The Invincible Full-Moon System

Chapter 1585: Being Truthful

Rex was surprised when a guard approached him and handed him a letter.

His aura was also not weak, around the Master Eternal Spirit rank, which was a lot higher than the guard in Rontera. Normally, the guards here were around the Immortal Spirit rank—while the more elite ones were at the Master Immortal Spirit rank.

But this guard was two ranks above the elite.

Surely, he was a royal guard in disguise.

He exposed his power only to Rex, since when he turned to leave, his aura dissipated completely.

Rex looked down at the ordinary-looking letter and frowned.

It was certainly a letter from Empress Morgana.

”She mustʼve declined me earlier because there were too many ears around, I shouldʼve known.”

Rex opened the letter.

Inside, there was a time and a place written down.

A private meeting, three days from now, at a place called the Miriam Inn.

Remembering the content, he crumpled the letter and destroyed it with his life energy.

Amanir, can you hear me?

[Yes. Iʼve got good news.]

Since Duke Lorcan was attending the ceremony all day, Amanir had a free rein to snoop around.

None of the servants has considerable strength, so they wouldnʼt be a problem.

So, Rex was expecting him to find something.

Did you manage to find something? What is it?

[As expected, Duke Lorcan knew a couple of people from the Sky City. I found reports, monthly reports that are signed by someone called Solthar, an officer from the Sky City. But I canʼt find out where this meeting happened.]

You said good news. This is not good enough.

[Iʼm not finished. Although I canʼt find the place where this meeting happen—I did find out another thing. The Sky People are a preventer, regulating the Black Rift and stopping Black Rain from forming in the empire, but there seemed to be a quota. Duke Lorcan had leverage against the Sky People. I found another name, Kaelthar, heʼs a Sky People who was detained in Lorayah Village.]

Rexʼs eyes instantly shimmered with excitement when he heard this.

This is exactly what he was looking for.

Someone from the Sky City, who knows its inside, and could possibly slip in to look for Devo.

Good, thatʼs really good, Amanir. Thatʼs enough. Get out of there. Donʼt get caught.

[Who do you think youʼre talking to? Iʼve robbed the Emperor before; this is nothing for me. Hmph!]

Fine, Iʼll acknowledge you as the supreme thief.

[You shouldʼve done that a long time ago.]

Focusing back on the moment, Rex looked around, searching for someone.

Currently, he was outside the cathedral.

Guests are bidding their goodbye to the House of Castillon and getting into their carriages to leave.

Fortunately, the person he was looking for was still here—Mira.

Rex jogged toward her, catching her by the arm just as she was about to step into the carriage, drawing a surprised gasp from both her and her family. Baron Bukharon, in particular, was taken aback. He had no idea his eldest daughter even knew Rex.

He saw them talk earlier, but he assumed Mira was introducing herself.

Having the soon-to-be husband of Princess Davina would surely be beneficial for them.

But for Rex to come to her like this was surprising.

Rex offered a polite smile to the family.

”Baron Bukharon, I apologize for intruding, but can I borrow Lady Mira?”

”What is it for, Lord Rex?”

”A sensitive matter that I needed to discuss with your daughter. It wonʼt take long.”

”Then in that case, we donʼt mind waiting.”

Rex nodded and gestured for Mira to the side, far enough so that nobody could hear their conversation.

”Are you insane? We canʼt talk this openly with people around!” Mira protested.

But frankly, Rex didnʼt care.

He needed to talk with her.

”I have a few tasks for you. First, do you know where the Miriam Inn was?”

”Miriam Inn? I think I saw it earlier when I arrived.”

”Itʼs in Rontera?”

”Yes. Arenʼt you supposed to know?”

Rex shook his head, deciding to ignore her remarks.

”In that case, I want you to find Lorayah Village. I can look at a map—but I have a feeling the village wasnʼt marked on the map.”

”I think Princess Davina has more resources than me. Why donʼt you ask her?”

”Do you really need to ask that? Isnʼt it obvious?”

Mira paused for a second, realizing that Rex must not want Princess Davina to know about this.

Even now, she didnʼt know the real reason Rex wanted to marry Princess Davina.

”Fine, Iʼm on it. But how can I deliver the message to you? Youʼre not in the House of Aureliusʼ territory anymore; youʼre not in Rontera. Youʼre in the Dukeʼs bubble.”

”Give it to Great Elder Rosa. Sheʼll deliver the message to me. Be quick, Iʼm leaving tomorrow.”

As Rex was about to turn to leave, Mira clenched the edge of her dress and decided to stop him.

Thereʼs still one more thing to talk about.

Before she could say a single word, Rex already knew what she wanted to say.

”You have to figure it out on your own. As long as itʼs not too ridiculous, I can play along with you. Oh, and also, do remember that you should find a way quickly. Your first transformation is going to be the end of you if Iʼm not nearby.”

Rex was serious.

If Mira went berserk as the Blood Moon approaches without him around, sheʼll be branded as a Voidal Monster, someone who was sick and got metamorphosed into a monster. And if that happened, sheʼll certainly be killed on the spot.

After all, Werewolves looked like monsters in the eyes of Spirits or even Demon Spirits.

Rex held Miraʼs shoulder, giving her some encouragement before he walked away.

And soon, the knighting ceremony ended.

Now, Rex has become a knight of the Haeltara Empire.

On the way back, Duke Lorcan discussed preparing for their wedding day.

He was impatient, and Rex decided to act as enthusiastically.

Even Princess Davina acted the same, keeping the façade going for tomorrow.

Upon arriving back home, Rex was beat up from the ceremony, and the amount of talking he needed to do as a new knight was exhausting. He mainly speaks through his actions, especially to his people back in the Mortal Realm.

But here, he has to adjust.

Not being the strongest is quite tiring; I forgot that it was this tiring.

Rex was now heading to his usual spot for the night meeting with Princess Davina.

Other than conversing about the wedding, she hadnʼt said a single word to him.

Since Princess Liliana heard him talking—with April about the Sky City, he assumed Princess Davina also knew about it already. He didnʼt know how Princess Davina would react to this—but hopefully, it wouldnʼt be another problem.

Man, I really donʼt want to talk about this to her. Sheʼs going to use it against me.

Letʼs pretend not to know anything.

Rex could already sense how troublesome it would be if Princess Davina knew.

As soon as he arrived at their usual spot, his breath was caught in his throat.

Princess Davina was early.

Usually, he was the one who would be waiting, but it was different today.

”Youʼre early.”

Rex walked past her and sat down on the grass, intending to meditate and heal his wounds further.

He has no intention of talking about the Sky City with her.

”I noticed… You always moved purposefully.”

Princess Davinaʼs voice crept as she ignored Rexʼs comment entirely.

It made Rex exhale heavily as he turned towards her.

”Your sister already told you?”

”Maybe, but are you going to pretend to be oblivious?”

Rex shrugged off his robe, the fabric sliding down to reveal a torso sculpted by unforgiving, relentless training and the scars of brutal battles. Muscles shifted beneath his skin as she turned, still seated on the grass, to face Princess Davina.

Resting an arm on his knee, he flicked his hand dismissively.

”Alright. Letʼs talk. What do you want to know?”

Princess Davinaʼs eyes narrowed.

It was the first time she heard Rexʼs serious voice and stern face.

One that made her recall her father in the past.

”April and Mira, whatʼs your relationship with them?”

”Iʼm a part of the Aurelius House, so Iʼve known April for a long time. Sheʼs a friend. As for Mira, I came to Arbitgea a couple of times and met with her there. I also saw your tournament there, in case youʼre wondering.”

Rex lied through his teeth without batting an eye.

As long as Princess Davina doesnʼt have the ability to sense the truth, she wouldnʼt be able to tell.

Being constantly in stressful situations reduces the volatility of his heart rate.

And his face was stone cold, completely stoic without a crack.

”Mira, what did you talk to her about earlier before she left?”

”Whatʼs this? An interrogation?”

”Answer the question.”

Princess Davinaʼs voice was sharp and cold, demanding the answer from him.

For a second there, Rex paused.

Eventually, he decided to tell the truth.

”About the Sky City.”

Hearing this, her posture relaxed a bit, pleased that Rex was telling the truth.

He made the right decision by not trying to lie when she obviously knew what he was talking about.

”Did you marry me because you wanted to go there?”

”No. I told you already, I want you first, but then, I realized marrying you would also help me.”

”Is that really the truth?”

”You can believe what you want.”

Princess Davina tapped her polished fingernail against—the hardwood, considering her thoughts for a good moment. She now knew what Rex wanted, and it alleviated some tension between them, but still, there seemed to be more to this.

”Who do you think is prettier, me or Mira?”

”Everyone would say that youʼre prettier.”

”Did I ask about everyoneʼs opinion?”

”…”

Rexʼs eyes narrowed, trying to see through her, but he couldnʼt.

He couldnʼt tell what was inside her mind at all.

”Youʼre prettier.”

”Hmm, what about me and April?”

”Youʼre pr-”

It came out naturally at first, his answer that is, but he lost his voice in the latter part.

And that didnʼt escape Princess Davinaʼs attention.

”Sheʼs prettier?”

”No, youʼre prettier.”

”If thatʼs the case, why did you stutter?”

Rex reached for his non-existent collar out of instinct, feeling a sense of tightness in his throat.

I canʼt let her lead the conversation.

He cleared his throat, deciding to take control.

”I thought you had no intention of giving me your heart, but this? Are you jealous?”

Upon hearing that, Princess Davina rose abruptly and closed the distance with graceful, gliding steps—yet to Rex, she seemed to move almost too fast, like a sudden shift in the air. Before he could react, she was already before him, lowering herself onto her knees with measured poise.

Her eyes locked onto his without flinching.

”This isnʼt about jealousy,” She said softly, though there was a sharp edge beneath her calm. ”You are going to be my husband. Weʼll be married in front of everyone, and it has to be perfect. I wonʼt have my husband appearing smitten with another woman. Itʼs not that I care about you—If you did, you would make me look bad and I absolutely care about myself.”

Princess Davina said all of that in one breath.

It came from her heart, true to herself.

Rex smiled a little, meeting her gaze head-on, ”I donʼt know about you, but you sound jealous.”

For a moment there, the two of them stared at each other.

He was staring at her playfully while Princess Davina stared at him with mild anger.

Rex looked down at her slightly trembling lips as she couldnʼt believe he still took this as a joke.

”I rarely allowed someone to get this close to me, but how long are you planning to let this go on?”

Hearing this, Princess Davina blinked.

She realized that their faces were so close that their breaths mingled.

A slight tension builds between them.

She quickly pulled away and stood up to leave, leaving Rex alone in the garden.

A few steps away, she stopped.

”I want my father to recognize that he didnʼt need a male heir. Iʼm enough to continue the house, continue his legacy. Now we know the truth about each other.”

Once she said that, she left.
