The Entry-plundering Demon Hunter

Chapter 124: Chapter 124: A Beast in the Restricted Area, Called Shi

8:15 PM.

The bar district.

A police car was parked on the side of the road.

Chu Zhengxiong, Mo Yanfeng, and Yin Xiaoyu.

They sat inside the car, observing their surroundings.

As Demon Hunters, they were now acting as on-duty police officers.

And they were responsible for standing guard here...

Suddenly, a phone rang without warning.

Chu Zhengxiong quickly pulled out his phone.

A glance at the caller ID showed it was a call from Lin Yi.

He chuckled. ”Hey, kid, you’re not asleep yet? Why are you calling me again? Aren’t you afraid your cousin will find out and nag you about it?”

As soon as he finished speaking, Lin Yi’s voice came from the other end of the line.

”I’m not at home; I’m out right now.

Brother Chu, I want to ask you something. Have you ever seen a demonic beast that can merge with the darkness, like a shadow?”

”Merge with darkness? Like a shadow...”

”No, wait. Kid, where are you?”

”I’m over in Fuyang District. I just encountered a demonic beast like that. It completely merged with the night.

But the way it moved was like a shadow, with no substantial physical form!”

Lin Yi repeated himself.

The next moment, Chu Zhengxiong’s expression changed abruptly.

”Like a shadow... Holy shit, don’t tell me you ran into an aberrant beast?”

”Aberrant beast?”

Lin Yi said, puzzled.

Instantly, Mo Yanfeng and Yin Xiaoyu, who were also in the car, grew tense.

Chu Zhengxiong’s face was grim. ”Lin Yi, get out of there immediately!”

”Aberrant beasts are things you only find in the Restricted Area Battlefield. Based on your description, that’s an aberrant beast called a ’Devourer.’ It’s not something you can handle!”

”Leave that place right now, the farther the better!”

Even over the phone, Lin Yi could feel Chu Zhengxiong’s anxiety.

He had heard Chu Zhengxiong mention it before.

In the New District, there was a place called the [Restricted Area Battlefield].

Just like the [Bloody Battlefield], it was tightly controlled by the military.

Even people from their Demon Hunting Bureau couldn’t enter easily without approval.

Chu Zhengxiong had said that the beasts inside the [Restricted Area Battlefield] were on a completely different level than the demonic beasts of the Old District.

They weren’t native ferocious beasts.

They had crawled out from underground caverns hundreds of years ago.

This was precisely why the [Bloody Battlefield] existed.

After that great war, the ancient martial arts masters of the past hadn’t been able to completely eradicate these beasts.

They had only managed to push them back, outside the areas of human habitation.

And that place became a Restricted Area.

Now known as the [Restricted Area Battlefield].

The abilities of those beasts were endless and impossible to guard against.

’But why would they appear in the Old District?’

It wasn’t just Lin Yi who was puzzled; Chu Zhengxiong had grown tense as well.

”Did you hear me? Get out of there now!” Chu Zhengxiong repeated.

On the other end of the line, Lin Yi nodded. ”Okay!”

After the call ended.

Mo Yanfeng and Yin Xiaoyu both leaned in closer.

”What’s going on? An aberrant beast made its way to the Old District?”

Chu Zhengxiong nodded with a solemn expression. ”From Lin Yi’s description just now, it’s a Devourer from the Restricted Area!”

”I just find it strange. Why would an aberrant beast show up in the Old District? The most elite troops are the Defenders there. It should be impossible for those aberrant beasts to break through the Restricted Area!”

Hearing this, Mo Yanfeng also nodded.

”Could Lin Yi have been mistaken? Maybe it was just a demonic beast?”

”But whether it’s true or not, we have to go check it out ourselves!”

”We also need to report this to Captain Han and Captain Mo Ya!”

”If an aberrant beast really has broken into the Old District, we’ll probably have to sound a level-one combat alert!”

Mo Yanfeng said, his face grave.

Chu Zhengxiong pondered for a moment before getting out of the car.

”Old Mo, you and Xiaoyu keep watch here. I’m going to Fuyang District to take a look!”

”Don’t tell Old Han and the others yet. It’s not too late to tell them after I’ve confirmed it!”

He then walked over to his motorcycle.

He took out a pink helmet, put it on, and with a tremendous roar,

he rode off straight toward the residential district...

「Fuyang District.」

Two security guards, carrying flashlights and batons,

had just finished a patrol of the residential area.

This was their last patrol of the night.

Once they returned to the security office, they planned to lie down and rest.

”My wife made some scallion pancakes today. Wanna have some to fill our stomachs when we get back?” one of the guards said with a smile.

The other guard nodded in agreement.

”We can make a couple of instant noodle bowls to have as a soup. I’ve got a few red sausages too, I’ll bring them out to eat!”

The two men looked at each other and smiled.

As they spoke, their stomachs let out a series of GROWLS.

Both security guards were hungry.

Their pace couldn’t help but quicken.

The district wasn’t too dark; there were streetlights all along the path.

The incandescent light clearly illuminated the road surface.

However, the flowerbeds behind the streetlights were rather dark.

The two guards walked along the path, occasionally shining their flashlights around.

After confirming that there was nothing unusual, they continued toward the security office.

There were three guards on the night shift in total.

Because it wasn’t safe at night, they only needed to patrol the district once before 9:00 PM.

Then they could return to the security office to rest and sleep.

Tonight was the same as always. After the two of them returned,

they would have a bite to eat with their colleague who stayed behind in the office, and then go to sleep.

Their shift would end early the next morning...

But just as they were about to walk into the security office,

they entered a stretch of path with no streetlights.

It wasn’t too dark, though; the light from a distance was enough for them to see the ground clearly.

And at that very moment,

one of the guards suddenly looked back as if by reflex.

”Who’s there?”

He immediately shone his flashlight in that direction.

The other guard clearly hadn’t noticed anything unusual.

He swept his light around a few times before saying, ”Don’t be so paranoid. All the residents are asleep at this hour, and even the demonic beasts aren’t coming out now.”

”Unless it’s a thief. If one dared to come in, I guarantee they wouldn’t see tomorrow’s sunrise!”

After hearing his colleague’s reassuring words,

the guard’s nerves calmed a little.

”Yeah, right. ’Wouldn’t see tomorrow’s sunrise’?”

”Who’s bragging? Let me tell you, back in school, I was a Rank-3 Martial Artist. I just don’t know what happened later; I could never advance any further!”

”If I’d been able to advance even a little, I never would have ended up as your colleague. I would’ve been off to a Martial Arts University long ago!”

”Alright, alright, you’re getting more and more ridiculous. Rank-3? Old Deng is Rank-4, and didn’t he still fail to get into a Martial Arts University and end up as a guard here?”

”That’s him...”

As the two were joking around,

the guard who was speaking suddenly faltered, his expression changing slightly. He stopped talking.

He stood there with his head down, silent.

His colleague walked a few steps ahead and, noticing he hadn’t followed,

turned back and asked, puzzled, ”Hey, what are you standing there for? We’re almost there. Let’s go eat!”

However, the guard kept his head down and didn’t answer.

The colleague found this strange and turned back.

He saw that the guard standing there with his head down had started to tremble.

The trembling slowly turned into convulsions.

The colleague’s expression changed dramatically. ”Daqiang? Daqiang, what’s wrong with you? Are you not feeling well? Or...”

The next moment, the guard, Daqiang, snapped his head up.

When his colleague saw Daqiang’s now-hideously contorted face and scarlet eyes,

he was so frightened that he was just about to scream.

Daqiang grabbed his colleague’s neck.

With a slight squeeze, there was a SNAP.

The neck was broken...

Daqiang opened his fang-filled mouth and bit down on his colleague.

The VROOOM of a motorcycle engine

shattered the silent night like a thunderclap.

It was an irritating sound to anyone it passed, especially those who had just fallen asleep.

Woken up by the noise, they couldn’t help but curse a few times.

This continued until Chu Zhengxiong arrived outside Fuyang District on his heavy motorcycle.

He pulled out his phone, about to call Lin Yi.

Just then, a person wearing a Black Impermanence mask walked out.

”Brother Chu, you really need to tone down that bike. I could hear you coming from ten kilometers away!”

As soon as the words fell, Chu Zhengxiong looked up.

When he saw the Black Impermanence mask,

he was so startled he cursed, ”Holy shit, what the hell is that?”
