The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 2017: Mayar of the Harvest Moon

Rex somewhat expected this.

Back when he forced his way into the Mortal Realm, he announced to Kaiser and Meloriana that he was going to go against them in their own territories. He didn’t do it without a reason. He did it because he wanted them to focus on him.

Pull their attention away from the others in the Mortal Realm.

A deliberate taunt so that the Lunirich Gods would be busy worrying about their own realms—and have no time to make another attempt at the others. Rex wanted to believe that their last attempt had used up all their methods to enter the Mortal Realm.

However, considering how many times they managed to find a way in, he couldn’t be sure.

So, he decided to taunt them instead.

Having the battle brought to them would not only be dangerous but humiliating, and Rex was more than certain that they weren’t going to let that happen. No matter what, the Lunirich Gods would locate him and kill him before he could ever enter their realms.

Naturally, Rex also expected them to send someone to hunt him down.

Just that he didn’t expect that it would be one of the Lunirich Gods instantly from the start.

Seemed like they weren’t playing around anymore.

Leaving Rex alive would only endanger their position more and more, especially considering his speed in growing stronger was nothing short of monstrous. It was time for them to dispatch him for good, and since this was the God Realm, they could send one of their own.

And this entity standing not too far away from the moonlit platform was the entity sent to kill him.

A hunter.

Rex had always remained careful while he was still inside the God Realm.

Even though using the Primordial Permit meant that nobody, including other Gods, would be able to predict where he was going, it wasn’t foolproof. If a God could read his mind, then his destination could be exposed.

Or perhaps another God could leave a silent tracker on him and follow him through that.

Regardless, there are ways for Gods to track him down.

So, he never let down this guard.

And the moment Rex set foot on the moon to meet Aylith, the System already notified him of a presence lurking in the gap between this Sovereign Realm and another hidden dimension. Someone was watching their interaction.

Someone unseen was paying attention to every word exchanged between them.

Rex didn’t need to think for long to know who it was.

Out of the methods to track him down, this Lunirich God employed the humblest one.

Prediction.

Knowing that Rex had entered the God Realm to hunt the Lunirich God—and ransack their dominions, this particular Lunirich God predicted that he would need to have a God backing him up in order to keep advancing his divinity further and grow stronger.

In order to become a proper Demigod.

And what’s the easiest entity to coax, then a weakened and most compatible one?

Even if Rex somehow got another God to back him up without needing Aylith, he would still eventually come to the Great Pale Court to find the realms and information around the Lunirich Gods. So, this one saw no harm in waiting.

Let the prey come to him.

And with patience, the wait finally bore fruit.

Rex smiled inwardly as he stared at another Lunirich God that he didn’t recognize.

Despite knowing this Lunirich God’s presence, he carried out what he needed to do without a hiccup, and even called Lilliana and Davina away from that area before finally confronting this entity. He was quite certain that the Lunirich God would attack instantly, so he proceeded without worry.

On the other hand, Davina and Lilliana were completely blindsided by this.

But from what Rex said, they understood that this monstrous entity was not a mere entity.

Not a Demigod sent to harass them by High Lord Ursa or someone who didn’t like them.

No—this was a God.

And the realization struck like a blade of ice.

Not only was this entity a God, but it was also not an echo, not a dying remnant, or another like Aylith who was wounded, clinging to the last echoes of their powers. This was a true God in the flesh, standing before them in the fullness of his glory.

His presence was a weight that bent the very air around him.

Davina and Lilliana sucked in a breath that felt like swallowing shards of glass.

Both of their eyes blew wide, pupils dilating as the truth of it crashed over them.

It was only after their minds accepted what their senses were screaming that their bodies followed suit.

Fresh crimson blood began to trickle from their noses, then more burst from their mouths in a sudden, violent gush. And almost in an instant, they dropped to the ground—their knees buckled entirely under an invisible mountain, while their bodies folded as if crushed by an immense, unseen hand.

A pressure of raw divinity pressed down on them from all sides.

Inside and out.

And the God-like bloodlust radiating from the Lunirich God tore at their internal organs—leaving them bleeding, gasping, drowning in the absolute hostility of his presence. Neither of them was even close to Godhood.

Of course, they were powerful.

Werewolves who were now touching the realm of Demigods and could hold their own in the God Realm.

That was proven by how they moved in the Sundial Arch.

But this was something else entirely. This was a being whose very existence was an attack on everything lesser and mortal. The brutal consequences of standing in his presence were not metaphorical. They were physical.

They were blood and pain and the slow, grinding crush of a body breaking under immense weight.

An immense weight of something far too vast to endure.

Davina and Lilliana coughed, and blood spattered the pale moonlit ground beneath them.

All their muscles screamed, and their bones creaked.

It felt as though the universe itself had turned against them.

Rex, on the other hand, did not flinch.

As of this moment, the System was in turmoil. Warning after warning flashed across his vision, a dozen notifications in a matter of seconds, each one blaring the same message. A message informing him that he was in the presence of a God-level entity.

He was told to run.

Leave the Great Pale Court to get as far away from this Lunirich God.

But he didn’t move.

He didn’t heed a single one.

A thin trail of blood dripped from the corner of his mouth—trailing down his chin, and he let it fall. He felt the same pressure that was crushing Davina and Lilliana. He felt his own organs straining under the weight of that divine hostility. And he endured it.

His eyes remained locked on the Lunirich God, unblinking.

Pain was an old friend.

It had been with him in the mortal realm—in the trenches of his first wars, in the dark places where he had learned that survival and revenge were not a gift but a choice. Every scar on his body was a memory of pain accepted and pain overcome.

And this was no different.

Regardless of the overwhelming presence, he remained steadfast.

Nothing is impossible in this world, and this time, he was going to prove that again by locking eyes with a God and surviving. So, he sat on the crescent moon artifact and stared at the Lunirich God like he was staring at another normal person.

Seeing this, the Lunirich God let out another stroke of his divinity.

It was a subtle wave. Directed solely at Rex.

Any Demigod would have already collapsed to their knees—most would have died outright. Rex was enduring the same force, the same agony. It showed in the cracks splitting across his skin, in the blood streaming from his nose and trailing like crimson tears from his eyes.

Even his entire body was shaking.

But he didn’t waver or break eye contact.

He was suffering inside, and the pain should be indescribable, and yet he didn’t budge.

”Hm, let me guess...” Instead of breaking, Rex contemplated, and then raised his trembling hand before pointing at the monstrous Lunirich God. ”Judging from how you look and that mark on your chest, you must be the Lunirich God of the Harvest Moon.”

”We Lunirich Gods are bound by more than blood.” His voice was heavy, almost tender, settling on the heart like a weight. ”I was surprised to feel the anger raging inside Kaiser, as it has been a long time since he was that angry. And to think that someone... lesser was the root of that distress. That, I admit, surprised me.”

”It’s a part of my charm,” Rex answered with a small chuckle. ”Surprising people is my habit.”

”That being said, I was surprised how easy it was to find you.”

”Have you ever wondered why that is?”

”Is this supposed to be a surprise, too?”

”I’m not planning for it to be, but it could.” Rex gestured toward Aylith with calm deliberation. ”I’m sure you heard the productive conversation I just had with your mother. I knew you were watching from the very start. So, I thought I’d offer a demonstration. A display of my mercy and magnanimity by proposing her a truly generous deal.”

”Mayar, dear...” Aylith finally turned after she snapped out of her trance. ”Do not engage like this. You are now a God. A being who stands above many. Petty confrontations with those—who are lower in pure divinity are unwarranted. It would only make you look bad.”

Becoming a God is not simply an ascent to power.

One would also need to embody the etiquette of a God that shouldn’t fare too much with life.

Beings under them should be left alone, as fighting them would only be lowering a God’s status.

A God should be impartial to mortals and demigods.

It was still something that the Lunirich God of the Harvest Moon, Mayar, needed to learn. He needed to work on his etiquette and approach when it comes to lesser beings. Aylith wanted to teach them, but their greed gave her no chance to do that.

”Listen to your mother, Mayar.” Rex gestured to her with an open palm. ”Listen to the entity—who had earned her Goddess status through her own efforts. If I had a mother like her, a real Goddess, I would’ve listened to her well.”

Even after Aylith’s motherly voice crawled through the air, Mayar did not look.

His eyes never wavered from Rex.

Not that they were cruel or angry. Just absent.

”Mayar, my son...” Aylith called again; her voice was trembling now.

A hairline crack spread through the melody.

But there was still no recognition. No flicker of acknowledgment. Not even the faintest reaction. It was as if the voice was not a voice at all, but a whisper of wind against the surface of a mountain. Too soft— too insignificant to register.

To Mayar, she was simply not there. Invisible and erased for his sensors.

A ghost standing before a god, and the god did not see her.

The weight of that truth settled over the chamber like frost. This was not hate—Hate would have been easier to bear. Hate would have meant some part of him still cared enough to feel. This was indifference. A mother standing before her child, and her existence meant nothing.

Less than nothing.

She was air. She was silence. She was a memory that no longer had a place in his world.

Aylith’s hands slowly lowered to her sides. The light around her dimmed, just a fraction, as if the moon itself had begun to fade. Her blindfolded face tilted downward, not in defeat, but in the quiet, crushing acceptance of one who had finally understood the depth of her fall.

Even then, Mayar still fixated on Rex.

For some reason, this dynamic somewhat irked Rex to his bones.

How unsightly.
