The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1749: Main Quest Initiated!

Empress Morgana smiled beautifully.

It was the kind of smile that was innocent and good, one that washed Rex’s heart with ease.

Nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

Her face was glowing with the intangible celestial radiance of someone blessed by the world.

”You’ve changed...” Rex uttered, eyes tracing down her flowing golden hair and then her radiant golden eyes. ”Forgive my rudeness, Your Majesty, but are you still the same person? The last time we met, you weren’t like this.”

Empress Morgana cast a wider smile and then walked out of the dome.

She went around the statue slowly and deliberately.

Each step she took created a solid sound as her gold high-heels tapped against the cobblestone floor.

But Rex’s attention locked onto her face, his brows knitted as the moment she stepped out of the dome, her appearance changed again. Her eyes burned a hot red, and her pure-white dress is now streaked with crimson threading through intricate folds.

It was a bizarre, but seamless change.

One that made Rex question whether he was seeing it right the first time or not.

Perhaps it was the dome that altered her appearance.

Rex stared at her as his mind churned, finding her appearance familiar.

But the disappearance of the stepping sound snapped him out of his thoughts instantly.

Empress Morgana stopped right before the statue, staring at him with a peculiar gaze—and then shifted toward the statues around them, ”I’m guessing you don’t really know about the Tomb of Heroes. I think even Princess Davina knew little about this place.”

”I was about to ask,” Rex also turned towards the statues. ”What is this place, Your Majesty?”

”Please,” Empress Morgana raised a hand, smiling. ”Morgana is fine. You’re my savior.”

”If you’re okay with it, then I will drop the formality.”

”Good, that’ll be a lot more comfortable.”

Empress Morgana then walked to the side, heading over to the statue of the Shapeshifter.

”Tomb of Heroes is nothing but a feeble offering our minds could make up to respect heroes; it’s a place where the unfathomable were recorded and remembered. A place that can only host the strongest and the bravest,” She explained, resting her hands on the railings as she stared at the statue. ”These statues are unbreakable, and they are exact replicas of those beings. Each contained a trace of their energies and their will.”

”What exactly makes them heroes? If it’s about the Great Flood, then shouldn’t there be the Silent Consort?” Rex asked, recalling what Ethan told him back then.

”Most people only knew about the Great Flood, but that’s only the ending. All the real battles happened before that,” Empress Morgana exhaled lightly and then turned to Rex. ”All the real battles against our greatest enemy, Chaos, happened before that.”

Chaos again... But I somewhat expected this. That thing is in there, and it’s beyond strong.

”And all the statues you see here,” Empress Morgana gestured towards the entire chamber. ”All of them are the real—heroes. Each one was given the same purpose: to carry the weight of the realm’s future on their backs. And all of them did their best, creating more offspring to expand their forces.”

Hearing this, Rex’s heart skipped a beat.

His eyes widened for a second, processing what Empress Morgana said.

Something bad that he wasn’t prepared to deal.

”What’s wrong?” Amanir asked, seeing his face turning pale. ”Are we in trouble?”

”No...” Rex shook his head. ”I’m in trouble.”

Noticing the change in his expression, Empress Morgana turned to look towards him and raised a brow.

”Are you okay, Lord Rex?”

”I... Earlier, what you said... Are you implying these statues are the statues of Origins?”

”Yes. And I’m sure you’re familiar with their offspring,” Empress Morgana said as she gestured ahead. Her finger traced the air, pointing at the statues—marking each word that left her lips. ”Shapeshifters... Dragonmen... Angels... and Demons.”

Rex reached out his hand and pointed at the statue directly to his left, ”That’s the Demon Origin?”

”Yes, that’s her, the original demon. All demons are birthed by her.”

”Shit...”

Swish!

As soon as the words left Rex’s mouth, all eyes snapped towards the Demon Origin’s statue.

Distant screams of pain echoed inside their eardrums.

But unlike the others who saw the Demon Origin’s statue to be unresponsive, Rex saw the statue’s eyes glowed—with a reddish light. And to his absolute surprise, the statue slightly tilted its head to face him directly, and then, its lips curled into an amused smile.

”Not right now!” Rex roared from his mouth, but it didn’t listen.

Instead, the statue’s chest cracked apart, and within the rift pulsed the very mouth of Hell—a burning wasteland drowned in eternal flame. From that inferno, something slowly pushed its way out. A saber, a demonic weapon wreathed in unquenchable hellfire, burning hotter than any mortal blaze.

Upon its emergence, Rex couldn’t move.

Something gripped him tightly in place, like the dimension around him was destroyed.

Nowhere to go.

And then, the saber finally moved.

Its full length finally emerged from the rift, revealing an onyx body.

Demonic eyes ran along its length, and the cross-guard was the mouth filled with razor-sharp fangs.

Rex watched as the saber drifted toward him with a dreamlike slowness—so slow that even an ordinary human would have had time to step aside. But he couldn’t move. The dimension around him had turned solid like invisible shackles, sealing his limbs, energy, and even the air in his lungs.

He wrestled against it with every shred of power he had, trying to fracture the lock.

Nothing.

Not a crack, and not even a ripple.

It was akin to being in a vacuum of space where his raw strength meant nothing.

Beside him, Amanir and Empress Morgana stood frozen, but not in time. They were moving normally, breathing, studying the Demon Origin’s statue that didn’t react in their eyes, as if they were living in a separate reality layered over his own.

”Amanir!”

”Morgana!”

Rex called to them, but neither of them turned.

Neither could hear his voice.

Both only watched the statue and seemed utterly unaware that he was about to be skewered a few steps away.

And finally, the saber brushed his skin.

Pssh...

It was steaming, and then, the hellfire erupted and latched onto him.

As opposed to blazing outward as any normal fire would—it bit into him, clinging like a parasite and burrowing deep into his flesh and soul. Agony ripped through him, hot enough to drown out every single thought he had in mind.

His scream tore free instantly, echoing off the chamber walls.

But it lasted only a second.

Before the blade sank more than three centimeters into his chest, Rex got a grip on his surroundings.

Just then, his eyes flashed crimson as a violent surge exploded from him.

His arm moved before the world could stop him again.

Clang!

Rex slapped the saber aside with a solid strike to its side, knocking it away as it scraped against the floor.

And then the impact detonated through the chamber, a soundwave that burst outward like a thunderclap.

”Still petty about the fragment I took from you, I see...” Rex stared at the Demon Origin statue. ”Don’t worry, I’m treating it far better than you ever did. And besides, if you want to face me—it’ll take more than your mere consciousness.”

”Besides, I’m helping one of your kind here...” He added in annoyance. ”Scram.”

Boom!

Rex’s body erupted with enormous energy, shattering the dimension lock around him.

And in the next heartbeat, the world went back to normal again.

”What worries you, Lord Rex?” Empress Morgana asked, confused as to why Rex reacted so much to the Demon Origin. ”I don’t know what the situation in your realm was with the Demon Race, but the Demon Origin statue only has a sliver of consciousness in it. Not enough to harm you.”

Yeah... About that.

Rex let out a strained, wry smile, chest rising and falling as a thin line of sweat slid down his neck.

Neither Empress Morgana nor Amanir knew that he had been attacked.

But then again, they don’t need to know.

”Yes. My dealings with the Demon race in the Mortal Realm have always been... delicate,” Rex lied smoothly, masking the tension with a reassuring smile. ”But if you say there’s nothing to worry about— then I’ll take you at your word.”

Empress Morgana doesn’t look convinced, but she didn’t press further.

Instead, she nodded and headed back to the dome again, seemingly wanting to take the chests.

Rex glanced at the Demon Origin statue and then at the offerings near the Angel Origin statue.

She was a Half-Angel Spiri, so was she the one who placed those offerings? And where would she even learn such rites? Angels had gone extinct in this realm, and some were worshipped as saints of a bygone age. How did she know to make offerings at all... let alone take the initiative to do it?

On that matter, how does she know about what these statues were? Isn’t she very young?

For a moment there, Rex was confused.

Many things didn’t add up, and it started to make him feel uneasy.

”There was a time when the Spirit Realm—and Mortal Realm stood side by side, closer than how it was today,” Empress Morgana said as she brought the chests, carrying them with nothing but her life energy right beside her. ”After all, I’m sure you already knew that your realm has regressed. Only now did it start to return to normal.”

Rex’s brows furrowed as that’s not information she should have access to.

Only those from the Mortal Realm knew about the World’s Awakening.

Instinctively, he pulled Amanir to his back, feeling that something was really off right now.

And as he stared at Empress Morgana’s eyes, he realized something.

She was hinting at something, but what?

Clank!

Empress Morgana placed the chests containing the Phoenix Feather and the Maw of Oblivion right in front of the ominous statue draped in a silk cloak. ”I’m greatly thankful for your help, Lord Rex. I truly am. And for that, this is what I’m going to say to you.”

Hearing this, Rex tilted his head.

This was supposed to be the place where he claimed his rewards.

And Empress Morgana did bring the things he wanted with her.

But for some reason, she doesn’t look like she wanted him to take the chests.

”Leave,” Empress Morgana said, her tone now dropped into one that was serious. ”Turn around and leave the Tomb of Heroes and forget about taking these things. At least until you settle your own matter—I promise, I’ll keep them intact until then.”

”What...?” Rex rasped, eyes narrowing sharply. ”What’s the meaning of this, Morgana?”

”Leave,” She repeated, eyes turning glassy. ”Just leave...”

Empress Morgana pointed at the crack on the floor that marked the end of the bridge and the start of the central platform, ”Know that if you step past that line, that border, you will be forfeiting your life. Even your body in the Mortal Realm will cease to exist.”

”Is that your way of scaring me?” Rex raised a brow.

He was never afraid of death.

And even if he were, there was no other choice but to go forward.

If he failed here, his path would lead to ruin anyway, so why be afraid of something like this?

Rex firmed his resolve and stepped onto the platform.

And the moment he did, notifications flooded his vision.
