Yandere Stream

For several long seconds, nobody spoke.

Kai sat frozen at his desk, staring at the hallway camera feed displayed on his monitor. The grainy image showed a woman standing motionless at the far end of the seventh-floor corridor. She wasn’t approaching. She wasn’t leaving.

She was simply watching.

The low-quality camera turned her into a silhouette. Dark clothes. Long hair. No visible face.

Just a person standing under flickering emergency lights at nearly three in the morning.

The unsettling part wasn’t what she was doing.

It was how still she was.

People moved.

Even when standing still, people shifted their weight, checked their phones, scratched their faces, looked around.

This woman didn’t.

The hallway camera timestamp continued counting upward.

She remained perfectly motionless.

Then Luna whispered:

”...How did she find me?”

Kai’s eyes snapped away from the camera.

”What?”

The question escaped before he could stop it.

In all the chaos, he’d never heard Luna sound like that.

Not scared.

Not worried.

Surprised.

Real surprise.

The kind that slipped out before someone could hide it.

The silence that followed felt enormous.

One hundred and thirty-seven thousand viewers were still watching, yet the apartment somehow felt quieter than ever.

Finally Luna spoke.

”I...”

She stopped.

For the first time since they’d met, she seemed unsure of what to say.

Kai stared at Discord.

”Luna.”

A pause.

Then:

”I don’t know who that is.”

The answer should have been reassuring.

Instead it raised about thirty new questions.

Because she hadn’t answered the important part.

How did she find me?

Not:

Who is she?

Not:

Why is she here?

How did she find me?

His pulse quickened.

The chat was already catching on.

CouchGoblinPrime:

WAIT

TaxFraudEnjoyer:

SHE SAID FIND HER

ExpiredMilkDealer:

CHAT IM NOT LIKING THE IMPLICATIONS

Kai wasn’t either.

The woman on the camera feed finally moved.

Only slightly.

A tilt of her head.

A tiny motion.

Yet it immediately made Kai’s skin crawl.

The hallway lights flickered.

For a brief second the image darkened.

When the picture stabilized again—

the woman was gone.

Kai shot upright.

”What?”

The camera showed an empty hallway.

Nobody there.

No movement.

No explanation.

Just empty carpet stretching toward the elevator.

The chat erupted.

MicrowaveBandit:

WHERE DID SHE GO

DumpsterWizard:

NOPE

CertifiedFailure:

I AM LOSING TRUST IN REALITY

Kai refreshed the feed.

Nothing.

Still empty.

His stomach tightened.

Because there were only two possible explanations.

Either she had walked away during the brief camera flicker...

Or she had moved somewhere the camera couldn’t see.

Neither option made him feel better.

His phone buzzed.

Unknown number.

Another text.

At this point his notifications felt less like communication and more like a supernatural curse.

He opened it.

The message contained a screenshot.

The same hallway camera.

The same woman.

But unlike his feed, this image wasn’t from moments ago.

The timestamp was older.

Twenty-three minutes older.

The woman had been standing there much longer than he’d realized.

Underneath the screenshot were four words.

she arrived before you noticed

Kai stared.

A chill crawled down his spine.

Someone had access to footage he didn’t.

Someone was watching the same cameras.

Maybe more.

His thoughts were interrupted by a donation alert.

The room flashed.

RealDerekVoss donated $150,000

Police are in the building. Stay where you are.

Relief crashed into Kai so hard he almost laughed.

Actual relief.

The first he’d felt all night.

Someone was coming.

Real people.

Not internet detectives.

Not anonymous texts.

Not mysterious Discord accounts.

Actual human beings.

The realization nearly made him emotional.

Which was embarrassing.

He blamed sleep deprivation.

And adrenaline.

And definitely not the fact he’d been slowly losing his mind for the last several hours.

”Kai.”

Luna’s voice softened.

”You okay?”

The question hit harder than it should have.

He wasn’t okay.

Not remotely.

His apartment had become a horror movie directed by social media.

His front door had unlocked itself.

Someone had apparently been inside his home.

Random strangers knew where he lived.

A mysterious woman was appearing on hallway cameras.

And somehow the thing that finally made his chest tighten was Luna asking if he was okay.

His laugh sounded exhausted.

”I think my standards for okay have changed.”

A tiny smile entered her voice.

”I noticed.”

The warmth of that response settled somewhere dangerous inside him.

That was becoming a recurring problem.

Every time Luna spoke, the apartment felt less hostile.

Less empty.

Safer.

And Kai was becoming increasingly aware that safety and Luna were starting to occupy the same space in his head.

That realization should have been a red flag.

Instead it felt comforting.

Which was probably an even bigger red flag.

The hallway camera refreshed again.

This time something new appeared.

Two uniformed officers stepped into frame.

The chat instantly exploded.

Messages flooded faster than Kai could read.

For the first time all night, people seemed relieved.

The officers moved carefully down the corridor, checking apartment numbers as they approached.

One of them spoke into a radio.

The other pointed toward Kai’s door.

Kai exhaled.

Actually exhaled.

His shoulders relaxed for the first time in hours.

Then the feed froze.

The image locked in place.

The officers stopped moving.

The timestamp stopped counting.

Everything froze.

Kai frowned.

”What?”

The screen glitched.

Static rolled across the image.

The officers vanished.

The hallway returned.

Empty.

Completely empty.

The camera disconnected.

A red error message appeared.

CONNECTION LOST

The relief vanished instantly.

His phone buzzed again.

Unknown number.

The message arrived before he could think.

they’re on the wrong floor

Kai’s blood ran cold.

Then another text appeared.

Different number.

don’t listen to that

A third followed immediately.

he wants you scared

The familiar chaos returned.

Different numbers.

Different warnings.

Different agendas.

It felt like half the internet had decided to participate in whatever nightmare was unfolding around him.

A sharp sound suddenly echoed from the apartment hallway.

Not the building hallway.

Inside.

Inside his apartment.

Kai froze.

So did Luna.

The noise had come from deeper in the unit.

Near the bedroom.

A door closing.

Slowly.

Quietly.

The sound wasn’t loud enough to be dramatic.

It was worse than that.

It sounded ordinary.

Like somebody casually shutting a door in their own home.

The apartment became deathly silent.

Kai stared at the dark corridor leading toward the bedroom.

His pulse hammered against his ribs.

Every rational thought in his head started screaming.

Police.

Leave.

Run.

Do something.

Yet his body remained rooted in place.

Because another realization had just hit him.

The bedroom door had been open earlier.

He remembered it now.

Not fully open.

Just slightly.

Enough to notice.

Enough to remember.

And now—

it wasn’t.

”Kai.”

Luna’s voice sounded very careful.

Very quiet.

”Don’t go check.”

His eyes never left the hallway.

”I wasn’t planning to.”

It was a lie.

A terrible one.

Because curiosity was already winning.

The same curiosity that had kept the stream running.

The same curiosity that had answered unknown messages.

The same curiosity that had kept him talking to Luna.

Some people were self-destructive.

Kai preferred to think of himself as aggressively interested.

The distinction probably wouldn’t hold up in court.

The chat was moving so quickly it blurred together.

Thousands of people begging him not to investigate.

Thousands more demanding that he look.

The internet had discovered, once again, that danger was much more entertaining when it belonged to someone else.

Then the bedroom door opened.

Not quickly.

Not violently.

Just a slow, deliberate creak.

The dark corridor seemed to stretch forever.

The apartment lights didn’t reach that far.

Kai couldn’t see inside.

He couldn’t see who was there.

He couldn’t see anything at all.

Yet someone—

or something—

had just opened that door.

And this time there was no question.

No reflection.

No blurry camera footage.

No maybe.

No uncertainty.

The door had moved.

Right in front of him.

Then a phone screen lit up inside the darkness.

A small rectangle of pale blue light appeared beyond the bedroom doorway.

Someone was holding it.

And before Kai could react—

his own phone began ringing.

The caller ID displayed a single name.

Luna.
