When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 86: Chapter 49: Chaff-and-Bran Wife of the 50s

Old Mrs. Wang’s body went stiff.

She had just been putting on a show, keeping her voice as low as possible. Who would have thought the young man would actually turn around?

That was a whole stack of ”Great Unity” bills, at least one or two hundred yuan.

Once it was in her hands, it was rightfully hers. Now that it had been snatched back, didn’t it feel like half her heart was being carved out?

Though she was twitching in pain, Old Mrs. Wang couldn’t say a thing. After all, everyone around was watching.

She clutched her stomach and forced a laugh. ”You’re welcome, you’re welcome.”

The young man was very enthusiastic, helping her up. ”Ma’am, where are you feeling unwell? My aunt works in the gastroenterology department. I can have her take a look at you.”

With that, he expertly led her into the room.

The onlookers didn’t find this the least bit strange. In their eyes, using connections was commonplace. Besides, the old woman had returned something she found, so what was the big deal about her cutting in line?

Before long, the young man came out supporting her again, took her to get some medicine, and saw her to the main gate.

Once she was gone, he trotted over to Zhu Yun, his face alight with excitement. ”Holy cow, does Director Wang give all his money to his wife? His mother acts like she’s never had a decent meal in her life! Master, Director Wang, guess how much that old lady ate?”

The two exchanged a look. ”Three bowls of rice?”

Zhu Yun, who still possessed the memories of Old Mrs. Wang’s former daughter-in-law, asked tentatively.

Lou Ziyang clicked his tongue and shook his head. He held up five fingers. ”Five bowls. Five whole bowls of rice, plus four plates of food. She said your cooking was so delicious that she couldn’t help but let herself go.”

After that, he remembered what Zhu Yun had asked him to do. ”I asked my aunt. She hasn’t been home since yesterday morning. She only got three hours of sleep in between and can barely keep her eyes open now.”

”’It’s not just overeating. It’s people going to several cafeterias, eating all sorts of things, and getting bloated. Or people with weak stomachs suddenly eating rich, greasy food and getting diarrhea.’”

”’This morning, there was a really dangerous case. Someone ate about ten big meat buns and almost choked to death!’”

The expressions on Zhu Yun’s and Director Wang’s faces turned grim.

”Ask your aunt for some case files. Redact the personal information, make several copies, and post them in various places. And while you’re at it, copy and post this, too.” Zhu Yun handed him the new cafeteria regulations.

Lou Ziyang nodded. ”Don’t worry, Master. I’ll get it done for you before dinner tonight.”

Zhu Yun shrugged at Director Wang. ”Looks like things are even more intense than we thought.”

In her opinion, the standard of living at the machinery factory was decent. Overeating was to be expected, but she hadn’t imagined it would be this severe on the first couple of days.

’I thought only people from the countryside would act like this.’

’But this is good in a way. For the first two days, everyone’s excited and stuffing themselves. In a few more days, their appetites will probably shrink, and they’ll start causing a lot of waste.’

’That’s why I have to nip this in the bud from the very beginning, before anyone realizes what’s happening.’

Director Wang wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to Lou Ziyang, ”Ziyang, make an extra copy for me later. I’ll take it to show the leadership. We need to have a meeting to discuss this properly. We have to ensure the new cafeteria regulations can be implemented.”

Zhu Yun returned to the cafeteria. There was a constant line of children waiting at the cold drinks window.

However, since the cold treats were time-consuming to make and produced in small batches, Zhu Yun had established a rule from the start: only one per person per day. To enforce this, she had even requested a list of employees from the administration building and required proof of household to prevent any tricks.

She glanced over, then went to her office to start writing the dinner menu.

The knowledge in Zhu Yun’s head, aside from that of the original owner of her body, came from the various training courses she had been forced to attend at the Space-Time Administration Bureau.

Memorizing medicinal formulas, recipes, musical scores, perfume formulas, and the like was practically part of a standard installation package.

Anyone could use these formulas and get started right away, just like one of those ”zero-fail” methods from a certain short-video app.

So now, she was writing one out from memory. Things like the rotating shift system and guiding everyone’s cooking skills were just a foot in the door. Once she got everyone on her ”pirate ship,” everything would go according to her whims.

She called her two apprentices over to copy the recipe several times, numbering each copy. It wasn’t a one-time-use thing; they could be brought out and used again from time to time.

”You guys should each take a copy too. It’s not a critically important formula, but for you, it’s a treasure,” Zhu Yun said with a smile. ”From now on, I’ll be issuing a menu every day. Feel free to copy down any you haven’t seen before. Those other chefs are my introductory disciples, but you two are my live-in disciples.”

Seeing her two apprentices flush red with excitement, she couldn’t bear to look and couldn’t help but add:

”Your master has plenty of recipes. As long as you build up your fundamentals, these are just the appetizers!”
