Chapter 2780: Chapter 2781: Awakening Again

Angel: ”I have one last question... Rather than a question, it’s more of a personal request.”

Laplace raised an eyebrow and gazed at Angel: ”A request?”

Angel: ”Previously, you mentioned that if a living person enters the world within the mirror, they would inevitably lose direction without a guide.”

Laplace nodded: ”Yes, I did say that.”

Angel: ”I’m quite interested in the world inside the mirror. In the future, I might conduct research on it as a subject. I wonder, could I invite Laplace to be my guide at that time?”

Angel had already thought it through: if Laplace agreed, it would count as a request. He would then provide the second ”answer” as a form of recompense.

The first answer was undoubtedly the Blood Night Shelter; and the second answer, which Angel had also anticipated, was... the Wilderness of Dreams.

The impression Laplace gave was not of a complex-minded creature. Moreover, her isolated and long-dormant environment perfectly matched the conditions of the Wilderness of Dreams.

It can be said that this would not only expand the ”talents” of the Wilderness of Dreams, but also conveniently allow Angel to mark Laplace’s location via the authority of the Wilderness of Dreams.

Angel thought far ahead, but Laplace showed no inclination to cooperate.

Laplace said lightly: ”This is your last question... hmm, request?”

Angel nodded. Although he had many questions in his heart, most of them were like this one, purely to satisfy private desires.

This type of question would be fine in a private chat or a gathering like a Tea Party. But now, wasting everyone’s time just to satisfy his curiosity wasn’t worthwhile.

Laplace: ”No.”

Laplace refused without the slightest hesitation.

The words Angel had prepared were swallowed back under Laplace’s indifferent gaze.

”Then I have no other questions. Now, it’s my turn to give the answer, right? Do you want to hear it now?” As the atmosphere gradually turned stagnant, Angel forcibly steered the conversation back.

Laplace glanced at the slightly awkward-looking Angel, realized her attitude might be too unkind, pondered for a moment, and said: ”My true self won’t leave the Sea of Void Mirror for mundane reasons, and you cannot enter the Sea of Void Mirror.”

From Laplace’s point of view, the so-called guidance Angel mentioned was far too ordinary a reason to make special arrangements, hence her straightforward refusal.

Angel: ”I never intended to go to the Sea of Void Mirror.”

What Angel meant by inviting Laplace as a guide wasn’t to connect with her true self in the Sea of Void Mirror, but her Temporal Body.

Previously, the Wise Sovereign had connected with Laplace to give them a ”surprise,” and the method of connection was certainly not to find her true self but her Temporal Body.

Angel thought that perhaps he could also use this method to contact Laplace.

Laplace understood Angel’s implicit meaning and calmly said: ”As for the Temporal Body... I don’t usually let it leave my true self. My Temporal Body can only continuously absorb new memories in the Sea of Void Mirror.”

Pausing, Laplace looked up at Angel: ”I know, you want to say the Sage also contacted me before. But do you know how the Sage contacted me?”

Angel: ”...You Nu? Cyclops Family?”

Laplace nodded: ”Not too dull.”

”It was Cyclops Second Treasure who came to find me.” Laplace said: ”It came to the Sea of Void Mirror and communicated with me.”

At this point, Laplace added a little more: ”Compared to the First and Third Treasures, the Second Treasure is more mysterious. It says it can only hover above the Sea of Void Mirror and can’t dive in, but I know it’s lying.”

”Because of Cyclops Second Treasure’s abilities, it can become a medium for the Sage to contact me. But do you have one?”

Angel... did not.

Or rather, Angel didn’t know if he had one.

Angel’s mind had two options, one being the Mirror Grudge, the other the Void Traveler Heideland. However, the Mirror Grudge had harmed too many people, and Angel couldn’t let it leave.

As for Heideland, it seemed quite suitable. Because Heideland had hardly any ”memories,” the Sea of Void Mirror wouldn’t affect it significantly.

But also because Heideland lacked many memories, had low intelligence, and Angel couldn’t give it complex commands, its sole function was to contact Wang Wang.

If Heideland was indeed unaffected by the Sea of Void Mirror, then perhaps he could work something out with Wang Wang.

However, there were too many uncertainties in this process, especially with Heideland entering an unfamiliar world alone, and its safety needed consideration.

So overall, even if Heideland had a high chance of success, Angel would consider it carefully.

Seeing Angel remain silent, Laplace knew the answer. She didn’t mock Angel, just said lightly, ”I remember the shadow memory in the mask. If in the future you somehow reach the Sea of Void Mirror with the mask, I’ll have my Temporal Body follow the shadow memory’s aura to find you.”

With this, Laplace didn’t continue.

She didn’t make any requests, as she didn’t believe Angel would find a way to reach the Sea of Void Mirror safely. If he truly reached the Sea of Void Mirror, he’d likely lose all memories within seconds to the omnipresent ”waves,” turning into an Empty-hearted Person.

At that time, Laplace, out of courtesy today, could send Angel back to reality. Only, he’d probably have to relearn how to be a person from the basics.

Though Laplace didn’t think highly of Angel, she still left him a way out, so Angel sincerely expressed his gratitude.

Afterward, Angel prepared to tell Laplace the ”answer.” However, Laplace spoke first.

”Since you’ve finished asking your questions, let me fulfill my promise now,” Laplace said.

Angel paused and quickly realized that the promise Laplace mentioned was... a parting message.

Angel wanted to say ”it doesn’t matter,” but after contemplating, he kept silent.

Laplace’s gaze first fell on Angel’s shoulder, where Dangross, in fist form, stood upright on the shoulder.

Its fist form wasn’t meant to show off; according to Dangross, it was ”cultivation.”

However, to Angel, when the fist clenched, with the face in the palm tightly enclosed by fingers, it looked more like an eye cover suited for sleeping.

Of course, this was merely Angel’s jest. Sleeping wasn’t possible, but slacking off might be.

”Its mind is changing.” Laplace pointed at Dangross.

”Is this a gift?”

Not only Angel was puzzled, but others were too. Laplace’s gifts before were not long-winded speeches? How come it’s so straightforward now.

Laplace was silent for a moment: ”...It relates to you, so I can’t see much information.”

Everyone suddenly understood, Dangross’s ”gift” happened to be connected to Angel, so what Laplace could see was limited, naturally she couldn’t elaborate or provide a comprehensive definition.

Angel didn’t know how to respond either, after racking his brains, he only managed to say: ”Uh... as long as you do your best.”

Perhaps Angel’s ”comfort” was overly blunt, causing Laplace’s form to waver slightly, her chest heaving noticeably.

After a while, Laplace finally ”sorted” her emotions, her gaze moving down to the second ”living thing” on Angel’s body—Wood Spirit.

”...It made a choice it believes is right.” After a long pause, Laplace reluctantly uttered Wood Spirit’s gift. The gift was simple, like Dangross’s, a description of Wood Spirit’s inner thoughts.

Most likely, it also related to Angel, so there was nothing to be reflected, she had to gloss over it.

By this point, Angel had completely lost confidence in Laplace’s gifts. These gifts were even less sophisticated than White Bear’s rhetoric.

However, despite his thoughts, Angel outwardly remained polite. After Laplace finished, he nodded along, appearing enlightened.

Finally, Laplace turned her gaze to the last ”living thing” on Angel—Earl Mi.

Laplace examined Earl Mi closely. However, no one held expectations and instead, they began chatting in the Mind Ribbon while Laplace observed Earl Mi.

”Is what she calls the Reflection of the Heart a prophecy?” Vay asked curiously, ”I feel like she actually mentioned me just now.”

”What? Do you see yourself as ’the solitary one hiding among the crowd’?” Dox raised an eyebrow, ”It’s just a metaphor, don’t forget when we first met, you wrote so many love poems for that person and lamented so many nights. I remember you came to me crying in the middle of the night to vent. Looking back now, isn’t it embarrassing?”

Vay: ”...Those two things have nothing to do with each other, okay?”

Vay squinted at Dox: ”You’re just trying to bring up these things, aren’t you?”

It must be said, Vay and Dox indeed are old friends, with a little thought, Vay hit the nail on the head.

However, Dox showed no embarrassment once his intent was revealed, instead saying boldly: ”I remember a customer in my tavern once told me a theory. Embarrassment can be covered by even more embarrassment.”

”Weren’t you embarrassed when you were invaded by the fungus barrier? Now I tell an even more embarrassing story, doesn’t it cover the previous embarrassment?”

Vay was already deliberately trying to forget the incident, but when Dox mentioned it, it felt like another arrow directly to his chest.

And what embarrassment conceals embarrassment? This isn’t right, it’s just double embarrassment!

”This is simply... nonsense.”

Dox: ”Nonsense? Angel, do you think it’s nonsense?”

If Angel answered yes, it may support Vay but simultaneously admit Vay’s awkward trouble with the fungus barrier. If he answered no, it would seem as if he endorses such logic. Answering either way, Angel wouldn’t benefit.

Caught in this trap designed by Dox to drag him in, Angel chose...

”Instead of debating meaningless arguments, let’s talk about your future plans. Do you want to follow me to Barbarian Cave, or join me to Illusion Demon Island?”

Angel seriously stared at Dox, hinting: Don’t forget, you still owe me a debt.

Dox, originally cheerful, froze as if thunderstruck when he heard Angel’s words ... what’s the difference between Barbarian Cave and Illusion Demon Island?

Previously, Vay was the one being critically hit, now Dox was the one defensively broken.

And the critically hit Vay had started regaining some composure, even having energy left to laugh at Dox, while Dox was still frozen on the spot...

After Angel put an end to the debate in the Mind Ribbon with one sentence, Laplace regained herself from her observation.

She pondered for a moment and softly said: ”The demon people dreaming of awakening again, the past is gone, guardianship becomes ruin, history turns to ash, only in the chaotic embers might one glimpse a faint chance of rebirth.”

This time, Laplace returned to her previous style of gifting. Perhaps because she repeatedly failed with Dangross and Wood Spirit, Laplace not only defined Earl Mi but also, surprisingly, offered ”advice.”

Literally, Angel understood the words.

But the deeper meaning beneath the literal surface, Angel was still confused.

Laplace referred to Earl Mi as: the demon person dreaming of awakening again.

Angel knew each word. But... what did it mean?

Awakening seemed like a good term. But in the Panic Realm, it was a deadly term.

Panic Realm has many monsters with energy levels similar to those in the Wizards’ Realm, the power of monsters is evident. Yet, Panic Realm has no extraordinary system like wizards; the only way intelligent beings there survive against monsters is to become monsters themselves.

Seal the monsters within their bodies, becoming ”demon people”, using monster strength to defeat monsters, guarding their kin’s safety.

But monster power is ultimately not their own. Once the power exceeds its limit, it ”awakens”.

Awakened demon people can be entirely new monsters, even stronger than monsters. They have no emotions, no ties, not even kinship.

One moment the demon people protect their kin, the next moment the awakened demon people prey on them.

In the Panic Realm, awakening is a forbidden term.

Awakening represents a farewell to humanity.

And Earl Mi is an awakened demon person.

An already awakened demon person, how in Laplace’s gift, became... ”the demon person dreaming of awakening again.”

How, could demon people blossom twice, awaken twice?
