THE GOD EATER

”Excellent choice,” the moose said with a smile. ”You will not regret this.”

”That is yet to be seen,” Black Chain said noncommittally. ”I am paying a heavy price after all.”

But the moose continued to chuckle and say, ”Maybe you’re right. Maybe you will regret this partnership. But you can take comfort in the fact that you don’t have a choice.”

”You have to partner with a Gemini and give up on your sect. Since your sect is dying, it makes sense to cut your losses and trade in your manpower for a reliable supply of lifespan.”

This was a sore spot for Black Chain, and he didn’t want to talk about it further. So he changed the subject, saying, ”What do you need me to do, and when do you want me to do it?”

”Straight into business. I like that,” the giant moose said with an impressed tone.

”It seems it was a good idea to work with you. My siblings are used to a life of luxury, so they like to do things slowly. Being fast and straightforward is good too. Especially since we have a lot to do and so little time to do it.”

”Your main job is to help me use the manpower of your sect to invade worlds. I have picked some worlds for you. All you need to do is send your disciples, both mortal and divine ones, to the location.”

Then the giant moose went into detail, explaining how to invade the shielded worlds. Black Chain listened attentively, taking note of every single part of the plan.

Many times in the explanation, he wanted to stop the moose to ask questions. But he decided to hold off until after the explanation.

However, when the explanation reached the point about setting up a territory in the super world, he had to ask, saying, ”Is it a must for it to be a rank 9?”

The moose said in reply, ”Yes. Only a rank 9 being can forcefully open a channel into the world.”

Before Tepid Scholar could ask why the moose didn’t do this part himself, the moose said, ”I know what you’re thinking. Why can’t I invade the world myself and put my avatar on the line?”

”The truth is that I can, but I don’t want to. I don’t want to because putting my avatar on the line will make it difficult to respond when someone invades me.”

”I can’t invade a world while being able to defend myself with my full power. This is one of the prices to pay for the chance to annex another world.”

”But I want to be ready to defend myself while invading other worlds. This is why I need your help to invade worlds.”

Black Chain thought that the explanation was reasonable, but he still wasn’t comfortable with the prospect of sending an avatar into the lower realm to invade a world.

In fact, he didn’t want to send his avatar to do anything at all. This wasn’t just because his avatar stood the risk of being killed in the world it was invading, but also because of Lord Ragnarok.

Just recently, about a month ago, he sent down his avatars, and they were all captured and sold off. He managed to recover only one avatar. That experience was still fresh and painful to him.

Tepid Scholar had lost one avatar and had remained salty about it for over a thousand years. He had lost four avatars, so he believed that he deserved to be a little bit concerned about putting himself in that kind of dangerous situation.

He didn’t express his concerns directly, though. Instead, he said, ”Didn’t you ask me to help you spread your sect? How come my job has become invading worlds for you?”

”You can only blame that Ragnarok bumpkin and my sibling who calls himself the Apex God. The two of them have turned the world upside down with their antics.”

”The sect market has become volatile now. It is too risky, and there is not much profit to be had. Let those two keep fighting for now. When they crash and burn, I can swoop in and sweep away the mortals.”

”How are they doing what they are doing anyway? How are they making profits when they are literally giving away lifespan, ”Black Chain asked in confusion.

He had always wanted to know why Ragnarok and the Apex God were in such a rush to buy mortals with lifespan. He had asked many Geminis many times, but no one had bothered to tell him.

Unfortunately, this time would also be like the previous times he asked. Instead of explaining how the Root of Life Ability worked, the Nature God skirted the subject by saying, ”What profit? I’m confident none of them is making any profit right now.”

”The two of them must be making immense losses to their lifespan. In fact, I won’t be surprised if they are lying to their recruits about their lifespan and the lifespan boost.”

The moose laughed as it said, ”I am sure that the Apex is cheating somehow. As for that Ragnarok, what he is doing is pure madness.”

Black Chain knew that the moose was withholding critical information from him, but he went along with it by saying, ”He is helping his disciples gain lifespan by running his Supreme Metac non-stop for them. The Entropy for all of that assistance must be heavy by now.”

Upon hearing this, the moose laughed harder, ”Hahahaha. What a fool!”

”He is definitely thinking that he can withstand the Entropy by offloading it with his Divine Mountain. But is the offloading of Entropy free? Doesn’t it cost lifespan to use?”

”And the ratio of Entropy to lifespan during the offload is 1 to 1. How can he make a profit when all of the lifespan he gains through devouring has to go into removing the Entropy he gains while gaining the lifespan? Honestly, how can anyone be so foolish?”
