The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 637: Chapter 636: Lone Wolf

Ah Yuan pursed his lips, as if only such a noble carriage was worthy of Miss Wenjin’s purity. The green cloth carriage was too simple, too inconspicuous.

So, was Miss Wenjin leaving this green cloth carriage to sit in that luxurious carriage? Then would he, as the driver, be useless?

Driving for Huangfu Yuxuan was Cui Huai, and he felt a pair of cold, sinister eyes staring hard at him, giving him the feeling of being watched by a wolf in the wild, as if the wolf had already bared its sharp teeth, ready to pounce and bite his throat at any moment.

Cui Huai frowned slightly, accurately catching the source of the gaze, and discovered it was the driver of a green cloth carriage.

He was somewhat puzzled; wasn’t this driver a servant of the Xia Mansion? Such a gaze was utterly disrespectful.

Moreover, a mere driver, who gave him the courage to look at people with such eyes?

He returned a sharp, icy stare, but Ah Yuan was unfazed, glaring hard at him, staring at that carriage, and also at the wealthy young master peeking out from inside the carriage.

Such a gaze, Huangfu Yuxuan of course noticed too, but a mere servant was beneath his notice, and besides, now wasn’t the time to bother.

Ah Yuan lowered his voice and said, ”Miss, would you like me to drive them away?”

He didn’t care who came, but he knew this person was not liked by Miss Wenjin, and with a single word from Miss Wenjin, he could pounce over and become her claws.

Xia Wenjin saw Ah Yuan’s straightened back and the lone wolf-like aura emanating from him. She reached out and lightly patted his back, saying, ”Ah Yuan, remember, when you don’t have the ability to protect yourself, don’t use your gaze to invite trouble!”

Ah Yuan lowered his eyes, his back no longer as fierce as a knife, and said softly, ”Yes, Miss!”

In front of the black-hearted young master and the old witch, he would hide his eyes. But in front of Miss Xia, he was unwilling to hide. He wanted her to know he could do anything for her!

Wasn’t her words just now a reminder but also a concern for him?

Both of their voices had been very low, and given the distance, no one on the other side heard them.

Huangfu Yuxuan got off the carriage, presenting himself as the elegant and graceful young master, saying with a refined smile, ”Today is the day Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu return home. On such an important occasion, I must attend.” He continued, ”My carriage is spacious. Why not invite Uncle Xia and Brother Xia to join for the ride?”

Of course, who he really wanted to invite was Xia Wenjin, hoping to travel together with her in the spacious carriage.

However, Xia Wenjin’s attitude was firm. The best plan of Gongyang Puyu was clearly not feasible, so he could only resort to the middle strategy, winning over Xia Wanqing and Xia Sichen first.

He was also somewhat annoyed; it seemed Xia Wenjin had already boarded the carriage. If he had arrived earlier, could he have managed to invite Xia Wenjin as well? Now, asking her to get off and onto his carriage was clearly impossible—a missed opportunity for sure.

He unconsciously took another look at Xia Wenjin’s carriage. The fierce-gazed driver had already lowered his eyes, as if that gaze had been a mere illusion, and the curtains were tightly drawn, with Xia Wenjin not even sparing him a glance.

The hand in Huangfu Yuxuan’s sleeve involuntarily clenched. He would use Gongyang Puyu’s methods, one by one, until he brought this woman home. Then he would amply repay the indifference she showed now.

He squinted slightly, thinking how beautiful, sharp, clever, and spirited she was... apart from a somewhat lower status, she was becoming increasingly intriguing to him!

In fact, thinking about it, her status wasn’t low at all.

Noble ladies in the court enjoyed superior status because they had powerful family backing.

Xia Wenjin had the entire Haotian Village behind her; such power, while not comparable in the open to a First Rank official, in secret? In Jianghu?

So now, Huangfu Yuxuan thought Xia Wenjin was the best choice, in every way outstanding, in every way making him unable to give up.

His invitation made Xia Wanqing hesitate for a moment. Before Xia Wanqing could speak, Xia Sichen had already smiled and said, ”It’s rare for Young Master Xuan to be so gracious; nothing would be better. Why don’t I join Young Master Xuan?”

Since they were already here, it certainly wouldn’t do to turn them away.

Rather than letting the old man be persuaded, better to go oneself.

As Xia Sichen spoke, he walked over to Huangfu Yuxuan.

Xia Wanqing, hearing this, sat back down in the carriage.

That was just as well; it was better not to interact much with Huangfu Yuxuan these days—better to wait for the outcome before deciding.

Though he wasn’t worried about being exposed, he simply didn’t want to engage in any semblance of deceit.

Huangfu Yuxuan was quite pleased with Xia Sichen’s attitude. Could this be a decisive victory? But such wouldn’t be enough; he said, ”Uncle Xia, why not come over too? It would save a carriage!”

Xia Sichen said, ”That can’t be. Doesn’t the carriage still need to fetch Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu?”

Xia Wanqing laughed, ”Sichen is right. Besides, you young people have things to talk about. Adding this old fellow might spoil your fun!”

Thinking about the two coming out of the jail, Huangfu Yuxuan indeed found it hard to accept sharing a carriage and thus didn’t insist further. But he replied with a smile, ”Uncle Xia, don’t say that. Your Jianghu experience and life knowledge are treasures we could learn endlessly from. Listening to your teachings would be worth more than anything!”

Xia Wanqing laughed heartily twice, noting how the man really knew how to speak, his words so pleasing to the ear. He hoped he wasn’t like so.

Huangfu Yuxuan first let Xia Sichen onto the carriage, following afterwards himself.

Throughout, Xia Wenjin never glanced over, nor spoke a word, leaving Huangfu Yuxuan with some regret but also reminding himself not to rush.

As the carriages moved, Xia Wanqing’s carriage was at the front, Xia Wenjin’s green cloth carriage in the middle, and Huangfu Yuxuan’s luxurious carriage at the back.

This made Cui Huai feel discontented.

His young master was the Imperial Grandson, how could they be at the back? Such disrespect, truly unforgivable!

But his young master had stated that Xia Wanqing was an elder, deserving to be at the front, while Miss Xia, being a woman, was positioned in the middle for protection—his own carriage naturally going last.

Cui Huai noticed the driver’s contemptuous look from the green cloth carriage and felt even more displeased, though unlike Hong Jie, he buried the discomfort.

The green cloth carriage ahead seemed intentional, speeding and slowing, neither letting him approach nor distancing too much.

Cui Huai coldly smirked; that senseless fool probably didn’t realize that Miss Xia would marry into their family later.

Once Xia Wenjin was married over, that driver would be under his command, all subordinate to him. By then, he would surely vent this grudge!
