The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!

Chapter 626: Chapter 625: Putting on Airs

Xia Wenjin was stunned. Too much on her mind? Was her mind really that burdened?

Xia Sichen continued, ”I’m really curious, what on earth did you encounter in Jianghu? How can a person change so drastically?”

Xia Wenjin was startled.

She certainly understood that at sixteen, she bore the worries of someone aged twenty-four.

Her heart was weathered, mature, and her considerations were unlike those of a fifteen or sixteen-year-old. When her father first saw her in Jianghu, didn’t he suspect her?

Xia Sichen, however, did not suspect anything, he just tapped her nose, smiled and said, ”Alright, alright, don’t wear such a worried look. Clearly, you’re just a teenage girl, why on earth are you burdened with concerns even more than an old lady? Aren’t you afraid of growing old before your time?”

Xia Wenjin: ”...”

Still, she could feel Xia Sichen’s concern.

If only things were as simple as her brother said.

She knew the developments that were about to unfold, knew that the court would slip into chaos due to the Emperor’s illness and the absence of a Crown Prince. She knew the various princes would each wield their skills in Capital City, removing dissenters, and she knew that in the coming years, more officials would die from factional strife than in the past ten or twenty years...

Yes, she knew, she knew of many conspiracies, knew of many schemes, and knew that no one was truly innocent...

She knew who would die and who would be innocently dragged in...

But so what?

There was nothing she could say.

So, she advised her father to leave and advised her uncle not to cling to power, but her words were pale and powerless.

That night, Huangfu Jingchen also came by.

He felt the young couple were right, hiding his identity was his fault. If Wenjin didn’t forgive him, he would keep apologizing, once, twice!

Moreover, he knew that tomorrow would be the day Hua Yuanming and Gu Hongxin were released from prison, he wanted to see if there was anything he could help with.

He was genuine in his intentions, he knew how to sweet-talk, but what meaning did it hold? He truly wanted to lend a hand, at least to smooth the worries between Xia Wenjin’s brows.

The struggle in Xia Wenjin’s eyes was apparent to him, making him feel extremely guilty.

If it weren’t for him, perhaps Wenjin wouldn’t be so troubled?

At the entrance of Xia Mansion, he presented his visiting card, asking the keeper to announce his arrival.

Holding the gift, Jiang Ning’s eyes darted around, puzzled. His own young master and Miss Xia weren’t like this when they were in Jianghu. Why did they suddenly put on airs coming to Capital City?

Fortunately, after the doorman announced him, there was a quick reply. Xia Wanqing was home, and the doorman had handed the card to Xia Wanqing, who quickly instructed him to send the visitor away without letting him in.

Xia Wanqing also knew about the matters between Xia Wenjin and Huangfu Jingchen.

This boy who deceived Jin’er and caused her distress, letting him in now would only frustrate Jin’er more. He might as well play the villain!

The doorman complied as instructed.

However, he happened to meet Xia Sichen as he was heading out. Seeing the doorman in a hurry, holding a name card, Xia Sichen asked, ”Who’s here? Let me see!”

His father was renowned for being hospitable; receiving a card and showing no reaction meant he wasn’t planning to see the visitor. Xia Sichen obviously needed to check on this.

Seeing the name on the card, Xia Sichen raised an eyebrow and asked, ”What did the Village Chief say?”

The doorman replied, ”The Village Chief said not to see him! Just send him away!”

Xia Sichen chuckled, ”You delivered it to the wrong place. He came to see me, and you gave it to the Village Chief? The Chief doesn’t know him, of course, he wouldn’t see him. Alright, leave it to me!”

Well, even if he wasn’t there to see him, Xia Sichen opted to meet him first, saying it this way wasn’t exactly lying.

Hearing it was his own mistake, the doorman was worried the Young Village Chief would be angry, but seeing Xia Sichen smiling, he sighed in relief and scratched his head, ”Young Village Chief, don’t blame me, I can’t read...”

Xia Sichen patted his shoulder, ”I know, I know, it’s fine. We’re all brothers here, nothing to blame. Go on with your business now!”

After dispatching the doorman, Xia Sichen headed to the entrance himself.

Outside, Huangfu Jingchen waited quietly. Seeing Xia Sichen, his eyes lit up. Of course, he knew Xia Sichen didn’t have a bad impression of him; their acquaintance, though coming from adversity, made them friends.

Xia Sichen strolled out, smiling and said, ”You’re here to see Wenjin, right?”

Huangfu Jingchen nodded and said, ”Brother Sichen, please help me out!”

Xia Sichen’s gaze swept over him, the smile shimmering in his bright eyes, ”I can’t help you with that. My father is a man of his word, he won’t change his mind about you anytime soon. Wenjin, she’s mad at you for deceiving her and won’t meet you. If I help you, I might as well give up being her brother!”

Huangfu Jingchen hurriedly cupped his hands, earnestly saying, ”Brother Sichen, please say a few kind words for me to Wenjin! I made a mistake, I already realize it, please help me out!”

Xia Sichen gave Huangfu Jingchen another glance. Seeing him lower his stance and speak as he did was rare. He gently shook his head and said, ”I can’t decide this. I’ve said plenty of good things for you, but I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing. We’re people of Jianghu, you’re an Imperial Grandson, from different worlds. If I advise Wenjin to cast everything aside and follow her heart, how can Jianghu folk and Royal Family members truly be without barriers?”

Huangfu Jingchen quickly responded, ”I’m also Jianghu folk, Brother Sichen. I am Jianghu folk. Cast aside my father’s identity, my mother is genuine Jianghu folk, and I wander Jianghu. I prefer the freedom of Jianghu. If Wenjin doesn’t like my identity, I can just be a Jianghu person.”

The title of Princely Heir can go to Haichen!

Seeing his eager expression, Xia Sichen patted his shoulder, saying, ”Talking to me won’t help. You probably can’t get into this house now. Here’s the deal, Absolutely Delicious Chef, Bamboo Pavilion, I’ve reserved a spot. I’ll have Wenjin meet you there, and you two can talk it out yourselves!”

”Thank you, thank you, Brother Sichen!” Huangfu Jingchen bowed nearly to the ground.

Xia Sichen waved his hand, saying, ”You go first!”

Jiang Ning stepped forward immediately, offering a gift box, saying, ”My young master for Miss Xia!”

Xia Sichen laughed, ”Silly, bring it to the pavilion and give it yourself!”

He turned gracefully and went back in.

In the courtyard, Xia Wenjin stood beneath a tree, looking slightly upwards, but it was unclear whether she was looking at the leaves or pondering something.

Xia Sichen walked up briskly and said, ”Wenjin, why so glum? Is the weather not nice enough, or the day not beautiful?”

Xia Wenjin was used to Xia Sichen’s casual jabber, and without turning, she said, ”I’m not gloomy, I’m just contemplating, in life, like the fleeting fall of grass and trees, what is the meaning of living? Why do people live?”
