Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 1124, Leave Yei Xiu’s Fate to the Situ Family

Translator: Silavin

With this, finding the Sacred Jiang Family no longer seemed like an especially formidable task.

A fifty kilometre radius, though it sounded like a large area, was something that a High Level Player of Lu Fan’s calibre could sweep through with ease in moments.

In the time that followed, Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge posed a number of further questions regarding the Sacred Jiang Family and the Slaughter Ancient God. Yei Xiu answered each one without reservation, holding nothing back.

That said, although Yei Xiu’s standing within the Sacred Jiang Family was not low, and he was privy to many of its affairs, his knowledge of the Slaughter Ancient God remained quite limited.

On this point, Yei Xiu offered an explanation as well. Essentially, those who communicated directly with the Slaughter Ancient God numbered only two: Jiang Zishen, the Sacred Master of the Sacred Jiang Family, and another figure known only as Elder Qing.

Others rarely had any opportunity to interact with the Slaughter Ancient God in any meaningful capacity. Even those who regularly offered worship at the altar could see no more than the Slaughter Ancient God’s statue. They very seldom witnessed the Slaughter Ancient God manifest in his True Body.

So Lu Fan and the others were unable to extract a great deal of information about the Slaughter Ancient God from Yei Xiu’s mouth.

Concerning the Sacred Jiang Family itself, however, they had now gained a far clearer picture.

In the past, the Sacred Jiang Family had been trapped, sealed into an underground vault by the numerous Sacred Lands that betrayed it.

What none had known was that this ruin was, in fact, one of the historical remains left behind by the Era of Mountains and Seas.

During the previous era, the Slaughter Ancient God had been slain by the Fallen Corpse Ancient God in the Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy and had failed to claim victory. With his Ancient God Power drifting rootless across the land, he found a location he was familiar with and lay down there in deep slumber, awaiting the opening of the next era.

He waited for several millions of years.

It was not until the Jiang Family members, in their despair, were sealed within that underground vault that he was finally roused from his long sleep.

Seizing the opportunity, he reached an agreement with these Jiang Family survivors. He would help them to go on living, while they in turn would help him reawaken, restore his power, and re-enter the Ancient Gods Struggle For Supremacy of this new era.

The Sacred Jiang Family was not ignorant of what would come to pass should the Slaughter Ancient God become God King.

It was clear that everyone would die. And the next era would be drenched in slaughter and despair, stretching for hundreds of thousands of years, until the next God King arose to overturn it.

Yet the Sacred Jiang Family did not care.

Because they were people who had already died once. Their hatred for this world was beyond words.

In particular, Jiang Zishen. His way of doing things had always been deeply extreme.

While imprisoned in the underground vault, he had made a vow: if he ever managed to leave that place alive, he would ensure that every person in this world was buried alongside him.

For there were many in this world who deserved death. And if that was the case, why not simply overturn the world entirely?

And at that very moment, the Slaughter Ancient God had appeared.

Jiang Zishen believed this was the Will of Heaven.

He was more than willing to work for the Slaughter Ancient God, to help him recover his strength, to bring ruin to this world, to kill every person in it. Every last one. Including himself.

That was the seed from which the Sacred Jiang Family had grown.

As the years passed, a number of talented individuals within the Sacred Land were betrayed and nearly killed through one circumstance or another. They were rescued by the Sacred Jiang Family and were steeped in Jiang Zishen’s ideology.

Every one of them became like Jiang Zishen. They were filled with a consuming hatred for this world, burning to see it annihilated.

And so, these people gathered together, forming what was now known as the Sacred Jiang Family.

An ordinary Sacred Land would number in the tens of thousands, its reserves deep and formidable.

The Sacred Jiang Family, in truth, had far fewer people, barely breaking a thousand.

Among those thousand-odd, nearly half did not bear the Jiang surname at all. They were outsiders like Yei Xiu, who had been rescued and, having embraced the Sacred Land’s doctrine, had willingly joined its ranks.

Though naturally talented to begin with, they had further received the Ancient God Power of the Slaughter Ancient God, rendering their strength unstoppable, just as Yei Xiu’s had been.

Despite being of different surnames, all of them together were no different from any ordinary Sacred Land.

Everyone united by a single purpose: the annihilation of the world. And so, the entire Sacred Jiang Family, from top to bottom, was like a single rope drawn taut and twisted as one.

Having heard the full account of the Sacred Jiang Family, even Lu Fan could not help but feel a chill.

For by this telling, the entire Sacred Jiang Family could not truly be called a Sacred Land at all. It was basically a concentration camp of fanatical zealots.

An ordinary Sacred Land, when facing total destruction, would see the majority of its people scatter like startled birds. Betrayal just to escape and preserve their lives would be entirely plausible.

But the people of the Sacred Jiang Family would likely perish alongside it to the last, never even contemplating betrayal.

Their devotion to the Slaughter Ancient God bordered on feverish madness. How else could they bring themselves to commit acts so thoroughly beyond reason as working to annihilate the entire world?!

Any notion of persuading the Sacred Jiang Family to peacefully sever its ties with the Slaughter Ancient God was clearly impossible.

Furthermore, in order to slay the Slaughter Ancient God, the Sacred Jiang Family was an obstacle that absolutely could not be bypassed.

Though not large in number, after so many years of development, with the covert support of the Slaughter Ancient God, the Sacred Jiang Family’s foundations were no weaker than those of any other Sacred Land.

So this time, what Lu Fan had to contend with was a Sacred Land, combined with an Ancient God of immeasurable power.

Once every question had been asked, those assembled had formed a broadly clear picture of the Sacred Jiang Family.

For now, Yei Xiu had become entirely without further use.

Earlier, Lu Fan had said that if Yei Xiu was willing to speak of everything, he would not mind setting him free.

But as matters stood, Yei Xiu had indeed revealed everything about the Sacred Jiang Family. However, it was only because Ouyang Bai Ge had used her own abilities to pry this information out from his mouth.

Therefore, Lu Fan was under no obligation whatsoever to honour his promise and grant him a way out.

In truth, Yei Xiu was himself a man of unfortunate circumstances. He had been betrayed and nearly killed for various reasons, and it was only because the Sacred Jiang Family had saved him that he lived on to this day.

He had every reason to hate this world. Every reason to do terrible things for the Sacred Jiang Family and for the Slaughter Ancient God, to kill many people.

Yet by that same token, Lu Fan had every reason to kill him.

A person like this, left alive, would be an enduring calamity for the world.

Lu Fan had been on the verge of settling things with a single thrust of his spear. However, after a moment of consideration, he turned his head to look at Situ Xiong. “Senior Situ, this man has taken the life of Senior Situ Ying. To the Situ Family, he is a blood enemy who has committed every manner of evil. If you are willing, I shall leave this man’s fate to the Situ Family to decide.”

Situ Xiong had originally assumed that Lu Fan would handle Yei Xiu himself, either to kill him, or let him go.

He had not expected Lu Fan would so quickly place the other man directly into his own hands, allowing him to personally cut Yei Xiu down and avenge his Older Brother.

Overcome with emotion, he turned to Lu Fan and clasped his hands in a deep bow. “My deepest gratitude, Little Brother Lu!”
