Warlock Apprentice

Time flew, and it was the next day.

Angel had talked with Sanders all night about the energy structure of the Wilderness of Dreams. He was about to return to his room to continue his research on supplemental transformation techniques when his communicator received a message from Glenn.

Twenty minutes later, Angel arrived at Hong Kui Square.

Hong Kui Square was situated on the edge of the main city area, a street leaning toward mortal shops, with many items for mortals’ daily lives as well as mortal residential areas. It was also the place with the highest vegetation coverage within the main city area of the Sky Mechanical City.

In a hidden grove, Angel found Glenn.

Glenn was sitting on a treetop, lost in thought. Below the tree, Allen was looking around anxiously. When he saw Angel, Allen’s eyes suddenly lit up.

”Where is the destroyed Magic Energy Eye?” Angel asked. He received Glenn’s message hoping that he could help dismantle a Magic Energy Eye.

”I have it here.” Glenn jumped down from the treetop and handed a silver-white metallic sphere to Angel.

As Angel took it and started to examine it, he asked about the situation.

Glenn explained, ”Here’s what happened...”

Turning back time to last evening, Glenn used his connections to seek clues of Irene’s whereabouts from all quarters. After spending an entire day searching, he finally caught a fleeting glimpse of Irene in the records of a Magic Energy Eye.

Irene appeared near the entrance of Hong Kui Square’s street at that time.

Judging by her direction, it seemed she was planning to enter Hong Kui Square.

”We previously asked around near the entrance of this street and found a member of the Enforcement Squad nearby. Through the recollection of his memories, he confirmed that he had seen Irene entering Hong Kui Square during the early part of the Drizzling Rain Month,” Allen also added.

However, when they entered Hong Kui Square to continue their search for Irene’s whereabouts, they encountered a problem.

The Hong Kui Square leaned toward a mortal area, and there were no Enforcement Squad members nearby on normal days. There were only ten Magic Energy Eyes patrolling in total. They checked the Magic Energy Eyes and found that none of them had recorded Irene’s figure.

Just when Allen was about to go door to door to make inquiries in Hong Kui Square, Glenn noticed something wrong; during the Drizzling Rain Month, the records of the Magic Energy Eyes in Hong Kui Square showed eleven. It was only in the Blazing Fire Month that the number of Magic Energy Eyes in Hong Kui Square was reduced to ten. It could be that the area Irene went to was precisely the one Magic Energy Eye zone they had overlooked.

Continuing their investigation, they discovered that it was not a reduction of Magic Energy Eyes in Hong Kui Square, but rather one of them had malfunctioned.

In the latter part of the Drizzling Rain Month, when the New Star Competition had just started, many competitors were rushing from all places, and there were not a few individuals like Sharley who only added to the chaos, leading to daily street fights during that time.

With fights taking place so frequently, the Magic Energy Eyes, responsible for recording and enforcement, naturally became targets of displeasure for both sides of the fight, so the proportion of damaged Magic Energy Eyes was extremely high during that time.

For Hong Kui Square, which leans toward the mortal area, only one out of eleven Magic Energy Eyes being damaged was already considered very fortunate.

And what Glenn and his party were looking for was this damaged Magic Energy Eye.

”Although this Magic Energy Eye is no longer usable, according to mechanical laws, the damaged Magic Energy Eye will be taken to the processing plant for remelting. It cannot be leaked outside, so I sneaked this one out of the processing plant,” Glenn said in a lowered voice: ”Inside the Magic Energy Eye is a Photostone, which should contain a memory core. Through the memory core, perhaps we can find the records from the Drizzling Rain Month. However—”

”I’m not really good at Alchemy, and the Magic Energy Eye is extremely intricate, so I daren’t disassemble it recklessly... and since it was sneaked out, I couldn’t let other Alchemists know, so I had no choice but to contact Lord Pat.”

After finishing his explanation, Glenn raised his head, and through the dense foliage, he could vaguely see the bustling situation outside with Magic Energy Eyes fluttering about.

”We should have been the ones to go find the lord, but when I stole the Magic Energy Eye, its energy hadn’t been cut off yet, causing the processing plant to notice the disappearance of the Magic Energy Eye, and they dispatched a large number of Magic Energy Eyes to pursue the matter. By the time I turned off the energy of the Magic Energy Eye, I had already been pinpointed by them, and we had no choice but to hide here and wait for the lord to come.”

Glenn looked much more disheveled than usual, clearly having gone through a lot to help Irene.

Allen looked at Glenn with an apologetic expression.

”I see, so I just need to dismantle this, and extract the memory core of the Magic Energy Eye, right?” Angel didn’t bother with the details and asked for the conclusion directly.

Glenn nodded: ”Yes.”

”Alright.” Without further ado, Angel started using his spiritual power to probe the Magic Energy Eye. Speaking of which, he was also quite interested in this alchemy device akin to the ”Wizard’s Eye,” or else he wouldn’t have come to Hong Kui Square so promptly.

While Angel was inspecting it, a Magic Energy Eye outside had detected this hidden small grove.

With Angel’s identity, even if he were discovered by the Magic Energy Eye, nothing would come of it. However, to avoid trouble, Angel still cast an Illusion Technique to conceal the situation here.

It took Angel half an hour to basically understand the construction of the Magic Energy Eye.

However, the Magic Energy Eye, being a unique device from Sky Mechanical City, had such a complex interior and ingenious design that Angel couldn’t help but praise it repeatedly.

Particularly, the Energy Furnace, Enforcement Thunder Zone, Micro Signal Tower, and the logic core were immensely complicated. The Micro Signal Tower even had an energy reserve. If Glenn were to dismantle it, the Signal Tower would inevitably send out a message to the main Signal Tower as he opened it, and at the same time, it would activate the Energy Furnace and Enforcement Thunder Zone, causing the Magic Energy Eye to self-destruct.

Thus, a non-professional dismantling it would not only be in danger from the self-destruction of the Magic Energy Eye but would also be discovered.

Glenn did the right thing by seeking out Angel.

However, Angel didn’t dare to touch the sections near the Micro Signal Tower now, since they were too complicated, and complete disassembly would require corresponding professional tools.

Fortunately, the memory core that Glenn was looking for was not near the Micro Signal Tower section. Even if Angel dismantled it, it wouldn’t trigger any reaction.

It took half an hour to inspect, but only two minutes to actually extract the memory core.

Upon obtaining the memory core, Glenn immediately began searching through the memory images within. Unfortunately, without the logic core, Glenn could only access the Photostones inside and check them one by one.

Luckily, they were looking for recent memories. It only took a little over twenty minutes for Glenn to find the recordings from the early part of the moist moon month.

Allen had already gathered around Glenn, starting to look at the previous month’s Photostone records.

Since Angel had come anyway, he did not leave immediately but waited to see where Irene ended up going last.

As the gentle breeze blew and the dappled shadows of the trees flickered, Angel leisurely enjoyed a moment of time.

”Found it! Indeed, Irene had come to the area patrolled by the Magic Energy Eye!” Allen’s exclamations of surprise broke the tranquility.

Angel’s gaze also turned to the image released by the memory core, which showed a segment of the recording—

It was clear to see that the Magic Energy Eye was patrolling the sky. Below, Hong Kui Square was bustling with people, and as most of them were mortals, it looked just like any other mortal marketplace.

Without much intention, Irene walked into this place.

Because of her standout looks and aura, as soon as Irene appeared in the image, Allen spotted her.

The Magic Energy Eye did not scrutinize Irene closely, but its panoramic recording had laid out Irene’s trail of actions for all to see.

After Irene arrived in Hong Kui Square, she only visited one place, and after coming out of that place, she left the Square.

And that place was an unremarkable little shop.
