The Ultimate Evolution

The reason why Reef dared to say so was naturally because he was an MT himself, so he was not afraid of Steel File’s explosive shield throwing ability. Moreover, Reef’s ‘Cardiac Shattering Roar’ was actually an insane AoE ability in its own right, especially so now that it had gained precedence. Once Steel File was slowed down, he would find it difficult to get rid of Reef.

Sheyan smirked. “No hurry. They’re at least five kilometers away from the destination, and that’s just the distance in a straight line. We’ve laid down six “Seeder” defence systems along the way as well as various other traps and firing points. This guy isn’t showing any weakness now, but that’s only because he’s not tired enough. When he gets tired…hmph, then we’ll see.”

At that moment, a yellow signal suddenly flashed. According to what they previously agreed on, a yellow signal was used to denote a very important internal affair, while a red signal denoted an emergency invasion. After the yellow signal was switched on, Major Lee’s excited voice was heard.

“Mr. Seaman, after Dr. W drank your vodka just now, he fell asleep for a while. When he woke up, his mind felt a lot clearer and his thoughts felt more orderly. With the help of the vodka, he’s solved the final problem that had been troubling him. Now, all that remains are some complicated calculations and tedious work. You only need to buy him another hour and a half, and the research will be complete!”

Sheyan laughed. Now, the pressure on Rocky had gotten even heavier. When someone did things under heavy pressure, they would often commit mistakes that they would not normally make.

“Bro, maybe we can try to bury them alive?” Sanzi suddenly suggested

Sheyan shook his head.

“That probably won’t work. The tunnels they’re in right now are only about 20 meters below the ground. It’s far from deep enough to bury them alive.”

“But more importantly, Rocky’s Gungnir can destroy everything in its path. He probably just doesn’t want to waste the power of his lance right now; it doesn’t mean that he can’t dig his way out of the ground in an emergency. I have a better way to make them give up. The reason why I choose to do what we’re currently doing is because I don’t want to scare them away yet. If there’s a chance, why don’t we try to loot his legendary weapon?”

Only now did Sanzi realise Sheyan’s grand ambition. He immediately stopped talking.

The air in the underground shelter was rather murky at the moment. Many people inside were smoking excitedly. Large billows of light blue smoke interweaved together, almost making the underground shelter seemed like it was on fire. Sheyan closed his eyes and tapped his fingers on the table slowly, as if he was enjoying the second-hand smoke. After about 10 minutes, he asked, “Where are they now?”

“They’ve broken through Area D2 and will soon enter Area D3!” A technician reported.

Sheyan quietly contemplated for a moment before he said, “Those people are advancing really fast. It seems like they’ve adapted to the various traps and ambushes I laid down. Hmph, have you guys prepared what I requested?”

A technician nodded and answered, “It’s ready, sir! We’ve urgently mobilised thirty-seven machines here and put them into operation right away. They should already be able to fulfil your request, sir.”

“Excellent,” Sheyan stood up and narrowed his eyes like a hunter staring at a prey that had fallen into his trap. He stared closely at the images of Rocky’s group on the monitor. They had obviously figured out the patterns with most of the traps, and were thus starting to pick up the pace.

In truth, it was already really fortunate that Sheyan could delay Rocky’s unbelievably powerful team for so long. He could not have done it without the help of the storyline character forces and weapons.

Sheyan smirked seeing the rapid progress of Rocky’s team, “They finally seem to be getting impatient. That’s perfect. This is the best time for us to make a move!”

Five minutes before that, in an underground tunnel three kilometers to the south, Carlos could be heard shouting angrily.

“Damn it, what the hell is happening!? Why is the time limit suddenly reduced to only ninety minutes!? That’s….That’s not fair!”

Of the four remaining members of the hired “Life and Death” party, only two came underground together with Rocky’s party. The other two, who remained outside, were a sniper and an explosive expert. They were obviously unsuited for fighting in underground tunnels, so they had hid themselves in a concealed place outside to act as reinforcements if the need arises.

These hired hands actually wished Rocky would just give up. Rocky had been very generous, and they had already received their payment.

Contrary to Carlos’ anger, Steel File just laughed, unconcerned. “If the time limit for the mission has been shortened, then the reward must have been raised too. The traps the opponent has set up are nothing to worry about. They’re not worth mentioning at all now that we’ve familiarised ourselves with their patterns! We’ll be able to reach the destination in half an hour at most. The Realm is just giving us extra rewards for free!”

But Rocky’s face was grave and hard, like a metallic sculpture. “I keep having a feeling that something’s wrong.”

The Gungnir in his hand flashed with an immersive ray of white light, lucidly illuminating the blue marks on his face which were spreading along the blood vessels.

When Carlos saw Rocky’s expression, he could not help consoling his boss. “Don’t worry, Boss. I think Steel File is right. We probably won’t run into any situation which requires you to use your power anymore, thus aggravating your injury. You must be worried about Bind. But with Steel File here with you, even if he is a Saint of Darkness, he won’t dare to show up. As strong as the Evil Sword Apophis is, it’s still weaker than our powers combined! ”

“That’s where I feel something’s amiss. The last time I fought with Bind, he was going up against my Gungnir with bare hands! I did force him to use all his hidden cards because of that, and that’s great, but I still don’t understand why Bind would give up on his greatest advantage,” replied Rocky with a frown.

“The situation back then was really strange. When I sensed that the dimensional barrier is being broken through by force, I knew right away that it must be Bind, forcefully attempting to teleport regardless of the consequences. Logically speaking, Bind would only do something like that in an emergency situation because he would run the risk of being attacked by the Realms, but when I got there in a hurry, Bind was still in perfect health. And then we started fighting.”

“That is weird,” Steel File also expressed his concern after listening to Rocky, “I think the Divine Servant who held Apophis might have been attacked, and that’s why Bind rushed over there like his ass was on fire. Maybe the Divine Servant was very seriously injured, so he dared not appear in front of you. As for why Bind did not use the Evil Sword Apophis, that’s easily explainable. Saints of Darkness are people who walk on the edge of the rules of the Realms, and so is the Evil Sword Apophis. When they’re together for a prolonged period of time, it could easily attract the attention of the Realms. Bind had just used an ability which violated the rules, so of course he dared not commit such a crime when the attention was on him.”

The others felt that Steel File’s explanation made sense, but Rocky was still anxious. He said with a frown, “There’s another possibility. The Divine Servant might have been killed….”

Carlos immediately denied Rocky’s assumption. He said earnestly, “Boss, you don’t know what a monster the Divine Servant is. To kill the Divine Servant before Bind comes to his aid….honestly, it’s impossible unless there were two of you!”

Rocky smiled wryly. He also felt that there was a problem with his assumption.

Steel File stared at Rocky with a frown and yelled at him. “Our mission now is to get rid of Dr. W!! The reward for this mission is very generous. Your heart is in turmoil, Rocky. How could you be fit to wield Gungnir if you don’t have indomitable will and the courage to break through all obstacles?”

Rocky took a deep breath. “I understand. You’re absolutely right.”

Steel File dashed forward again with his shields up, boldly charging towards a temporary bunker ahead. The roar of machine guns could not slow him down the slightest bit. Facing the terrifying Awakeners, even an official army armed to the teeth fell like dominoes.

But right after the team had conquered the temporary bunker, a dying soldier screamed and pressed a red button. The tunnel in front of them exploded with a deafening roar. Mud and rock rolled down and completely blocked off the tunnel.

The team was shocked. They instantly checked the mission radar and found that if they had to make a detour, they would have to go all the way back to Area F at the very beginning to take another turn! Not only would returning waste a lot of precious time, the enemy could also use this opportunity to lay down even more bombs to collapse the tunnels.

Rocky’s eyes flickered, and a ferocious power surged through his whole body. Even Steel File had to take several steps back with a heavy face. Rocky flung Gungnir with a loud shout. A pious hymn instantly rose in the air. The fierce light from the spear blinded the team’s eyes.

A flash of light which destroyed everything!

The collapsed section of the tunnel in front was nearly 30 meters long, but Gungnir still managed to pierce a hole through the rubble heap. The wall of the hole was smooth and flawless, but there was still residual heat and smoke left on it.

The team did not applaud or burst out with joy when they saw Rocky show his might. They merely stared hatefully ahead because more than a hundred meters away, at the other end of the tunnel forcefully made by Rocky, they saw the dim lights of military engineers burying more explosives.

The group instantly pounced on the troops in surprise and anger, but by this time, the explosives were probably already in place, and the soldiers did not hesitate to press the detonator! A terrible collapse occurred again to block the way of Rocky’s team!

Steel File screamed in fury, “Throw it again!”
