The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 2041: Older Brother of the Moon

It was silent in this realm tonight, or rather, it has always been nighttime and serene in this realm.

Only the moon was the realm’s voice.

Silver light fell from the sky in steady streaks, a celestial rain that should’ve bathed the entire realm in its glow. But tonight, or rather, in this peculiar moment, the moonlight didn’t scatter. It gathered, bent, and focused rapidly—drawn by forces unseen.

Every single thread of silver converged into a single, blinding column.

One that pierced the darkness like a spear.

Intensely, the beam shot downward, through a gap in the clouds—through a hole in a distant dome, and into the heart of a structure that waited in breathless stillness. The only building in the area was vast and circular.

Its ceiling was a dome of pale stone open to the sky above.

Beneath that dome, a spacious chamber sprawled; its floor was polished smooth, and its walls were lined with glowing blue fireflies that drifted lazily through the air. Their light was gentle and also cold.

A counterpoint to the molten silver pouring down from above.

At the center of the chamber, a platform rose, and upon it, a shallow pool shimmered.

Steam curled from the water’s surface in ghostly tendrils—proof of a heat that had nothing to do with fire. The moonlight struck the shallow pool and scattered across its surface, fracturing into a thousand trembling reflections, an ethereal dance of light and shadow.

And at the center of that pool, kneeling in the steaming water, was a figure.

He was massive.

Even compared to the big shallow pool, his body took up the entire center.

Not to mention, the water that should be knee-height normally barely reached his knees—as he knelt in it. A werewolf or something close to it with unfathomable stature. His shoulders were broader than the marble pillars around, and his frame built like a fortress that had learned to breathe.

Fur the color of pale storm clouds and old iron covered every inch of him.

And his eyes were closed—his chest rose and fell in a rhythm as if the moon’s pull was making his body desire more air than usual. He inhaled through his nose, and steam plumed from his nostrils—blue steam, tinged with power, that sizzled upward and vanished into the dark.

He was bathing in the moonlight. Drinking it. Letting it fill him.

Like satiating the thirst after waking up from a long and deep slumber with a glass of water.

Just then, something disturbed him.

Slowly, his devious, predatory eyes that had known no fear and seemed to look down on everything in existence were revealed. His triangular ears flipped—hearing the shift in the air that was so light that most wouldn’t realize it as fast.

He looked up and saw the moon change.

An eclipse began to form—a shadow crept across the silver disk above.

Gradually, the light dimmed, flickered, and the entire realm seemed to hold its breath. Within the darkness, the figure remained hyper-alert—keeping his senses flared to the surroundings, making sure that nothing bad was happening.

But something bad did happen.

His brows furrowed when a shade of pale green dawned upon the realm.

Roar—!

Realizing what had happened, the figure unleashed a realm-shaking roar, containing power that blasted out, spreading toward the horizon with lightning-fast speed. The figure attempted to stand up, and the chains emerged from the shadows like serpents of light.

They coiled around his limbs, his torso, and his throat.

And from how solid they were, it seemed they were made of the moon itself.

One could see the chains siphoning the light from above, or at least, they were siphoning the light—and feeding the figure until the eclipse happened. It caught the power that spilled over the dome, cascading down in silent waterfalls, and shot it into the figure.

A mechanism that wasted not even a drop of the moon’s power.

Another pulse expanded from his body—a wave of force that rippled through the chamber, through the building, through the land itself. The lake surrounding the structure shuddered, chaotic ripples tearing across its surface. The fireflies scattered. The steam swirled. And then, slowly, the eclipse began to recede.

Moonlight returned, and the chains faded back into invisibility.

But the werewolf’s frown did not.

He understood what the appearance of the eclipse meant, and he was extremely furious.

His nostrils flared, and the blue steam billowed thicker.

Just then, the dimensional fabric near the entrance to the open chamber was torn apart—by a deep red energy. Claws stabbed through and pulled—opening a portal into this realm before another figure stepped out.

A werewolf with crimson fur and a savage, snarling face.

”Mayar is dead.” Kaiser snarled as the portal closed behind him. ”Our best tracker was killed by the Royal Black Prince, and his soul had now returned to the Full Moon’s Cycle. Brother—do you understand how dire the situation is now?”

Almost instantly, the figure snapped his head over his shoulder.

Both eyes burned with a wrath that could scorch the stars.

His gaze locked onto Kaiser, and a snarl tore from his throat. A low, guttural growl, the sound of a beast that had lost its cubs and now stared at the killer of his cubs. The chains that bound him to the shallow pool, the chains woven from the power of the moon, shattered like glass.

They broke as if they were nothing. As if they had been nothing.

Slowly, the figure rose to his feet—water cascaded from his massive frame and steam billowed from his shoulders. His stature unfolded to its full, terrible height. He was bigger than Kaiser. Much bigger, broader, and more menacing.

A mountain of fur and fang.

It hadn’t even been that long since he woke up, and the situation had already escalated.

Surprisingly, the situation became worse, and now it was impossible to ignore.

Mayar was dead.

One of their siblings was dead, and more importantly, he was a God. One who was calculative, careful, and the best hunter among them had been killed by a mere Demigod. No, not mere. The Royal Black Prince did it.

A being who shouldn’t have possessed the power to slay a God, and yet he had done so.

He broke the rules.

Somehow, he existed outside them.

He shattered normalcy with the same ease he had shattered Mayar’s physical body.

Realizing that alone made the figure want to scream. To rage. His blood boiled with the need to destroy something, anything, to vent the fury that clawed at his insides. But he held it back. Every muscle in his body trembled with effort, but he held it back.

He turned to Kaiser, his voice a low rumble that seemed to shake the air itself. ”I understand.” The words were measured—deliberate. ”Once I am awakened properly. Once I have gathered my strength. Then the Royal Black Prince will die.” His eyes blazed. ”It doesn’t matter what it costs. He will die.”

Kaiser nodded slowly, his expression unreadable.

Convincing his brother was hard to do.

Even with Meloriana gone and his reasoning for doing what he did, this figure, the God of the Super Moon, refused to understand. It took Mayar taking the fall for him to finally understand the situation.

Rex, the Royal Black Prince, is a wolf right now.

But soon, very soon, he would be a tiger that would swallow them all.

Getting rid of him right now was the only choice they could take right now.

Kaiser raised his hand, and a miniature blood moon bloomed near the ceiling, casting crimson light across the entire open chamber. A portal tore open behind him, and its edges crackled with the power of the Blood Moon.

In its light, anger loomed.

Anything within its embrace would be burned with anger.

Right now, the Lunirich God of the Super Moon needed that, and Kaiser also did not want to risk him changing his mind. Even if he wouldn’t change his mind—this wave of anger would help him make haste.

”Fester that anger,” Kaiser said; his voice was calm—and cold. ”Let it grow. Let it burn. Let it consume you. When I return, I hope you are ready, brother. Or else I’ll make a move on my own.”

He stopped through the portal—his form already dissolved into the other side.

”Make haste, brother.” He added before disappearing.

Once the portal closed, the chamber fell silent. And the figure stood alone in the red embrace.

His fists clenched at his sides, and the name of his enemy etched into his heart like a brand.

”Rex Silverstar...”

...

Rex brushed the front of his fitted white shirt and exhaled slowly through his mouth. The fabric was smooth beneath his fingers, pristine and clean, a stark contrast to the violence that awaited him.

Once the preparations were done, High Lord Rashal had handed him—and Davina their matching uniforms and gear—white-on-white, elegant and deadly—before telling them to change.

Half an hour. That was all that remained before the Purgation Duel began.

It wasn’t his first time walking into a fight to the death. He had survived horrors that would take multiple lifetimes to match, clawed his way out of pits that should have swallowed him whole.

But even so, his chest felt tight.

His heart beat a fraction faster than it should. He was nervous.

Rex combed his black hair back and exhaled again. Then he walked out of the room.

The corridor was empty—or at least, empty of anything real. Puppets and androids stood in silent alcoves, their blank eyes tracking him as he passed. He ignored them. His boots clicked softly against the stone floor as he navigated the turns.

Each step carried him closer to the inevitable.

Around, the air grew heavier with each stride, thick with the weight of what was coming.

He turned a corner and arrived at an open space—the others were already there.

Both Vadyn and High Lord Rashal, wearing the same color, stood near the open portal.

Its swirling light cast long shadows across the floor; the gateway to High Lord Ursa’s pocket dimension pulsed with a slow, rhythmic energy, like a heartbeat waiting to be answered. Rex stopped before Lilliana, noticing the intent behind her eyes.

She approached him without a word, her hands finding his.

And then, she leaned in and pressed a kiss to his cheek.

”Good luck,” she whispered.

Lilliana would only be watching; she wasn’t going to fight alongside Rex, but she was still as nervous as him. Besides, what woman would not be worried to see her man going to a battle? One that might take his own life, no less.

Rex nodded.

He didn’t trust his voice. He moved past her and took his place beside Davina.

She wore the same white-on-white uniform, her posture straight, her gaze fixed on the portal ahead. She didn’t turn to look at him, but she didn’t need to. She could feel him standing there. And then, without a word, she reached out and intertwined her fingers with his.

Feeling her warm touch, Rex felt like he could finally breathe again.

But for Davina, it was the opposite.

Beneath the touch, she felt something else. She could sense it now—the tension coiled in his muscles, and the tightness in his jaw. He was not nervous for himself. He was nervous for her. For what she might face in the battle ahead.

And the realization settled over her like a quiet revelation.

She leaned closer, her voice barely above a whisper. ”I’ll be careful. I’ll keep my distance.”

Rex looked at her, surprise flickering in his eyes. She had read him. Easily. The walls he had built, the mask he wore—none of it had mattered. She had seen through him in seconds. And frankly, he wasn’t expecting her to notice.

A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips, hidden from the others.

He squeezed her hand once. A silent acknowledgment. A quiet thank you. And then, together, they turned toward the portal, the white light washing over them as the final minutes ticked away.

”Let’s go.”
