Different number.

Ignore them.

Then another.

Behind the bookshelf.

A fourth appeared almost immediately afterward.

They’re lying.

Kai let out a sigh so deep it almost hurt.

”I have too many enemies.”

Luna corrected him quietly.

”I don’t think they’re all enemies.”

He looked down at the flood of messages.

”You think some of them are trying to help?”

She was quiet for a moment.

”I think...”

Another pause.

”...they all believe they are.”

The apartment fell silent.

Not because her answer was comforting.

Because it felt true.

Everyone believed they were helping.

The stalkers.

Derek.

The viewers.

The police.

Even Luna.

Every person tugging at his life thought they were protecting him.

The problem was...

None of them agreed on what protection actually looked like.

A soft Discord notification interrupted his thoughts.

Private message.

Not from Luna.

The account had a profile picture this time.

A blurry photograph of rain sliding down a window.

The username was unfamiliar.

StayOffline

The message contained only a single sentence.

You missed something when you came home.

Kai stared at it.

His fingers hovered over the keyboard.

He knew he shouldn’t reply.

Tonight alone had taught him that lesson more times than he cared to count.

So why...

Why was it suddenly so difficult?

Because they knew things.

Because every ignored message refused to leave the back of his mind.

Because uncertainty had become worse than bad news.

”Kai.”

Luna’s voice gently cut through his thoughts.

”Don’t answer.”

”I wasn’t going to.”

”...You were thinking about it.”

A tired smile crossed his face.

”Am I that obvious?”

”To me?”

She let out a slow breath.

”...Usually.”

His chest tightened again.

There it was.

That dangerous feeling.

The quiet voice in the back of his mind insisting that she understood him better than anyone else ever had.

Before he could decide whether that thought frightened him or comforted him...

The hidden phone beneath the hallway table lit up once more.

The photograph disappeared.

In its place appeared a timer.

00:59

It immediately began counting down.

00:58

00:57

00:56...

Kai felt every muscle in his body tense.

He looked from the glowing timer to Luna’s name in Discord.

His voice came out quieter than he intended.

”What happens when it reaches zero?”

For the first time all night...

Luna didn’t have an answer.
