When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 160: Chapter 74: Top Sister of the 60s Song and Dance Troupe (13)

’When it comes to men, you have to go with the flow, stroke their egos a bit. Once that rebellious streak is gone, who’s going to remember who she is anyway?’

’All she had to do was act obedient and mediocre. She was sure he’d have no interest in a woman like that.’

Huo Tianhao said nothing more, just started the motorcycle and shot off.

Xia Zhaoyun let out a small cry. She hadn’t expected him to go so fast. On instinct, she wrapped her other arm around him, squeezed her eyes shut, and bumped her head against his back. Her voice was tinged with a genuine sob. ”Slow down!”

She was someone who had died once before. Although she didn’t remember how painful death was, she definitely cherished her life more than anyone else!

Huo Tianhao scoffed lightly but ultimately slowed to a steadier pace.

Old Mo’s was a foreign restaurant, famous in the Capital City during this era. It was practically a status symbol for the children of the elite compounds.

The two groups that had just faced off now ran into each other again. It was a perfect example of enemies seeing red at the sight of each other. One by one, they glared and craned their necks like fighting cocks.

”Xu Weilin, you guys lost the game and still came to Old Mo’s to celebrate?” Liu Mingkun was feeling extremely smug, twirling his car keys. ”Well, well, isn’t this the new ’sister-in-law’? I hear she’s an announcer, and the future, pre-ordained champion of the Golden Microphone?”

Xia Zhaoyun, who was walking over, paused for a moment before obediently following Huo Tianhao to a seat.

”Liu Mingkun, are you fucking asking for a beating? You’re really something else now. You hired an outsider to win a game, what’s there to be so proud of? Shameless and thick-skinned. And now you’re making fun of a woman?” Xu Weilin clicked his tongue, grinding his teeth in anger as he remembered the motorcycle he had lost.

Liu Mingkun wasn’t afraid of him and snorted, ”Still better than certain people who use a championship to hook someone! I feel sorry for all those ambitious young ladies participating in the Golden Microphone. How sad and disappointed would they be if they knew the winner was already decided?”

The woman sitting next to Xu Weilin hurriedly said, ”Sir, please watch your words. The Golden Microphone is a fair and just competition. We all participate based on our own abilities. How could it possibly be fixed?”

”The eyes of the masses are sharp. Whoever has the skill wins the trophy! If, as you say, sir, someone was pulling strings behind the scenes, the value of the Golden Microphone would be greatly diminished. It definitely wouldn’t be the grand event it is today!”

”Brother Lin... Brother Lin is also a law-abiding person.”

Liu Mingkun played with his keys without looking up. ”Who doesn’t know you, the famous Announcer Yu from the department store? You’ve hosted countless galas, big and small. No one would question it if you won the championship. It’s just a shame that a dark horse, hoping to make a splash, ends up tripping at the threshold...”

The others nodded in agreement. ”Exactly. If Announcer Yu placed second, third, or fourth, Brother Lin could just find someone, say a few words, slip them a couple cartons of cigarettes, and you’d jump to first place. Who would question it?”

”It’s just reciting an article. How hard can that be? The whole competition is just a way for people like you to gild your reputations, isn’t it?”

Yu Huanxin’s face flushed red from their accusations.

Xu Weilin also felt that he had been publicly humiliated by the South Courtyard crowd, and in front of a group of women, no less!

He took a deep breath and said, ”You question others just because you have no real skills yourselves? Huanxin is one of the best in her field. She can withstand any test or competition!”

”Without using connections?” Liu Mingkun asked with a smile and a raised eyebrow.

”Why would she need to use connections when she has real talent?” Xu Weilin nodded. Under the table, however, Yu Huanxin’s hand was tightly clenching a handkerchief as she struggled to maintain the smile on her face.

Liu Mingkun was satisfied. ”Alright then. We’ll be watching closely to see how the woman our Brother Lin found takes the crown.”

With that, he turned his head and looked smugly at Xia Zhaoyun. ”Sister-in-law, you can compete with confidence. There are no under-the-table deals in the Golden Microphone. The son of the person in charge of the organizing committee has just said so himself.”

”We’re all rooting for you!”

’In his eyes, how could someone Brother Hao valued be a mere fish in a pond?’

’As long as I help clear away the obstacles, Sister-in-law should be able to bag the championship with ease!’

After speaking, he even grinned at Huo Tianhao, as if seeking credit. Huo Tianhao just put his hand to his forehead, unable to watch.

’You don’t fear a god-like opponent, but you do fear a pig-like teammate.’

Xia Zhaoyun, who was trying her best to fade into the background while lamenting her lost two hundred yuan and radio, was suddenly buried under a barrage of gazes.

”Well now, who’s this? Can’t even bear to take off her sunglasses to eat in a restaurant?”

Xu Weilin felt a stir of interest, his gaze brazenly and possessively sizing her up.

Until now, Xia Zhaoyun had been trailing behind Huo Tianhao, and everyone had been too caught up in the heated argument to notice her.

Now, everyone was stunned by the sudden appearance of this tall, slender woman with a fair, delicate face and an elegant demeanor.
