Three weeks into the six-month transition period, the first joint inspection column rode out from Alika City into the sunlit central plains.

At the head of the column rode Squad 25 alongside Northern Prefect Marshal Salka, escorting Molakwa engineers, Cilsi healers, and southern supply wagons.

Beside the marching riders, the ancient desert beast Zaira glided smoothly across blooming meadows, her dark scales gleaming under the clear blue sky.

Wagons laden with polished stone blocks, cedar timber, and sacks of grain stretched as far as the eye could see along the newly widened highway.

Their destination was the historic Kovura Border Gate, the heavily fortified chokepoint that had separated the North and Central provinces for sixty years.

For generations, this jagged mountain pass had been a place of blood, high stone ramparts, and iron ballista towers.

As the column approached the mountain cut, they were greeted by the thunderous shouts of hundreds of working soldiers.

Northern iron axemen and southern bronze spearmen were working side by side, hauling heavy chains to dismantle massive iron portcullises and spiked barricades.

“Put some muscle into it, lads!” Kaka bellowed with a wide grin as he leapt down from his sand-strider, tossing his bear-fur cloak aside.

“Those iron spikes won’t pull themselves down!”

Kaka grabbed a heavy iron chain, planting his boots into the gravel and pulling with ferocious northern strength.

Bukata stepped up beside him, grabbing the links with his armored gauntlets as the massive iron gate groaned and collapsed into the dirt.

A roaring cheer went up from the mixed crews of soldiers, who dropped their tools and clapped one another on the shoulders.

The jagged iron teeth that had guarded the frontier were loaded onto wagons to be melted into bridge bolts, farming plows, and water pipes.

Chief Tendai’s master masons immediately went to work, laying smooth white granite blocks to replace the dark fortress gate.

In place of fortress doors, they erected a soaring marble archway carved with the blooming star emblem of Tasaka, opening a welcoming avenue for all travelers.

“This archway will stand for five hundred years,” Kiuga noted with satisfaction, checking his architectural blueprints alongside a senior builder.

“The passage is thirty paces wide, allowing four commercial freight wagons to travel abreast.”

Near the newly paved crossing, Kiuga and the central engineers laid the cornerstone for the grand Kovura Waystation.

The stone complex was designed to house a continental post office, secure rest lodgings for merchant caravans, and a permanent customs bureau.

Nearby, Healer Lira and fifty young physicians from Cilsi Academy set up the first continental roadside sanctuary.

They pitched wide canvas pavilions shaded by date palms, setting out clean cots, herbal tinctures, and steaming basins of antiseptic wash.

Lira knelt beside an elderly northern farmer who had traveled from a nearby valley, gently rubbing a fragrant shyflower balm into his arthritic hands.

“Apply this balm twice a day with warm water, grandfather. The clinic will remain open permanently to serve your village.”

“Bless you, child,” the old farmer said with joyful tears in his eyes, bowing with deep gratitude.

“For fifty years, our families had to travel weeks over mountain ridges to find medicine. Now healing sits right at our doorstep.”

Young Ulekai and Zolinka helped unload crates of dried medicinal herbs and clean linen bandages from supply carts, handing them to eastern apprentices.

Zolinka demonstrated to local farmers how alchemical mineral salts could be mixed with compost to enrich mountain soil and double their wheat yields.

Across the training grounds, Bukata and Maita gathered dozens of young recruits for an informal demonstration of combined tactics.

Bukata showed how a heavy northern shield could interlock with a southern spear, while Maita demonstrated western curved-blade disarming techniques.

Kaka walked over to Bukata and Ulekai, clapping both of them on the back with a booming laugh as he handed them steaming meat pies.

“Eat up, brothers! You can’t teach the next generation of Tasaka warriors on an empty stomach!”

By late afternoon, the first contingent of exchange cadets arrived at the pass from Galka War Academy and Kafika All-Girls Academy.

Two hundred young men and women in crisp training uniforms stood in formation before the new marble archway, their eyes wide with excitement.

Lady Kiana rode up beside Sagiri atop her white sand-strider, watching the young cadets with a serene, dignified smile.

“The Sekana path-walkers have already mapped the southern water conduits. In three months, the first irrigation canals will connect the Karu River to the border.”

Kaka stood before the assembled cadets, his hands resting on the pommels of his twin war axes as Marshal Salka stood proudly by his side.

“Listen up, cadets! The days of training solely to fight each other across borders are over!”

“Here in Kovura, you will learn southern sand-gliding, northern iron defense, western tracking, and eastern cellular recovery!” Kaka declared.

“You are the first generation of Tasaka, and you will protect this land as one family!”

The cadets raised their training weapons high into the air, their unified battle roar echoing across the mountain valley with thrilling power.

As evening descended over Kovura pass, large communal bonfires were lit across the green slopes, casting a warm orange glow over the bustling camp.

Roasted venison, sweet southern date cakes, and barrels of crisp northern cider were shared freely among soldiers, builders, and traveling merchants.

Musicians from the Central Plains played wooden flutes and stringed lutes by the fire, while northern and southern warriors joined hands in the lively Desert Dance.

Laughter and song filled the mountain air where cannon fire and war horns had once brought terror.

Sagiri sat on a low stone ledge overlooking the vibrant campsite, his dark tunic catching the flickering firelight.

Lira sat close beside him, leaning her head gently against his shoulder as the cool mountain breeze rustled the pine needles overhead.

“Look at them, Sagiri,” Lira whispered softly, her misty grey eyes reflecting the golden flames.

“The world you dreamed of is actually coming to life.”

“It is our world, Lira,” Sagiri replied with a gentle smile, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.

“It was built by every hand in this camp, and it will be guarded by the love they share.”

Within his chest, the Five Primordial Relics pulsed with quiet, warm equilibrium, their ancient energies completely at peace within his bloodstream.

The shortened years of his mortal vessel did not weigh upon his mind; his spirit was full of profound gratitude for the living beauty of the present.

Across the clearing, Marshal Salka and Grand Marshal Senraki stood together beside a burning brazier, raising wooden mugs of cider in a silent toast.

Beside them, the ancient desert beast Zaira rested her colossal chin upon the soft grass, rumbling in deep contentment as children fell asleep against her warm scales.

The ancient walls had crumbled, the roads were open, and the living soul of Tasaka was restored to the earth.

Hand in hand beneath the starlit sky, the companions watched the golden embers rise into the night.
