The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 627: Chapter 626: Self-Mockery

Xia Wenjin’s words startled Xia Sichen. He quickly stepped forward, rushed to Xia Wenjin, and scrutinized her several times, seeing her calm demeanor, only then did he relax.

He feigned shock and patted his chest to calm himself, saying, ”Wenjin, what nonsense are you talking? You said you weren’t overthinking, but what you said made the hair on my body stand up!”

Xia Wenjin snorted lightly. This brother, who dared to catch snakes at Haoran Mountain’s back mountain at three, and rode wild boars as horses at four, was capable of scaring the heavens, could he really be frightened?

However, she knew something was not quite right with her.

Such melancholic words about the passing of time are really not suitable.

Just now, she didn’t know how, such thoughts just arose.

Even if others don’t know the meaning of living, she knows very well what the meaning of her life is.

She asked, ”Didn’t you say you were going out drinking with friends? How come you’re back?”

Xia Sichen said seriously, ”I had a dream. Today is not an auspicious day, so it’s not suitable to go out. I turned back at the door. Such a pity for the private room I booked!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

This lie is really half-hearted.

She couldn’t help but expose him, ”Were you dreaming in broad daylight? If you don’t want to go, just say so!”

Xia Sichen’s serious face immediately crumbled, and he quickly switched to a mournful expression, ”Sigh, you’ve seen through me. Wenjin, your brother’s troubled!”

”What’s happened?”

”Nothing happened!” Xia Sichen said in distress, ”You know, your brother is handsome, debonair, a renowned Jade-faced Good-looking Gentleman in the Jianghu. It’s normal for three or four admirers, both for my talent and martial arts, to follow me. But your brother is principled and self-disciplined, definitely can’t accept! They found out about the private room I booked, so I can’t go. But it was hard for me to book that room, Wenjin, why don’t you go for me?”

Xia Wenjin shook her head, amused, ”Your romantic debts, you settle by yourself!”

Xia Sichen said pitifully, ”Wenjin, we are siblings from the same parents, the closest people in this world, can you bear to see your graceful brother sink into a love nest? Besides, I’m not asking you to fend off admirers, just your appearance there would make them think they got the information wrong and retreat.”

Xia Wenjin looked at Xia Sichen’s antics, she knew he was just making things up.

This brother is usually unreliable, has a lively temperament, and is quite the performer.

However, her heart felt warm because she knew Xia Sichen was putting on a show just to make her happier, trying to divert her attention.

Even hoping she would go out and not sulk at home.

Xia Wenjin said, ”How about we go out for a good meal, my treat!”

”That’s okay!” Xia Sichen sighed, ”Tomorrow, Uncle Hua and Uncle Gu are coming out, it’s going to be a day of drinking without mercy, so I need to save space in my stomach, or I’ll be drunk flat!”

Xia Wenjin couldn’t help but laugh. In the village, both happy and sad matters are entrusted to wine, tomorrow is indeed bound to be a good drink.

That’s why she added another cook today.

Tomorrow, no need to go to the restaurant, let these old brothers drink good wine and eat good dishes at home, she’ll arrange everything!

Xia Sichen said eagerly, ”Will you go? The roasted meat by Absolutely Taste Gourmet is delicious, just take it as a way to relax, right?”

”Alright!” Xia Wenjin nodded. Absolutely Taste Gourmet, such a familiar name, in her past life, it was her master’s secret name, which allowed her to cook well.

Just thinking about it, gave rise to some self-mockery.

In her past life she learned so much, medicine, poison, culinary arts, business, music, chess, painting, military tactics, leading troops... all for just a smile of appreciation from that person, to let that person feel her sincere heart.

But her sincere heart was fed to the dogs.

What she got in return was a cup of poisoned wine, a blazing fire!

Seeing Xia Wenjin finally agreeing to go, Xia Sichen felt proud and specially reminded, ”Don’t forget to bring me a portion back!”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

If you’re so eager to eat, why not go together!

No idea what he’s up to.

But she didn’t think much.

If there’s anyone in this world who wouldn’t harm her, it’ll probably be her father and her brother!

Huangfu Jingchen, chef of Absolutely Taste Gourmet, wasn’t a first-timer here; he had already drunk with Xia Sichen here. Yet, the Green Bamboo Private Room was his first time.

The private room was on the right by the window on the second floor, offering a great view. When he mentioned Xia Sichen’s name, the attendant led him there.

Huangfu Jingchen felt both excited and anxious.

It had been three days since they last met at a small restaurant; he was feeling uneasy and had thought countless times of looking for Wenjin, yet worried she’d be annoyed.

But the thought of soon seeing Xia Wenjin made him happy.

When the attendant came to ask what he’d like to eat, knowing that someone hadn’t arrived yet, they smiled knowingly and served him a pot of fragrant tea.

The scent of roasting meat faintly lingered outside, teeming with allure and appetite.

Huangfu Jingchen preoccupied, didn’t feel hungry.

He poured himself a cup of tea, sipping slowly, not exactly tasting tea but calming his heart.

One cup of tea gone, the person he awaited hadn’t arrived.

Two cups down.

The pot of tea was finished too.

The person he awaited still hadn’t come.

Huangfu Jingchen’s demeanor slowly faded from initial excitement and anticipation into dejection.

Was it that Wenjin didn’t want to come?

She knew Xia Sichen wanted to give them an opportunity to meet, so she refused?

Did she not want to see him?

As his thoughts tangled in his mind, when the attendant came in, he quickly said, ”If a girl about fifteen or sixteen years old, this tall... comes in, let me know.” He described Xia Wenjin’s appearance.

Unexpectedly, the attendant smiled and said, ”You’re talking about Miss Xia, right?”

Huangfu Jingchen asked, ”You know Miss Xia?”

The attendant replied with a smile, ”Originally didn’t know, but after Miss Xia came in, she met the fourth boss, and after a few words, the boss happily led her to the guest room!”

Since he overheard the boss calling the lady Miss Xia, he figured out her surname was Xia.

Hearing Huangfu Jingchen describe Miss Xia so vividly, he immediately knew who it was.

So it turns out she met a familiar face and got delayed?

Huangfu Jingchen initially felt a bit sour, but quickly came to terms with it. Xia Sichen certainly didn’t inform her he’d be in this private room, she didn’t know he’d be here, and meeting a familiar face, naturally, she wouldn’t consider him.

Once they finish their greetings, Wenjin should then come over, right?
