Warlock Apprentice

Chapter 1399: Section 1400: Perish

Kimberly arranged for several wizards to treat the injured. Upon examination, it was found that although the injured witches looked quite miserable, they did not sustain life-threatening harm and could regain combat capability after a brief period of recovery.

Of course, a full recovery would require an extended period of rest.

When the injured had mostly recovered, Kimberly said with a stern expression, “When I went out to scout alone before, I saw some undead aggregates, but not this many. As soon as we came out together, these aggregates immediately emerged and, without hesitation, detonated themselves… This is highly unusual.”

A witch nodded and agreed, “It seems Natasha was right, all the surrounding nodes must have been discovered by the Origin of Chaos, and heavy ambushes were set.”

“Not only that, they also adapt their force based on our numbers. When we are alone, they use a smaller force to deal with us, but when we gather, they launch a large-scale assault,” someone else added.

“With the muddled consciousness of the undead, it’s absolutely impossible for them to do this. It must be the Origin of Chaos behind all this.”

Everyone’s expressions were filled with indignation, as it was clear that the undead intended to completely trap them in the Soul Realm.

While this tactic might not be able to confine them, the official wizards, it was quite fatal for ordinary apprentices.

As they expressed their anger, Sanders suddenly said, “Think about it differently. She has been watching you from the shadows all along, hasn’t she? Otherwise, how could she have caused such a wide-range attack so timely?”

His words made everyone pause for a moment.

Indeed.

If it was simply a matter of adjusting their force based on numbers, just massing a huge number of undead would have been sufficient to deal with them.

But this time, the enemy used nearly a hundred undead aggregate entities. Clearly, it wasn’t just about numbers, but also about scale!

Assessing the scale of opposition is something the chaotic thinking of the undead would find difficult to gauge; therefore, the only possibility is that the Origin of Chaos has been observing them from the shadows the whole time.

Upon this realization, someone said, “Does that mean the Origin of Chaos isn’t far from us and has been hiding herself using some special ability?”

Her suggestion met with nods of agreement. However, even if they knew the Origin of Chaos might be observing them nearby, as long as the adversary did not act rashly, it would be difficult to pinpoint her exact location.

People couldn’t help but look towards the few True Knowledge Wizards present, wondering if they might have noticed something earlier.

Kimberly spoke first, “No, that person’s hiding technique is very sophisticated. I didn’t notice her.”

Sanders and Isabella both shook their heads as well. Sanders had not paid much attention to the environment, while Isabella, although vigilant, had not detected anyone hiding.

Without any useful information, everyone fell into silence.

Angel, however, thought of the strange undead he had encountered before. Still, that was a pure undead, not a semi-undead nor a daughter of King Gumman, so it probably wasn’t related to this situation.

Kimberly said, “Since it’s a matter of scaling, she must see our faces to decide which attack method to use. If she isn’t nearby, then there’s only one other possibility.”

“She could be watching from a distance.”

This was the deep forest. To observe from a distance, there must be a high point. And now, there was only one place left that offered such a view!

Everyone looked up, all gazing at the same direction.

In the dim environment where dark clouds churned, one could only make out the distant contours of undulating high ground through the naked eye; the details were not clear.

Just at that moment, a playful Lightning Serpent, slipping through the clouds, plummeted from the sky.

The white light generated in that instant illuminated the shadowy undulating contours brightly.

There, on the rugged mountain peak, a multitude of undead roamed the vicinity, and behind them, a ghastly black castle stood proudly at the summit!

The oppressive dark clouds and the frolicsome Lightning Serpents were also swirling and playing around the castle’s top.

This was clearly the outer part of Black Castle exposed on the surface!

Expressions of disbelief crossed everyone’s faces.

If Kimberly’s speculation was correct, and the Origin of Chaos was observing them from afar, then this place was the only possibility—

“This person can’t really be hiding inside Black Castle, can they?” someone uttered incredulously.

If that were true, it wasn’t just a slap in the face; it was akin to trampling and grinding on their faces!

The real people of Black Castle were cowering underground, trembling with fear. Yet, the daughter of King Gumman, the Origin of Chaos, was brazenly wandering within Black Castle. The contrast couldn’t be starker!

“Not necessarily, perhaps her hiding technique is very advanced, and she’s nearby. If she really is in Black Castle, it’s also possible she’s hiding among those numerous undead,” said Kimberly, with a somewhat grim expression.

“Isn’t it just a matter of checking behind the undead to know?” Angel, who had remained silent until this point, spoke up.

Isabel also nodded, “Angel is right. It’s better to go and see for ourselves rather than speculate here. Even if it really is inside Black Castle, it’s not a big deal.”

“Angel, all you need to do is cleanse the undead, and be careful about your safety. The others, follow the original plan and keep watch nearby, making sure not to let the undead conglomerates get close to Angel.”

As Isabel’s command was given, everyone scattered, with Isabel’s apprentices and Kimberly taking to the skies for surveillance.

Sanders also went to keep watch around the area, and now within a hundred meters, Angel was the only person left.

Angel was not afraid, holding the Samsara Overture, he headed out of Black Forest.

The undead in this vicinity were sparse; Angel encountered only two or three undead as he walked out of the forest, and those had not even come close to him before they were taken care of by the surrounding witches.

Angel’s main targets were the clustered undead.

Soon, he walked out of Black Forest, and the cemetery where Hua Que had been could be seen not far away.

There was a road outside the cemetery, twisting all the way up to Black Castle on the mountaintop. There, the number of undead began to slowly increase.

Just by casually glancing to either side of the road, one could see a large number of mournfully weeping undead.

Some withered trees, shone faintly in the darkness, appearing quite beautiful. But upon closer inspection, one would find that this so-called light was actually the faint glow of the undead themselves. The undead sat on branches, perched on leaves, leaned against trunks weeping or huddled beneath trees shivering and whispering.

These undead exhibited a pitiable essence of dark wind before being disturbed.

But upon approaching them, even without making contact, they would instantly transform from resentful “women” into ghastly and terrifying avengers.

Angel simply walked on the main road, and the undead, flying or running, came rushing toward him without any provocation on his part.

With such a large number of undead, the outermost witches no longer took action, simply dealing with any potential undead conglomerates, leaving the rest to break through the encirclement and face Angel.

Faced with the undead swarming from all directions, Angel calmly lifted the Samsara Overture, and as a ripple spread from the muzzle of the gun, diffusing through the air, all the undead’s movements halted the moment the ripples touched them.

Then, a gust of cold wind swept by, and an approximate hundred statue-like undead all turned into points of light, dissipating completely.

Seeing this scene, those who had been worried before, including Kimberly and the other witches, also breathed a sigh of relief. To be able to cleanse so many undead at once, and it seemed that the efficiency of the cleansing had not even peaked yet!

Perhaps it really was possible to cleanse all the undead that had accumulated in Black Castle over a millennium with the Samsara Overture.

At the thought of this possibility, even the witches who had been pessimistic about the mission were now unable to suppress their excitement.

Not only were the surrounding witches excited, but Angel was also quite thrilled. Except for the Sea of Ghosts, only Black Castle could gather so many undead, allowing him to collect White Light Bullets without restraint.

The Samsara Overture, without White Light Bullets, was really just a handy Alchemy Weapon. But with White Light Bullets, it deserved to be called a Half-step Mystic.

Angel pushed forward towards Black Castle at the top of the ridge, taking the direct route without any detours.

After all, with the witches handling the dangerous undead conglomerates, all he needed to do was cleanse the undead, which was relatively much safer.

Wave after wave of undead surged like a tide.

Angel’s cleansing was remarkably quick; in just over ten minutes, he successfully gathered a White Light Bullet!

This meant he had killed well over two thousand undead.

This efficiency once again ignited the emotions of the surrounding witches, and even Isabella, who had always been lowkey, felt somewhat relieved now. It was a good thing that the mentor had stepped forward that day, getting Angel to agree to cleanse the undead with the Samsara Overture.

Otherwise, if it were as she had said that day, to cleanse them slowly by herself, eradicating two thousand undead would have taken at least half a month!

And to completely eliminate the undead of Black Castle, the time needed would be incalculable.

Isabella sighed softly as she watched the rapidly dissipating undead, reminding her of the words Isabel had once told her, “The existence of an Alchemist is a treasure for any witcher organization.”

The Samsara Overture that Angel had crafted years before could help Black Castle solve its current dilemma, not to mention, Angel had now become a member of the research institute.

Indeed, becoming adversaries with such an Alchemist was unwise.

But, Isabella also knew, it would be difficult to mend the relationship with Angel once more.

Now, the only way was to lower her presence in Angel’s eyes, allowing Isabel and Kimberly to interact with him. Perhaps, that would be most beneficial for the future of Black Castle.
