Chapter 2795: Chapter 2796: The Debate Over Innocence

Because of what Dox said, Genggui and Erbao seemed to accept Angel’s explanation and no longer pursued the matter further.

However, they were not here just to ask this one question.

There was another matter they were more concerned about.

Erbao: ”Have you met with Young Soul?”

”You mean Young Ghost?” Seeing Erbao nod, Angel shook his head directly: ”I haven’t seen him.”

Dox also chimed in: ”If you’re talking about the time after we arrived at the Underground Aqueduct, then he shouldn’t have seen the so-called Young Ghost. I’ve said he was basically with us.”

”But if you’re talking about before, then I don’t know.”

Although Erbao was a bit impatient with Dox’s interruption, he didn’t say anything, just stared at Angel with a grim tone: ”Young Soul said you broke its finger...”

Break a finger? Angel was stunned for a moment, as if he had thought of something.

”Although we have signed a contract, if you really broke Young Soul’s finger, the contract would be nothing more than waste paper,” Erbao said coldly.

Erbao’s words carried a strong sense of threat, and this time, Genggui did not stop him, showing that they were truly angry about Young Soul’s finger being broken.

At first, everyone didn’t believe Angel would do such a thing, but seeing Angel fall into contemplation, their hearts couldn’t help but skip a beat.

Although Dox kept saying that since arriving at the Underground Aqueduct, they were with Angel, Angel did have times when he acted alone. For instance, during the work area of the Hanging Jail Stairway, which was filled with Ghosteye Witches, Angel had left alone.

Perhaps during that time, Angel really did break Young Soul’s finger. Even though Angel later ”broadcast” it, the broadcast wasn’t real, just an illusion simulation by Angel. Who really knows the truth?

When everyone else was also hesitant, Angel finally raised his head.

”I think I know who you’re talking about...”

As Angel spoke, he raised his hand and pointed into the air.

The air seemed to turn into water, rippling with waves. As the ripples spread and disappeared, an illusion appeared in front of Angel out of thin air.

Or rather... an Illusion Screen.

Because the main part of the illusion was a flat mirror, and in the center of the mirror, there was a row of glowing blood letters:

”Leave here, or we will give you a permanent residence permit.”

After creating this illusion, Angel exchanged a glance with the Black Earl, then looked at Erbao: ”Is this left by Young Ghost?”

When Monocle Erbao saw the glowing blood letters on the illusion, his eyes widened in anger at Angel: ”As expected, you really did it!”

At this moment, Genggui also floated beside Erbao, exuding a ghostly chill, looking at Angel with a few more degrees of severity.

Seeing the atmosphere becoming tense, Angel sighed long and hard: ”Is it Young Ghost who told you I broke its finger?”

Erbao: ”What, do you still plan to argue?”

Angel shrugged: ”Why argue when the facts are right here? Do you think that the Young Ghost who left this blood message is grieving over having its finger broken by me, or is it threatening me boastfully?”

”...Although this sentence is a bit of a grammatical error, you, who best understand Young Ghost, should know the intention behind its words, right? You should also be able to see what its emotions were when it left this message, right?”

Angel felt there was no need to explain, as these blood letters were right here. If he really had broken Young Ghost’s finger, why would it leave this message? To show that it was just a paper tiger?

Of course, if Erbao and Genggui completely disregarded the truth and believed whatever Young Ghost said even if it were a lie, then arguing would be meaningless.

Meanwhile, Erbao and Genggui fell into deep thought.

In fact, Erbao and Genggui, one wise, the other steady, were much more rational in their approach than Xiaobao.

So, when Young Ghost mentioned this matter, although they were angry, they did not immediately believe Young Ghost’s words.

Because while Young Ghost was proudly saying it had driven Angel away, it also pitifully claimed its finger was broken. This stark contrast in emotions made it hard to believe its words instantly.

If it were Shaonü Xin or Cimu Xin saying these words, they would believe without hesitation. But Young Ghost’s character was mischievous, in other words: both troublesome and naive.

So it was possible for Young Ghost to lie, and it had a track record of lying.

Because of this, although they came with the intention of seeking revenge for Young Ghost, they also needed to hear Angel’s explanation.

And what Angel said, even though he didn’t explicitly state it, just presenting these blood letters, perfectly revealed the core of the matter. And this core was also the point at which they found it odd when dealing with Young Ghost before.

Prideful yet pitiful, how could these two unrelated emotions coexist? They couldn’t figure it out.

Undoubtedly, these blood letters must have been written by Young Ghost. Because only Young Ghost would be capable of such behavior, wanting to show off its understanding and flaunt its literary prowess.

It was also indubitable that from their understanding, Young Ghost was indeed threatening Angel. Moreover, seeing as the blood letters reflected on the mirror surface, it could be deduced that Young Ghost’s little finger had to have already been broken before writing, otherwise, where would the blood have come from?

Having its finger broken by Angel and then using blood to leave this threatening message on the mirror surface, does this sound like something Young Ghost would do?

Unlikely. If Young Ghost had really had its finger severed, its first reaction would definitely be to attack, and if the attack failed, to run away and complain.

Young Ghost could move freely within the Mirror Domain and could easily find help in an instant, just like this time when delivering a message from the Dominators, it found them quickly.

But Young Ghost didn’t do that, neither attacking nor promptly complaining.

Therefore, it can be determined that Young Ghost did not feel aggrieved at that time.

From the tone of the blood letters, it seems more like Young Ghost broke its own finger to threaten Angel and left a message on the mirror...

Though self-harm sounds a bit unbelievable, this is not the first time such a thing has occurred.

Back when Cimu Xin had Young Ghost teach Xiaobao how to read, Young Ghost, having painstakingly constructed a hand, broke two fingers, using the blood oozing from them to teach Xiaobao by writing letters on the ground.

According to Young Ghost, this way Xiaobao would remember forever and never forget.

And Xiaobao indeed recalled this ”lesson” exactly as Young Ghost described, forever etched in memory... However, whenever thinking back, Xiaobao would turn pale and shiver in fear.

With this connection in mind, Erbao and Genggui exchanged glances, and a guess formed in their minds.

However, whether this speculation is correct still needs to be confirmed by Angel.

”Since you don’t admit it was you, how did Childheart’s finger break?” Genggui’s voice softened slightly as he asked Angel.

”It broke itself.” Angel replied calmly, ”Also, don’t forget it’s inside the mirror, and I’m outside. Do you think I might dive into the Mirror Domain to deal with it?”

At this time, Erbao and Genggui basically believed Angel’s words, as this also matched their speculation.

Angel also detected from Hyper Perception that Erbao and Genggui had probably guessed the general situation.

However, even if they guessed part of the situation, Childheart’s finger was still broken, and indeed, the reason is somewhat related to Angel. Angel was quite curious to see how Genggui and Erbao would choose after knowing the whole truth.

Would they still blame him? Or get angry out of shame? Or would the matter just fade away?

Angel could sense that they both were feeling very complicated, probably pondering how to wrap things up.

While Erbao and Genggui deliberated, Angel also issued a warning to everyone through the Mind Ribbon.

If the talks completely break down, they might still have to face You Nu’s two children.

Previously, the Wise Sovereign clearly stated that if they really had to fight, they might even be luckier facing You Nu than facing these two brothers. And the Wise Sovereign admitted that he himself was unwilling to face them.

This shows that Erbao and Genggui definitely have some special means.

This method might be like You Nu’s devouring ability, unless there’s a way to counter it, it’s an unsolvable problem.

So, if they really have to fight, they must be very prudent and cautious.

If anything goes wrong, Dox must open the Plane Corridor to prepare to take everyone and flee.

”Why is it always me who has to open the Plane Corridor?” Dox frowned tightly.

”If we’re forced to leave because of this, I’ll pay for your casting materials,” Angel said.

Only upon hearing Angel offer to reimburse him did Dox relax his brow. However, he was also curious about Angel’s statement: ”So, you really did meet Childheart. When did this happen? How come I don’t know?”

”I know about this matter.” Black Earl’s voice resounded in the Mind Ribbon.

Dox looked at Black Earl in surprise; if Black Earl knew, shouldn’t he also know? Angel did have times when he acted alone, but Black Earl never acted alone from beginning to end.

Angel: ”At the end of the second floor, the dressing mirror.”

Once Angel pointed it out, everyone suddenly understood. If it was there, it was indeed possible... they remembered at that time Angel and Black Earl were the last to come out.

So, the dressing mirror in that room was actually the mirror Angel now presented within the illusion?

Black Earl: ”This matter is indeed not Angel’s fault; it was Childheart You Nu who provoked first, and what Angel said is true.”

Even if Black Earl didn’t verify it, everyone actually believed Angel because they remembered clearly that although Angel and Black Earl were the last to come out, the time difference wasn’t long.

No signs of battle waves were transmitted from that room.

If Angel really did something, they definitely would have felt it.

”So Childheart is falsely accusing Angel?” Dox stroked his chin and turned to look at Vay: ”Vay, if your mother slandered an innocent person, whose side would you be on as her son?”

Vay glanced at Black Earl and said quietly, ”My mother wouldn’t slander an innocent person; she only slanders me...”

Dox: ”Oh right, I seem to remember you saying that you were punished by the grown-ups at home for this many times?”

Vay looked at Black Earl again and didn’t dare to speak further.

Dox turned to Kaier: ”What about you?”

Kaier forced a stiff smile and stammered for a long time without knowing what to say. However, Kaier soon didn’t have to answer because Erbao and Genggui, after thinking for a long time, finally spoke up.

Erbao was the first to speak, though its attitude was not very good, leaving only a sentence: ”The information has been conveyed to you, and I’ve resolved my doubts too, so I’m leaving now.”

After speaking, Erbao gave Genggui a dissatisfied glare, seemingly urging Genggui to leave with him, but Genggui seemed to ignore it.

Erbao could only reluctantly leave alone, burrowing underground and disappearing in the blink of an eye.

Even without Hyper Perception, from the energy sensed by the surrounding Array Plate, Angel could confirm that Erbao had indeed left.

After Erbao left, Genggui felt a ghostly loneliness.

Genggui coughed lightly to ease his inner embarrassment, then looked at Angel with an apologetic expression: ”We already know the details; it’s Childheart who is wrong, and here I apologize on its behalf.”

After Erbao left, Genggui chose to apologize, which actually didn’t surprise Angel.

It can be basically determined that Genggui was advocating for an apology, while Erbao likely wanted the matter to fade away. They never reached an agreement, so Erbao simply left on its own, with only Genggui staying behind to apologize to Angel.

No matter if this apology is sincere or not, Erbao and Genggui’s choices were to avoid direct confrontation with Angel. This, instead, surprised him a little.

Previously, the Wise Sovereign always emphasized that You Nu’s three children were closer to their mother, causing him to label them as ”mama’s boys,” but now it seems... it’s different from what he imagined.

”Is it because of Childheart’s issue?” Angel suddenly asked.

Genggui paused, not knowing what he meant.

Angel: ”I mean, if it were Kind Mother Heart or Girl Heart, would you make a different choice?”

Genggui remained silent.

However, its silence was also a kind of response.

It seems that it is indeed because of Childheart You Nu’s influence. Although, in a certain sense, it is also their mother, Genggui and Erbao consistently refer to it as Childheart, never as mother. This shows that perhaps Childheart holds a high position in their hearts but definitely does not surpass Kind Mother Heart or Girl Heart.

”I understand.” Angel shrugged: ”Actually, you don’t need to apologize, the stances are simply different. But since you apologized, I accept it.”

Genggui took a deep look at Angel: ”In any case, it’s us who misunderstood you. I hope you can return safely from the remnants...”

After speaking, Genggui nodded to Angel again and then sank underground.
