Villain Extra: Rogue Reader

Ray publicly accepting the bribery from Michelle caused many to look at him with weird glances.

Where are your principles?

Seriously, this adopted son really had no bottom line whatsoever.

Shortly after the rest of them left the room to get prepared for departure, the wives began discussing among themselves again.

”To think she would buy a slot for her son...” Paula shook her head.

”Well, it helps when her background is rich enough,” Yerena said in disdain.

”Rich and have a superior background.” Paula corrected. The two of them were of noble status, too, but when compared to Michelle, they were indeed a bit inferior.

”You do realize I’m still here, right?” Michelle snapped and glared at them.

Both Paula and Yerena paused for a second as they stared at each other, then back at Michelle.

”Of course, we know.” They said simultaneously.

”We said it here purposely so you can hear it,” Paula said innocently.

”Besides, it’s the truth, so why would we be hiding elsewhere to discuss it?” Yerena continued.

”...”

Michelle was rendered speechless by these two shameless women. ”Hmph, you two are acting like you wouldn’t do the same.”

”Why would I do the same? My daughter is such a treasure.” Paula shrugged in amusement. She was proud of her daughter, and maybe the only thing she was worried about was her future marital life.

Given her daughter’s strong temperament and strength, it was hard to find anyone suitable to even match her.

The Lord also indulged her and refused to interfere with her marital status because she made the Carrion surname proud, unlike his other offspring.

”Then what about you?” Michelle was too lazy to even argue with Paula, so she shifted to Yerena.

”Your son became his lackey. Are you proud of that?”

”I mean like... my son somehow became more obedient. I can’t deceive myself and say he turned for the worse.” Yerena smiled cheekily.

”Indeed, I’ve heard he woke up early today and was diligent in his training.” Paula chimed in and spoke of the changes.

Although she was still hostile to the adopted son, it wasn’t that much compared to the previous one.

At the very least, he was outspoken and wasn’t pretentious like most people they had met.

None of them brought this topic up because they were sure everyone already knew about this aspect. Being the Lord’s wife meant having to deal with many hypocritical people who always want to steal a bit of their Lord’s status and influence.

”Have they departed?” Michelle snapped her fingers and questioned.

Swoosh!

Like a shadow who had emerged from out of nowhere, dressed in full black, the person nodded.

”Yes, the Young Masters have boarded a carriage and departed from the mansion.” They reported.

”Good, make sure to keep a close eye on them. The Lord intends for this to be their trial, so unless they are in critical danger, you are not to interfere.” Michelle said coolly.

As the main wife, how could she not understand Robert’s intention for choosing Ray as the leader in charge of the assignment?

It was not only for him to validate himself as a member of the Carrion Household, but also a trial to see how he would perform in an actual event.

”Yes, Madam!” The shadow received the order and vanished from the spot.

...

Route 67

At Route 67, Ray and the others were in one big carriage as they prepared their journey to Moonrock Town.

”What are you doing here?” Ray was lying comfortably on the couch himself as he glanced at the uninvited Skylar.

”My brother is here, so of course, I’m following along.” Skylar shrugged.

”That’s a pretty lame excuse. Jake also has a sister, but she didn’t come along.”

”Are you sure?” Skylar suddenly sneered and cast a canceling spell.

BAM!

Although the canceling spell was active, there was a spot that seemed to have deflected the spell.

Even though there was nothing revealed, the fact that it had been deflected made it obvious someone was here.

And sure enough, the person no longer concealed themselves.

”Jeanette...” Ray twitched his mouth in disbelief. No wonder the carriage seemed a bit crammed and suffocating despite being so big.

In the end, all of them tagged along anyway, regardless of the Lord’s permission.

Just when he was about to charge them a fee, the carriage suddenly came to a halt.

”Hmm?” Ray and the rest soon became alerted. Since he had managed to gain a magic core, his senses and perceptions had been heightened.

”Seems like some fools wish to die...” Jake exhaled deeply, his eyes glinting in a cold light.

Outside the carriage, a group of Carrion’s soldiers raised their weapons toward the incoming people.

”Halt your steps!” One of them shouted loudly.

The incoming people were dressed in ragged clothes, their bodies extremely skinny. They ignored the calling and seemed intent on charging toward the carriage.

”A big carriage like this definitely has a lot of food. We can feed our kids!”

”Our kids are waiting for us to have the food!”

”Charge ahead!”

”Refugees?” Ray muttered. His first deduction based on these people’s muttering and appearance was that they should have been the refugees who were forced to flee their living place.

Before he could comprehend further, Jake subsequently rushed out of the carriage and brandished his weapon. ”Hmph, a bunch of uncultured swine dared to rob a noble’s carriage! You even dared to dream of stealing the food?”

’Not good!’ Ray quickly realized what Jake intended to do.

Without hesitation, he got up from his spot and placed his hand on Jake’s shoulder.

”Belva, cast sleeping magic on the group of ruffians!” He ordered, addressing these refugees as ruffians to keep up his villain act.

”What is the meaning of this?” Jake’s eyes flared up. To rob a noble’s carriage on an official route so openly was equivalent to a death sentence. He had the absolute justification to kill them on the spot.

”Do you think this is all of them?” Ray narrowed his eyes.

”Our distance from Moonrock Town isn’t that far, so for them to reach all the way here meant that there should be more of these. If you kill them all, how can we explain to the Lord?”

They were here to resolve the issues, and not here to commit massacres.
