Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 90: Chapter 80 The Call at Sea Cautious Fran_2

Cassel would step in, probably still about those power and wealth things, at most some news of the royal treasure.

The previous king of Haifasardo loved her madly, leaking something to her was normal.”

Adrian suddenly asked, ”There’s a rumor I’ve always wanted to know, that when she was with the current king, the previous king helped them keep guard?”

Fran stayed silent, which basically meant he agreed.

He coughed and said, ”At that time, the old man was too old, unable to satisfy Cassel.

The crown prince could provide some security for her as well.”

Hill felt that since he became a magister, Fran and Adrian no longer excluded him from certain conversations. Did they assume he was an adult now?

Adrian said, ”Then Hill, don’t talk to her. I’ll wait for you in that Spencer city.

By the way, why hasn’t Spencer named the city yet?”

”They’re probably waiting for William to announce the capital relocation,” Fran said. ”The Spencer family is always very steady.”

Adrian likely rolled his eyes, and Fran seemed to smack him.

”Hill, don’t talk to that woman. I’ll head over first.” Adrian greeted Fran and then walked out.

”Mind your own business about that woman,” Fran still advised.

”Grandfather, she just said a few words to me, and every word turned out to be a lie,” Hill said. ”Even if I were a fool, I’d still flee.”

”The affection from the natural consciousness really does help a child like you,” Fran mused. ”But your grandmother was a half-elf and didn’t blend into nature like that.”

”It’s probably because of the magician lineage. The elf bloodline wasn’t suppressed by the Earth Bear bloodline, it must be very strong.” Without outsiders present, Hill spoke openly. ”My wood element skills, although few, are incredibly powerful.

Although my water element isn’t strong, my water elemental summoning likely isn’t weaker than those specializing in summoning.”

Fran was puzzled, ”Your grandmother was strong, but not like you. But I believe she had the Earth Bear bloodline, her strength was greater than a Sky Knight’s.

Most half-elves are rangers who can use some natural spells. She was no exception.

She had a typical elf temperament, quick to love and quicker to leave. We weren’t together long, so there’re many things I might not know.

Your mother didn’t take after either of us, I really don’t know which ancestor influenced her character.”

Hill felt that Fran had finally let go of the fact that his grandmother was an elf with the Earth Bear bloodline.

It seemed that the good impression his grandmother left overshadowed the shadow of the Earth Bear.

Fran hesitated for a moment but then said, ”Don’t let me hold you back when it comes to Perast. Though he’s bad, Melanie wasn’t killed by him.

She couldn’t let go or hold on, with love failing, she even came to hate being a mage.

I originally thought she would work hard to become an archmage, then she wouldn’t need to care about some earl.

But she probably didn’t find the strength of mages unique since she was exposed to them from a young age.

Such a good talent, completely wasted.

Died in an alchemy experiment?

She just didn’t want to live!

A person taught by an alchemist master caused an explosion incident.

During that time, how many people asked me what great experiment she was doing!”

Fran took a deep breath, ”How would I know what she was up to!

I sold alchemy potions to her every month to ensure her security, to let her live well with her child!

Not for her to cause trouble and seek death!”

Hill finally understood why Fran didn’t show up when Melanie lay bedridden and gravely injured for a long time.

He was utterly disappointed in his daughter.

”The main culprit, Helen, is already dead,” Fran stiffly said. ”Perast didn’t marry her to harm her, but who could’ve thought a courtier in pursuit of love would emerge.

She made such a fuss in the end, she must’ve known the truth about why Perast married her. Maybe he directly told her that someone at the court offered him benefits just to get her out!

She thought Perast loved her, but he just wanted a suitable wife and any additional benefits were a plus.

Pure love among nobles? That’s laughable!

When you visit Perast, I—”

Hill cut him off, ”Grandfather, I’m just repaying a life debt.

Don’t worry about me, I have no feelings for him.

The bond with my parents is minimal, I’ve accepted it.

At least I have you, Grandfather.”

Fran stayed silent for a long time before simply saying, ”Do as you see fit,” and then hastily cut off contact.

List was nearby and said, ”Master Fran, I’m not used to hearing your sincere emotions directly.”

”Grandfather hates Count Pelast to death,” Hill said flatly. ”He said that for my benefit; I’m not blind.”

”Are you coming back here?”

”No, if I go to Spencer, everyone will know I’ve returned.

I’ll head straight to the earl.”

”It might actually be better. Repaying the life debt, you won’t need to bother with that side anymore,” List said. ”Master Fran is still paying attention to the earl, just worried about them troubling you.

Even a slight connection could bring huge trouble.”

Hill made a sound of agreement and continued, ”I’ll just travel around there. Treat this trip like a wild adventure.”

List laughed, ”You always wanted to roam the world, explore everywhere, have fun!”

Hill silently cut off the communication and told Srei, ”Straight to that Spencer city.

Keep an eye on those people.”

”Yes, sir.”

Hill leaned heavily on the backrest of his chair; Fran had said such things to guard against William’s surveillance, not fearing Hill taking him too seriously.

Adrian probably confirmed with List that Hill wasn’t foolish enough to take such contradictory words to heart.

The best thing about this world, Hill thought, was that familial bonds didn’t bind you.

No one would tell Hill that’s your biological father, you must unconditionally forgive him, rush for him, beg for his life.

Once a life debt is repaid, no one meddles in your affairs.

In a world with deities, karma was the most important. Not even gods would sacrifice unconditionally for anyone, let alone humans.

The worst thing, of course, was that parents who loved their children unconditionally were rare too.

Also, good people died early, like the real William and Queen Spencer.

Being upright and kind-hearted in a place resembling the Middle Ages was practically a death sentence.

That neutral good alignment of William frightened Fran.

His words and actions carried a hint of forced kindness.

Kind deities were beyond a mage’s comprehension.

But Hill felt William wasn’t that foolish.

One could tell how he treated the Saral Royal Family.

Persisting in neutral goodness was probably for the players!

Pure neutral alignment, occasionally killing some civilians, was normal. Not leaning toward evil didn’t mean never doing bad things.

William wouldn’t dare let the players do that either.

Hill fantasized about the outcome of William’s neutral alignment and laughed to himself for a while.

Even devils would need to be re-summoned.

Hill couldn’t tell Fran much. After all, trying to establish a fair and just order in such a world, raising commoners’ living standards and moral cultivation, William’s will was indeed frightening.

Hill knew he wasn’t one to dedicate his life to the people, giving a bit of insignificant sympathy and help was already a carefully made decision.

Even speaking was only to his grandfather.

But if it was within his power and didn’t affect him, Hill was willing to lend William a hand.

Just like in his own world, though he couldn’t act as a hero, he would at least call the police.

Hill knew he was a self-loving person, but he respected those brave enough to fight and dedicate themselves.

But when it came to players, Hill wouldn’t interfere in their actions. Simply daring to deal with them was already Hill’s greatest act of courage.

He thought William was truly a great adventurer.
