Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 2789: Chapter 2790: Gastly

”Kaier is gone!” Vay turned his head, anxiously speaking to everyone.

But Dox and the Black Earl remained silent, even his loud calls didn’t draw their attention.

Vay wanted to seek Angel’s help, but upon looking carefully, he realized not only had Kaier vanished... Angel was missing too.

”Lord Chaowei... Kaier...” Vay’s face was full of astonishment as he unconsciously took a few steps back.

”Don’t be so surprised, I know they’re gone,” Dox finally came to his senses and turned to Vay.

Vay still looked puzzled: ”How come they disappeared suddenly? What happened?”

Dox: ”Nothing much happened, it’s just that Kaier seemed to have accidentally stepped into a dog hole and fell in, and Angel saw it and jumped in after him.”

Vay: ”And then?”

Dox nodded: ”That’s it, there’s no ’and then’.

Vay’s suppressed anger seemed to ignite instantly: ”And that’s called ’nothing’? Tell me, where is there a dog hole nearby?”

As his shouting reached its peak, Vay’s voice suddenly dropped, muttering to himself: ”Dog hole? You say dog hole?”

”You mean... You Nu?”

”Why are you shouting?” Dox fiddled with his ear: ”Not You Nu, it’s likely one of Cyclops Family’s treasures... I just thought it through, since they’re You Nu’s three kids, according to the Wise Sovereign, they shouldn’t kill Angel.”

Vay’s expression was still not relaxed, insisting seriously: ”Anyway, it’s uncertain. Not certain about the Wise Sovereign’s words, not certain about the Cyclops Family’s character. What if they really act?”

Dox: ”If they really act, I think Angel should be fine.”

”What about Kaier?”

Dox: ”Kaier, he’ll have to rely on luck then.”

Hearing such irresponsible words from Dox, Vay’s anger began to rise again. At this moment, the Black Earl’s voice came: ”Don’t worry, unlike before, this time I don’t sense malice or danger.”

The Black Earl had always been sniffing near the dog hole for positioning, so he was more sensitive to these dog holes than others. Though he couldn’t determine this time if it was the first or second treasure, he could still judge the presence of malice or killing intent.

Moreover, when Kaier fell into the dog hole, Angel was able to detect it and follow, how could the Black Earl not notice?

The reason the Black Earl didn’t follow was simple; he knew that if one wants to pass You Nu’s blockade without harming it, it’s estimated that only the method of the Magical Energy Array can resolve it. And only Angel at the scene can achieve it; his following might create pressure and burden, it’s better for Angel to go alone.

During this period, everything Angel did and decided on was witnessed by the Black Earl, and he believed that with Angel’s ability, he could handle this matter perfectly.

So, now they don’t need to do anything, just wait.

...

Meanwhile, Angel and Kaier are in a pitch-black space.

Kaier looked around with a puzzled expression; he remembered falling into a very small hole and didn’t feel a landing, how did he end up here?

This space looked quite large, surrounded by walls with no flaws visible, no doors or windows, no light, like a dark dungeon.

Most importantly, Kaier found his spiritual power unable to leave his body, meaning he couldn’t use his spiritual power perspective to examine hidden corners in the dark.

And Kaier hadn’t learned other methods to open an energy perspective, this made him feel a bit apprehensive.

In other words, Kaier now could only rely on his naked eyes, which are most easily deceived.

If Kaier were alone in this, he would probably start feeling fear and confusion. Fortunately, Lord Chaowei was beside him, which made Kaier’s heart slightly at ease.

”Master, this place is...”

”Inside the belly of Cyclops Treasures one or two,” Angel answered Kaier while secretly instructing Earl Mi to diffuse his shadow around.

Angel’s spiritual power was suppressed too, but the degree of suppression was limited; if he insisted on breaking it through, he still could. However, in unknown places, Angel was more cautious and careful than usual.

His spiritual power wasn’t strong, if specifically targeted, he’d be in a passive position.

Therefore, Angel connected his perspective with Earl Mi’s, Earl Mi’s eyes saw a pure energy world, capable of clearly sensing all details around.

You could say Earl Mi could completely replace Angel’s spiritual power, even stronger.

If Earl Mi doesn’t have an issue, Angel would probably be more relieved.

Angel shook his head, setting aside the potential resurrection of Earl Mi’s consciousness, carefully observing the surroundings.

Previously checked with the naked eye, only saw emptiness around, but in Earl Mi’s perspective, Angel saw a cluster of darkness standing not far away.

It was a pure, continuously expanding and contracting cluster of darkness.

Like a deliberately gathered fog ball, just here the fog transformed into dancing fiery darkness.

If it were just a dark sphere, Angel would probably focus first, then continue checking other places for mechanisms or exits.

But this dark sphere was slightly different.

Angel sensed emotions within the dark sphere, complex, without pure malice.

Using an anthropomorphic analogy, it’s like a normally composed gentleman suddenly discovering an intriguing unknown object, doesn’t dare to touch directly, cautiously observing.

It might sound fine initially, but thinking deeper, this composed ”gentleman” who is observing the unknown object – who or what is it? Angel and Kaier.

In the other’s view, he and Kaier were just objects, with the unknown meaning: value or lack thereof.

Even though there was no malice exposed, this attitude of treating life as objects brings a stronger shock feeling than malice.

Leaving aside the other’s worldview and values for now, just discussing this dark sphere, if nothing else, it should be one of the three children of the Wise Sovereign’s You Nu as mentioned.

”We’re inside its belly? Then, then how do we get out?” Kaier instinctively moved closer to Angel.

Angel: ”That, you’ll have to ask the host here, what’s the intention of inviting us.”

”The master of this place? Are you referring to Cyclops Big Treasure and Cyclops Second Treasure?” Kaier glanced around but didn’t see any ”human” figures.

Angel nodded: ”To be precise, we are inside Cyclops Big Treasure.”

As Angel said this, he looked toward the direction of the dark sphere: ”Want to chat? Should I continue to call you Cyclops Big Treasure, or would you prefer another name?”

Kaier looked in the direction Angel was speaking, saw nothing, but trusted Angel’s judgment and kept staring hard in that direction.

After Kaier stared for a good half-minute, finally, that dark sphere slowly revealed a shadow in the energy perspective.

It’s just a shadow, not truly appearing in the Material Realm; it remained in the Energy Perspective.

Seeing this shadow, Angel was somewhat surprised. The other clearly knew Angel could see him yet was still willing to show up, which amounted to cooperating with Kaier. Creating a projection in the material realm just for an apprentice, in a sense, can be considered a small ”sincerity”?

After the dark sphere projected, it very humanely gave itself an eye and a mouth to speak.

The eye was oval, with the white occupying ninety percent, and the pupil was a small black dot. The mouth took up half of the sphere’s proportion, revealing two protruding white tusks.

Though knowing the eyes and mouth were only simulations, its appearance... was strikingly similar to a certain cartoon character Angel had seen on a holographic tablet.

Angel tried hard to hold back but finally couldn’t help but say: ”Or would you prefer it if I called you Ghostie?”

Angel’s sudden remark abruptly broke the eerie atmosphere of the dark sphere’s appearance.

”Ghostie? Is this how you humans refer to our clan?”

The voice came from the dark sphere, much younger than Angel had imagined. He thought the voice would be old and steady, but it was young and assured.

”No, Her Majesty Goddess said that we three brothers are unique. Humans couldn’t possibly have a common name for us.”

Though it was just a simple statement, it carried a tone of questioning Angel.

Angel earnestly explained: ”Ghostie is a type of spiritual body creature, quite similar to the form you are showing now. So, I thought the core beneath Cyclops Big Treasure might be a spiritual body creature.”

The dark sphere squinted its eyes, seemingly assessing whether Angel’s words were true.

A few seconds later, the dark sphere softly said: ”Both true and false, I don’t like guessing which part is true or false.”

Angel was startled, not expecting the dark sphere could directly judge the truth of words?

Clearly, there was no fluctuation like that of a truth spell.

No... right now we’re inside Cyclops Big Treasure, if he wanted to cast a spell to probe, it might indeed be undetectable.

Thinking about this, Angel became slightly more serious. It seems like when speaking, unless necessary, it’s best to avoid overly precise wording...

”Forget it, what I’m called isn’t important to me; you may call me Cyclops Big Treasure, or Ghostie if you wish.” After a pause, the dark sphere added: ”However, let me remind you, if it were Second Treasure instead, you probably wouldn’t fare so well.”

Angel: ”...Would it kill me?”

Cyclops Big Treasure: ”No, it would make you uncomfortable in various ways. For instance, projecting your embarrassing images onto mirrors where your aura passes and where people gather... No matter if you are in the Southern Domain or other worlds, it has the means to pinpoint your aura.”

Angel: ...

The earlier evaluation by the Wise Sovereign of Cyclops Second Treasure was mysterious and profound, and its capabilities were extremely powerful. Now it seems true; rather than physiological death, Second Treasure has learned to cause social death.

Moreover, it’s a grand chase-style social death; even escaping to other worlds wouldn’t evade its tracking.

Mysterious, profound... now we also have to add obsessive.

”Having a peaceful chat with you is indeed my wish, but can you represent the entire team, represent those descendants of Noah?” Cyclops Big Treasure returned to the main topic.

Angel: ”Of course I can. Since I’m here, it means I can represent the others. If you don’t believe me, Ghostie, you can ask this apprentice beside me.”

Cyclops Big Treasure paused for about two seconds, probably not expecting Angel would actually call it Ghostie.

And previously, it had said the name didn’t matter, so now it couldn’t take back its words and just pretended not to hear.

”What you say is true, I acknowledge it. But before chatting with you, I need you to answer a question.”

Angel: ”You want to ask me how I know you are Cyclops Big Treasure?”

Cyclops Big Treasure’s expression was complicated, and it took a while to say: ”...Yes.”

Angel: ”The Wise Sovereign once said that the three children of You Nu each have different personalities, and you can basically determine who you are through personality.”

Cyclops Big Treasure really wanted to ask: But I hadn’t even spoken before, how did you judge our personalities?

However, before Cyclops Big Treasure could ask, Angel seemed to have anticipated this and directly answered: ”Cyclops Little Treasure is impatient and wouldn’t drag us into here just to observe without speaking for a long time. Cyclops Second Treasure, although I’m not very familiar with its actions, from the Wise Sovereign’s description, if it were to observe, it would definitely do so in the dark rather than staying in this space waiting for us to notice.”

”Eliminating the other two, that only leaves Cyclops Big Treasure, which is you, Ghostie.” Angel paused: ”Moreover, the Wise Sovereign also said before that you agreed to help pass on the memories of the Grey Merchant, although everything must wait until after passing through You Nu’s challenge to be successful, but the closer we get to the Wise Sovereign’s great hall, the more I think, we are about to face You Nu, and Ghostie should also appear.”

”With this preparation in mind, so when you appeared, it was expected.”

The reason Angel gave was judged true by Cyclops Big Treasure. However, what it didn’t know was that while Angel’s reasons were all true, he hadn’t mentioned all of them. For example, the actual basis for judging Cyclops Big Treasure’s identity was actually derived from Hyper Perception, something he didn’t mention at all.

Cyclops Big Treasure: ”Your answer is true, I accept your answer. So now, we can talk peacefully...”

Angel: ”Wait.”

Cyclops Big Treasure looked at Angel in confusion; wasn’t it Angel who suggested having a talk, so why did he call a halt suddenly?

Angel: ”I just answered your question, so for fairness, shouldn’t you answer one of mine?”

Cyclops Big Treasure didn’t speak, just used its one eye to signal Angel to ask.

”Among all of us, why did you choose him?” Angel pointed at Kaier.

Even though so many people were walking together, Cyclops Big Treasure chose to take Kaier. If Angel hadn’t discovered it promptly and followed in, Kaier’s situation would now be uncertain.

So, Angel wanted to know why Cyclops Big Treasure chose Kaier first?
