The Quest for Immortality

Gu Changhuai was at a loss for words.

This kid, what on earth is he talking about?

Get in touch with that woman surnamed Xia?

What a joke...

Women are nothing but trouble, out of sight, out of mind. How could he possibly approach her on his own, unless something was wrong with his head?

Gu Changhuai thought to himself sarcastically.

Mo Hua then brought out the ”old excuse,” ”It’s all for the investigation, for the truth!”

Gu Changhuai: ”Say something practical.”

Having spent so much time with Mo Hua, he was now immune to these so-called ”righteous” words.

”Alright then,” Mo Hua sighed, ”I realize that on our own, we probably can’t catch Water Yama.”

”This is the Second Grade State Border, and Water Yama is powerful, his methods are strange, and what’s more troublesome is that he’s skilled in water nature skills...”

Gu Changhuai frowned.

Though unwilling to admit it, he knew in his heart that Water Yama might be even more troublesome than Fire Buddha.

In terms of sheer strength, Water Yama couldn’t match Fire Buddha.

In a head-to-head confrontation, Water Yama definitely wasn’t a match for Fire Buddha.

But catching Water Yama, or killing him, was even harder than taking on Fire Buddha.

Fire Buddha’s strength lay in his boundless, beast-like spiritual power, and his unbeatable fire-series forbidden techniques.

In the same realm, in a direct fight, Fire Buddha feared almost no cultivator.

But Water Yama walked a ”strange” path; his Taoist skill was ruthless, his movement technique ghostly, and his pupil skill mysterious.

Most troublesome of all was his affinity with water.

If on land, it wouldn’t be so bad.

But once Water Yama swims into Mistwater River, with the additional water nature boost, his power increases greatly.

With this, he could stir up trouble as he pleased, coming and going freely, and no one could do anything about it.

Finding a cultivator who practices water nature skills, with water nature and strength comparable to Water Yama, was nearly impossible.

Gu Changhuai sighed.

That’s just how cultivators are.

Cultivation is the foundation of everything, but it’s not everything.

Having cultivation without enough experience, depth in strategy, understanding of Taoist skills, proficiency in many branches of Tao cultivation, or means to apply one’s cultivation, one would still face obstacles everywhere, feeling helpless and at a loss in situations.

”So, you want Xia Canonical Official to help?” Gu Changhuai asked.

Mo Hua nodded, ”Yes.”

”But she’s with the Taoist Court, who knows what she’s thinking.” Gu Changhuai was a bit wary.

Mo Hua said, ”Uncle Gu, didn’t you say before that Court Officials from the Taoist Court should follow the Taoist Law, be pragmatic, catch who needs to be caught, kill who needs to be killed, and act impartially...”

”Since that’s the case, as long as we act according to the Taoist Law, and can catch Water Yama and eliminate this scourge together, why worry about Xia Canonical Official’s identity or motives?”

Gu Changhuai was taken aback, pondered it carefully, and found there seemed to be some reason in it.

The Taoist Court Officials naturally belonged to the Taoist Court.

And though the Gu family was a family, it came from an official’s lineage, inherently different from other industrial-like families.

The Gu family’s house rules have always emphasized following the Taoist Law and acting impartially.

Given that, no matter what motives the Taoist Court has, as long as they follow the Gu family’s house rules, it should be fine.

Gu Changhuai suddenly realized something.

This could be the ”clear stream” path the Gu family follows.

Abide by the Taoist Law, act according to principles.

That way, they neither collude with other families nor flattery the Taoist Court.

Because even the Taoist Court might not necessarily abide by the Taoist Law...

Gu Changhuai frowned.

Such a ”clear stream” would inevitably arouse envy, perhaps even make enemies everywhere.

But this is the path the Gu family chose.

To persist in this path, although full of obstacles and hardship, abandoning it could lead to ”annihilation of the family” in no time once its roots and bones are lost.

Sometimes before, he would think the Family Head’s ways were too pedantic, but now upon close reflection, he slightly understood some of the Family Head’s painstaking efforts.

After a moment of contemplation, Gu Changhuai said, ”Alright!”

Mo Hua was a bit surprised.

He hadn’t expected Uncle Gu to agree so quickly.

He hadn’t even finished his prepared speech.

But it’s good that Uncle Gu figured it out himself.

Though Mo Hua also didn’t know what exactly he had figured out...

”Then, Uncle Gu, find some time to meet with Xia Canonical Official.” Mo Hua took advantage of the opportunity.

Gu Changhuai didn’t speak, but deep down he was still somewhat resistant.

”No worries, I’ll go too when the time comes.” Mo Hua said.

Gu Changhuai frowned, ”Why are you going?”

If I don’t go, you two will probably end up sitting there coldly staring at each other...

Mo Hua silently thought to himself.

”I also have important matters to discuss with Xia Canonical Official.” Mo Hua said.

Gu Changhuai was silent for a moment, ”Alright then...”

It’s good if Mo Hua goes too; if it were up to him alone, he really wouldn’t want to see that woman surnamed Xia.

Women are too troublesome.

”It’s just that even if I invite her, she may not be willing to come out.” Gu Changhuai said.

”No worries, Uncle Gu, just try inviting her.” Mo Hua said.

Mo Hua had thought it over and felt that Uncle Gu inviting Xia Canonical Official was highly likely to succeed.

In terms of identity, they were both Court Officials.

Uncle Gu had been a Court Official at the Qian Learning State Boundary for over two hundred years; having handled countless cases and dealt with countless Sin Cultivators.

Although Xia Canonical Official backed by the Xia family had the Taoist Court to rely on, she was new to the Qian Learning State Boundary and unfamiliar with its internal workings.

In such a situation, she certainly wouldn’t mind consulting Uncle Gu for information.

On the other hand, to be honest, Uncle Gu is at least quite handsome.

Men like beautiful women.

And in this world, there’s no woman who doesn’t like a handsome young man.

Therefore, Uncle Gu’s good looks shouldn’t be wasted; they should be put to good use.
