THE GOD EATER

Black Chain asked with a curious tone, ”If we do all of this and it turns out that they are lying, wouldn’t we have bought and distributed the meters for nothing? What do we do then?”

”I am sure that they are lying,” the moose said with a scoff. ”And if they are not lying, it would mean that they have been bearing the burden of their expansion all along, which means they should be close to their limit and ready to drop at any moment.”

”Anyway, I will learn something from it. So I don’t think it can be a waste of time.”

Black Chain nodded and said, ”Alright. I’ll do it.”

As for that feeling of being a servant to this Gemini whose usefulness is being ordered around at the whim of his master, he killed it just as it sprouted within him.

Unfortunately, the Nature God seemed intent on keeping the feeling alive because the feeling of being a servant came back to life when the Nature God said, ”Look at us. We’re partners on our way to dominating this Domain.”

”I am the brain while you’re the brawn. I make the ideas, and you execute them. Together, nothing can stop us.”

’I see why you didn’t ask for my opinion. You think I am stupid,’ Black Chain thought with a deprecating chuckle.

He was displeased, but he didn’t let his emotions get in his way. After exchanging more unnecessary pleasantries with the giant moose, he left to execute the mission he was given.

The first mission was to spread the news that the Apex Sect and the Olympic Sect were lying about the benefits they were promising. Those sharing it claimed it because only these two sects offered up to a 300% boost to lifespan with each advancement.

They said, ”If something is too good to be true, it is most likely a lie.”

Even without proof, their lies spread like wildfire and slowed the expansion of many sects. The Olympic Sect was the least affected by this unfounded lie because its disciples possessed the Power Identification Metac, which they could use to check their lifespan at any moment.

With the Power Identification Metac, they could see in real time whether their lifespan increased or decreased, which made them more resistant to the rumor that the sect was lying about its benefits.

However, the Olympic Sect was still affected since only its disciples could use the Power Identification Metac. New recruits didn’t have access to it, and they were more susceptible to rumors, so fewer people joined the Olympic Sect each day.

When the Nature God saw the progress of his lies, he burst out laughing, ’Ahahaha.”

”That’s the spirit. Let’s throw everything into disarray. Let chaos reign.”

”On the one hand, I want the lie to continue to brew until it becomes thick enough to dispel. But on the other hand, I want to shatter the faith that the disciples of the Olympic Sect have and let my sect have a field day with the leftovers.”

The sight of the mortals losing faith in the two sects was a treat to his eyes. But a treat was only that. It wouldn’t help him increase the size of his sect, especially since the longer the lie goes on, the more the mortals will distrust every sect, including the Nature Sect.

Plus, without an impartial way to confirm whether the lifespan they gained is true or false, mortals would gravitate to the only available option: the Power Identification Metac of the Olympic Sect.

He didn’t want to see all his work go to helping his enemy, so he spent the resources he’d recently accumulated to buy the life value meter. Then he sent them to Black Chain to distribute.

”There goes the celestial gold I worked so hard to loot,” he said with heartache.

”Anyway, it is an investment. It is not a loss, so I will get it back,” he said to encourage himself. ”I will get a bigger return when those two fellows collapse, and the market for mortals recovers to the normal level.”

On that day, gray cylindrical pillars fell from the sky all over the Blessed Heaven World and the super worlds. The grey pillars struck the ground and sank in like nails hammered into wood.

Then a voice rang throughout the world, saying, ”These are Life Value Meters. They are a gift from the Nature God, who has heard the plight of mortals and has decided to help every living being by offering them a way to tell when they are being lied to by false gods.”

”To use them, touch them. The pillars will produce white and black rings from the bottom rising to the top. Each white ring is worth one year of lifespan, and the black rings are worth one unit of Entropy each.”

”Some of the white and black rings will also have a touch of red. The total number of white rings that appear is the maximum lifespan, and the proportion of reddish white rings is the amount of lifespan that has already been used up.”

”In similar fashion, the total number of black rings that appear is the maximum capacity for Entropy, while the reddish black rings correspond to the proportion of Entropy that has been used so far.”

”It goes without saying that when you reach your limit of lifespan, you will die. The same goes for your Entropy. When you reach your limit of Entropy, you will die no matter how much lifespan you have left.”

”This is a blessing from the Nature God. If you find that your sect has been lying to you, the Nature Sect is always open to you. In the Nature Sect, we don’t lie to people.”

The mortals didn’t know exactly where the grey pillars or the voice offering instructions came from. They thought those things were miracles from the Nature God, but the other Dao Lords knew that Black Chain was the one behind everything.
