The Versatile Master Artist

”Now, let’s hand the microphone over to Jerry.”

The bright spotlight sweeping overhead interrupted Gu Weijing’s brief contemplation over the art piece.

The infrastructure construction of private schools is quite good.

In order to rehearse the Shakespeare play in the English grammar class and the song and dance program for the social dance, the school auditorium has a set of spotlights above that can be rotated specially.

At some point,

The spotlights above the auditorium turned on, the light beam swept through the crowd in the upper grades, and finally stopped right on the head of the boy standing a few rows in front of Gu Weijing.

The lights elsewhere in the auditorium went out, leaving the only figure standing in the light.

The main point guard of the basketball school team, now proudly basking in the focus of his classmates’ attention, his curls dyed golden, shining brightly under the spotlight as if brushed with glitter powder.

”Thank you, thank you for your encouragement. I just wanted to offer a bit of love to the street’s stray pets, that’s all.”

While Jerry grandly claimed that he just wanted to do good deeds, and winning an award was merely incidental and not worth mentioning, he bowed to his classmates who were applauding him from all directions.

It looked quite like an Oscar awards ceremony.

Screams from the girls and whistles from the boys continuously echoed throughout the auditorium.

”Please, no need to be modest. In the past ten years of my teaching, few students from our school have received such high-spec media coverage. This not only reflects Fitz High School’s motto of ’Innovation, Freedom, and Love,’ but also showcases the noble spirit of the Fitz People...”

This award ceremony was particularly high in caliber.

Following the philosophy of student-led schooling, the education group sent the elderly Canadian principal stationed from North America in Myanmar, who was rarely seen on stage, wanting to say a few words at such an event.

The old principal received the microphone from the female student council president and quickly walked along the aisle between the tiered seats to Jerry’s side.

The old gentleman, while patting Jerry’s shoulder and smiling, held the microphone and preached Fitz’s philosophy of education management.

The campus communication association’s journalist crouched in front of the auditorium seats, holding up a Nikon DSLR, with the flash continuously flickering.

The old principal seemed deliberately trying to create some kind of dramatic stage effect.

His tone suddenly paused for a few seconds, then he took out a small box from his pocket to show everyone.

”...Here, I want to announce a decision. The Fitz Group headquarters has given high praise for the pet euthanasia initiative established by Jerry. After contacting the Scout Association in London, UK, to commend Jerry Lorenz’s charitable acts, they specially awarded a First Level Love Badge as encouragement.”

The tin-plated medal with the golden retriever dog’s face in the box reflected a metallic sheen under the spotlight.

Woah—

”What is that?”

”Scout Love Badge.”

”What level, did I hear it wrong? First level?”

”Yes, just first level, the highest honor of the Scouts, same as Beckham, Mandela, Neil Armstrong, and the royal Duke of Cambridge. The boss is about to fly high.”

The badge looks like a child’s toy, yet all the students showed expressions of amazement and envy.

The reporter crouching in the front from the school communication association nearly smoked from pressing the camera shutter rapidly.

The Scouts are the world’s largest and most influential youth activity organization, covering roughly three hundred million young people aged 4-25 from various countries worldwide.

Its content includes outdoor physical training, daily social welfare, attending science popularization lectures, and more.

This social activity method was founded and invented in the late nineteenth century by University of Oxford’s Professor Robert. For his outstanding contributions to child education, he was also awarded the title of Sir by the King of England.

The Scout project is always part of Western-style campus social activity culture.

Even though the reputation of the Scouts has plummeted in recent years due to frequent child molestation scandals.

Even the United States Scout Association went bankrupt due to these scandals, but it’s still the world’s largest underage social activity organization.

Dongxia’s students generally need to register as community volunteers during holidays.

Foreign students often participate in Scout activities from a young age.

Myanmar actually has its own national Scout official organization,

but all Fitz students will register to become more ”authentic” British Scout members, and related social activities are organized every academic year.

This is also an important promotional item on the international school’s campus homepage.

The dog badge awarded to Jerry by the old principal, don’t mind its childishly ridiculous appearance, is one of the highest honors a student under Western education can achieve during high school.

Just like a soldier’s medal of honor.

”I heard that a senior from Fitz Egypt Cairo Campus got a First Level Scout badge a few years ago, and Yale gave a full scholarship when applying to university.”

”Tch, so what’s that. I read in the Sunday Weekly’s news that a guy from Portugal, relying on the prestige of the high-level Scout badge, slept with a quarter of the entire summer camp’s gals who wanted to date him during the student holidays.”

”...Impressive.”

Even the classmates who usually disregarded Jerry shut their mouths obediently in front of this First Level Honor Badge.
