THE GOD EATER

She didn’t doubt the Sword Mastero at all on this matter. Not only did Sword Mastero have no need to lie, but she could also see that the difference in the dragon’s power and Sword Mastero’s power was too massive.

Because of what she could see, either Sword Mastero was slacking off and wanted the dragon to humiliate him before killing him, or the dragon had really found a way to bypass the suppression of Authority.

Even so, she insisted, saying, ”Maybe he used an illusion on you to make you believe that he avoided the suppression and is stronger than you. Maybe he is not actually stronger than you. Maybe it is all in your head.”

She was speaking from experience, but Sword Mastero didn’t appreciate her suggestions. In fact, everything she said seemed to pour salt on his wounds and make him angrier.

Sword Mastero snapped in anger, saying, ”I am looking at the fight right now. If my avatar is being fooled, I should be able to see it. Are you saying that both my avatar and I are fools?”

Heavenly Eye shrugged and said, ”Anyway, I can’t help you. My hands are tied.”

She also added helpfully, ”Your eyes are good, so you can tell that I’ve used up all the pathways I have for this operation. So if you want help, ask someone else.”

Sword Mastero could indeed see that she was using her two pathways. As for whether these two pathways are the only two that she had, no one could be sure.

In fact, since she is such a chronic liar, he is inclined to believe that she has more pathways that she is hiding. The only thing he dares to accept as truth is that she has used both of the pathways she used to establish a sect.

There could be other pathways that she didn’t use to establish a sect. If she really had hidden pathways, he knew that there was no way she would admit it and that there was no chance she would use the hidden pathways to save him now.

So he decided to turn to the other Dao Lords who had more pathways to spare. He believed it would be a better use of his time to get them to help him than to get Heavenly Eye admit that she is lying about having only two pathways.

But before he could say something, Martial Will said, ”Don’t look at me. My Strength Pathway is too weak and won’t be of much use. You should ask someone else.”

This made Sword Mastero say, ”I wasn’t going to ask you anyway.”

Then he turned to Tepid Scholar and said, ”Please help me.”

Tepid Scholar thought about his request for a long time. In that silence, Sword Mastero’s anxiety rose to new levels.

He had to be anxious because the defeat of his avatar affected the main body in more than one way. Aside from the loss of his Grand Dao, there is also the loss of lifespan to worry about.

In fact, for every second that his avatar suffered in the dragon’s external body, the more severe his loss in lifespan will become. His Grand Dao would be lost if his avatar were killed, but he is already losing a lot of lifespan right now.

As for which is more important, it is definitely his Grand Dao. But lifespan is also important to him because he needs it.

The lifespan that his avatar is using is actually his lifespan. So every loss of lifespan in the avatar is already affecting his true body. Because of this, he has to decide between giving up on the avatar early or supporting it to the very end.

Of course, he doesn’t want to lose his Grand Dao, so he wants to keep supporting the avatar. But if he were to continue supporting his avatar in its current state, even if the avatar eventually survives, the loss to his lifespan will be immense. And if the avatar still dies, then his true body will also be near death.

These are the things that are at stake for him. It is why every second that Tepid Scholar spent on making the decision was every second of painful loss to him. Anyone in his shoes would get more and more agitated as time passed without a definite answer.

Fortunately, Tepid Scholar finally made a decision. The Dao Lord of the Myriad Phenomenon Sect said to Sword Mastero, ”I can’t help you. It is too risky.”

Tepid Scholar knew that this wasn’t the answer that Sword Mastero wanted to hear. But he still went ahead to say it because there was too much at stake for him too.

In fact, he had already made a decision as soon as he was asked. He wanted to reject the request for help immediately. But he didn’t jump to answer and instead spent some time trying to find reasons to help Sword Mastero. So even though he had refused to help at the end of the day, he truly wanted to help Sword Mastero.

His first instinct was to refuse to help because this wouldn’t be the first time that something like this was happening to him. In the past, a long time ago, for one reason or another, he had gotten cocky and overreached. This gave Black Chains the opportunity to kill one of his avatars.

The avatar that was killed was the one created using the Supreme Metac of the Forging Pathway. When Black Chains killed that avatar, the Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect took the Forging Supreme Metac and spent some time refining it.

A few years later, Black Chains gained access to the Forging Pathway and took control of the Forging Pathway in the Seas of Worlds. That was a great loss to Tepid Scholar.

It was because of that great loss that he created only one avatar despite having three pathways. He truly could only bear to risk one avatar.
