When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 219: Chapter 92: Top Star of the 60s Cultural Troupe (31)

He Qingran took the initiative to scrub the pots and wash the dishes. After tidying up, she sidled up to Xia Zhaoyun, who was holding a pen in her left hand.

”Yunyun, you should teach me how to cook from now on!” Xia Zhaoyun had wanted to teach her before, but He Qingran was only interested in eating. She had absolutely no patience for learning how to cook delicious food step by step.

But this time she had a goal in mind and was full of motivation. The mere thought of one day cooking such a delicious meal for the person she loved, watching them eat with satisfaction, was enough to make her heart stir.

Xia Zhaoyun smiled and nodded. ”Okay. From now on, you can wake up early with me, and I’ll teach you bit by bit.”

She still wanted to maintain her persona of being deaf and having an injured hand, so the letter she had written before had to be hidden away.

Right now, she was fiddling with the fountain pen in her left hand, and there wasn’t the slightest hint of awkwardness.

Xia Zhaoyun lowered her gaze, her mind filled with more speculation. Pen in hand, she began to write out from memory the results of the half-hour she had dawdled away that afternoon. The handwriting was still a beautiful and fluid semi-cursive script!

He Qingran, who was playing with the children, glanced over and asked in surprise, ”Yunyun, are you left-handed?”

Xia Zhaoyun smiled, pressing her lips together. ”I practiced calligraphy diligently since I was young. I can use both my left and right hands.”

’To be precise, I can write different characters with both hands at the same time. It’s just that this time it feels even more natural. I’m afraid my left hand is now on par with my right. This must also be a benefit from having been a Ghost Cultivator.’

Astonishing healing abilities, excellent physical attributes, and extraordinary mimicry skills—these were the benefits she clearly felt her rebirth had brought her. In later generations, they were commonly known as a Golden Finger!

Xia Zhaoyun felt that since something as incredible as rebirth had already happened, possessing three Golden Fingers was a perfectly natural occurrence. This gave her even more confidence in the future.

「The next day.」

At the crack of dawn, Xia Zhaoyun woke from her sleep, feeling content. The air was still a little cool. Beside her, the two little ones were curled up together, sleeping soundly, though the thin blanket covering them had slipped off.

She couldn’t help but smile and pull the blanket back over their little bellies. She got up quietly, first putting water on to boil and millet congee on to simmer. After tying up her hair and washing up, she began to do her stretches.

After she finished a quick shower and came out, He Qingran was just getting up, rubbing her eyes. She mumbled groggily, ”Yunyun, you’re up so early?” and then drifted toward the bathroom.

Xia Zhaoyun chuckled and asked, ”Qingran, want to learn how to make breakfast? What would you like to learn?”

Hearing this, He Qingran perked up. She tilted her head in thought, then said quietly, a little embarrassed, ”Why don’t you start by teaching me the simplest things, like how to boil eggs and make congee?”

Her mother had passed away when she was very young, and her stepmother had adopted a strategy of spoiling her rotten. She let He Qingran do nothing but play, so how could she have possibly been kind enough to teach her the most basic life skills?

Xia Zhaoyun nodded. ”Sure. Go wash up and tie your hair back.”

At this, her eyes shifted slightly, and she said with a smile, ”This morning, I’ll teach you the simplest, most basic things. As long as you remember these key points, you won’t have to be afraid of cooking any dish in the future.”

”Oh, right. I’ll also write down two recipes for you, one meat and one vegetable, to bulk up your script readings for work.”

Xia Zhaoyun had a lot of things from the future in her head. A Ghost Cultivator, after all, had some abilities. Her memory was better than an ordinary person’s, and she had unintentionally stored away many ”zero-fail” recipes from a certain app—enough to fill a booklet.

In this era of material and spiritual scarcity, she wanted to do something to make a change. She couldn’t do anything on a grand scale, but she could add a little more enjoyment to the lives of the military families and get them to focus less of their energy on gossip.

At the same time, she would only supply these scripts to He Qingran, giving her a competitive edge that no one else could take.

’If He Qingran and Liu Mingkun really get together, she’ll have to find a way to get transferred to the city, just like me. And this could be a stepping stone for her.’

He Qingran nodded eagerly and trotted off to the bathroom to take care of business.

After washing up and tying her hair back, she came over with a pen and a new notebook. Like an elementary school student, she diligently wrote down everything Xia Zhaoyun said.

Boiling eggs and making congee were actually very simple. As long as you knew how to use the stove, you could follow the steps and make them just fine.

He Qingran looked at the few short lines of text on the page, feeling full of confidence about learning to cook.

”Yunyun, once I get a little better at this, I’ll take care of all the cooking and dishwashing at home!”

Xia Zhaoyun smiled and nodded. ”Cooking is something that requires countless hours of hands-on practice before it becomes second nature. Eventually, you’ll be able to move beyond the specific steps and figure out the cooking methods, timing, and seasoning all on your own.”
