The Golem Mage

At the Arena, many people were already watching different water screens showing the teams they were interested in, the system of the water screen was so advanced that mages could draw in the air with their mana to interact with any of the multiple water screens they wanted to view personally, and a miniature water screen showcasing that match would pop up before them.

Even outside the four axis gates, many were watching the second trial in this way.

This setup was probably arranged like this because there were teams from all five Kingdoms, and it’s not like anyone would just enjoy watching multiple teams at once, since their attention would be divided.

That’s why the system was deployed this way, so they could simply interact with the water screen showing the team they wanted to support. And even then, there were still many who wanted to watch more than one match at once.

This new water-screen format allowed the viewers up to at least three miniature water screens, that was how citizens from the Northern Kingdom could watch up to three Northern academy teams they favoured, and if there was another team they wanted to see badly, they would crush one of the miniature water screens before them and use their mana to form the next one they were interested in.

However, the main trend was still that mages of each kingdom mostly watched teams that came from their own kingdom.

Apart from the water screens that filled the arena, there was also a side display that showed the ranking of those with the highest kill points.

Since Alec already had the shield put up before him protecting the light gem, he didn’t see any need to do anything more, so he erected a chair made of earth and devoid of any dirt before he sat on it.

He planned to watch Legion, who had just landed on the ground, though the mission was to defend the tower, however right now the opponents Alec was supposed to face couldn’t even find time to aim at his gem, as they had their hands full with Legion, who had been unleashed to clear them out.

While Legion was still in a descending phase after leaping from the tower, every shot of the robots below had been redirected at him. However, thanks to the special ability he’d activated, the spherical light shield surrounding him absorbed all the damage.

And by the time he hit the ground, a small sonic boom rang out as the earth caved beneath his feet, at that exact moment, the Bastion’s Blast Shield shattered, its ripple flaring out as the barrier reached its maximum damage threshold.

Once it had taken enough, it detonated, unleashing an explosion in a 150-meter radius around him.

Normally, Bastion’s Blast Shield covers only a thirty-meter radius, but after Legion’s evolution the ability fused fully with him; so as long as his mental power is strong enough, the special attack’s reach can be greatly extended.

Those unlucky enough to be within that 150 meters were scorched by the blast, and that wasn’t all, as an EMP effect rolled over them, leaving many enemies in a paused, disabled state.

In Legion’s right hand was a new weapon Alec had never seen in action, though he had been the one to purchase the blueprint so Legion could craft it, because he knew it was a notch above the rest, however this was still his first time witnessing it first-hand.

It is a weapon called the Shadowforge Repeater: a compact rifle built to dominate short- to mid-range engagements.

In Legion’s left hand was the Fragment Gun, functionally similar to a shotgun, but evolved far beyond that limitation this version had four barrels, a magical switch that could slot a power gem to alter the bullets’ attributes, and a frame that was etched with advanced inscriptions and runes.

However, the Fragment Gun wasn’t the primary weapon Legion intended to use right now.

He’d only crafted it as a secondary piece in case the Shadowforge repeater gets hooked. So, as soon as he landed, he swung his left hand behind him, where the waiting machinations locked onto the weapon and folded around it, encasing it as if it had always belonged there.

He then proceeded to thrust his left hand forward, as ten medium Rubik’s cubes popped out from his hand guard; before they even hit the ground, they transformed, and in about a split second his ten captain-ranked cyborgs stood before him.

They swiftly read the situation they were in and they didn’t waste a second as they each forged a weapon instantly, then raised them, aiming at the motionless machines ahead.

“FIRE!”

At that single command from Legion, they opened up on the crowd of iron robots, among the golems, three led the charge forward while the rest spread around behind them, the Tank-class cyborgs numbered 4, 5, and 6—while No. 6 activated Aegis’s Dome Shield, creating a large, dome-like energy barrier with himself at the center to protect the squad from return fire.

The funny thing was, the enemies within range who could attack them were just recovering from the EMP and were immediately riddled with bullets from all ten cyborgs; Legion didn’t even need to lift a finger, it was an overkill.

Those who had been paused by the EMP were released only to be greeted by a hail of rounds, and even when they shot back, the fire bounced off the dome.

As one of the strongest Tank-class abilities, it could absorb massive damage; the only drawback it had was the fact that it couldn’t move along with the mage that casted it, the center it was summoned, is where it would stay until it was destroyed after taking the maximum damage it could absorb, so the moment they left the range of the Dome Shield they pretty much lost the cover it gave.

In fact at the moment, they didn’t need to move, they had practice targets in front of them.

It was overkill, Legion simply watched from behind as his squad wiped out every robot in the first wave before the second wave could even arrive.

Legion glanced up at Alec, who sat on the tower with legs crossed, and Alec gave a slight nod in response, he could tell Legion was angling for praise after a clean sweep.

While Alec enjoyed some leisure time since Legion and his units were handling his business, the outside was in an uproar, because he had entered the top-ten ranking.

Normally, simply entering the top-ten ranking would draw the crowd’s attention to the team, But when one of the teams in the top ten consists of a single mage, the shock is obvious.

Argent Guild Team (10 members)

Bloodline Academy (5 members)

Ashmaw Academy (5 members)

School of Silent Night (5 members)

War God Mage Academy (10 members)

Battle Mage Academy (5 members)

War God Mage Academy Team 2 (1 member)

Blade Clan Team (5 members)

Shaolin Temple Academy (10 members)

Crimson Dawn Academy (10 members)

The list appeared in that order, with kill points hidden, even so, everyone understood that for Alec, who is a single individual to break into the top ten, then he had to be killing more than many full ten-man squads.

And he wasn’t clinging to tenth position where skeptics could have downplayed his achievements, rather he was at the seventh position, above three other elite teams.

Then, as if that weren’t enough, he surged to sixth position , dropping the Battle Mage Academy to seventh.

And the moment the crowd noticed, countless strands of mana stretched toward the sixth slot, shaping miniature water screens to display his feed, as they were all desperate to see how he was tearing through opponents so easily even while being a single person, he

was practically competing with other elite teams at killing speed.
