Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 885: Thank You

The moment Iris became his disciple, he first told Vivian about it, considering she would be the grandmaster. Vivian wouldnʼt actively teach her, but she told Iris to read some books from the Ancient Library.

Unexpectedly, Alisha took the initiative to help Iris. She felt indebted to Nathan for allowing her to become a high elf, so this was the least she could do to repay Nathan.

Then Nathan informed Evelyn and Bella that he would leave soon. This time, he didnʼt know for how long he would go.

Depending on the situation, he might have to slow down the progress to prioritize their safety.

Once everything had settled down, it was time for them to go.

…

On the outskirts of the city, Selena was lying down on the grass field, staring at the night sky.

Her eyes were filled with excitement and sadness at the same time. For her, this trip was like a dream come true.

Because this was a trip for her, Nathan couldnʼt help but feel a bit worried.

”Why donʼt you get some rest?” Nathan asked after finding her on this field.

”Hmm…” Selena raised her head. ”Sorry… Itʼs not that I donʼt want to sleep, but I canʼt really sleep.”

Nathan smiled wryly. He just lied down next to her. ”It canʼt be helped, I guess.”

”En.” Selena took a deep breath. ”A few months ago, I didnʼt think a trip like this would happen anytime soon. My original plan was to summon good familiars and rescue my father before I graduate.

”Yet not only did I manage to find my father, I have grown strong enough to rescue him. It only took several months…”

It definitely felt surreal. For someone like her with no backing, she thought her dream was impossible.

But it was probably because of that meeting that everything changed. It was the terrorist attack that changed her fate. If not for that terrorist attack, Nathan wouldnʼt have talked to her or known her.

It was thanks to Nathan that she got to know Flora and Duke Coline. It was thanks to Nathan he was able to find the location from Duke Sullivan, Noelleʼs grandfather.

Without Alavenyaʼs help, the Dragon King wouldnʼt set up this kind of city, which allowed her to fully focus on her goal instead of worrying about the disaster.

Selena rolled toward him and just snuggled on him. ”Thank you.”

Nathan shook his head. ”Without you, I wouldnʼt be able to reach here this fast. You have been helping me with a lot of things, and you might not realize it.”

Selena tightened her grip. ”My father… was a great man. Although he was busy as a count, he always had time to play with me. I was blessed to have such a father.

”In fact, my father wasnʼt planning to have a second wife. However, when my mother had me in her stomach, it was said that I was born late for an unknown reason.

”As a result, my motherʼs womb was damaged, and she couldnʼt conceive another child.

”Because of that reason, my father was forced to take another wife so that the family would have a boy heir because of the vampire familiar.

”And Victor was born one year later. He got all the connections and care from the family, but Father never gave up on me. He tried to get everything I needed and tried to make me the heir of the family because I was the firstborn.

”That was why he must have sought the bloodstone in the alien territory. Ultimately, he failed and ended up in this situation.

”Because she was unable to conceive another child due to my birth, my mother blamed me for everything and passed away not long after. My uncle gave everything he had to Victor and married my second mother.

”He suppressed me in all aspects. After Victor was known to have the potential as a summoner, he got to the Frexia Academy first.

”Back then, I acted like I had lost all hope. I tried to hide everything, including my ena. When the inspector from the Frexia Academy came, I used that chance to contact that person secretly, showing my potential to become a summoner as well.

”Both of us agreed that for the sake of my safety, I would enroll at the academy one year later.

”It was suffocating. Every day, I kept thinking as I walked, as I slept, as I breathed… What am I supposed to do to avoid my fate?

”It felt like a rope choking my neck every single second. I was tired but still had to go on.

”It was then I met you. I could feel something similar from you. You saw through my desperation and understood me.

”At that time, I thought you were a wall that I had to overcome, but it turned out you were the person who would help me overcome that wall.

”Without me realizing it, you had pulled me from that darkness, showing me that the world would still be beautiful.

”You were like a lighthouse shining in the middle of the night to guide me to the right place.

”Nathan…” Selena smiled with tears swelling up in the corner of her eyes. ”Thank you.”

Nathan smiled before saying, ”I can understand you. With that kind of family, itʼs not weird for you to be unable to trust anyone. In fact, when you need someone… itʼs probably the hardest time in your life.”

That was right. On Earth, Nathan was the same. He wanted to ask for someoneʼs help. He wanted to escape from his father… his mother. He secretly wished, every night, that someday a person would come to him, pulling him away from this darkness.

Sometimes, no one realized that the person who could help them was staring right at them. For Nathan, he understood it when he was staring at a mirror one day. It was he who should help himself. He shouldnʼt rely on others.

For Selena, it was different. What she needed was him.

He escaped from his pain with the help of novels. But because he precisely understood this pain, he could now become that personʼs ʼlighthouse.ʼ

”But Iʼm here for you now. Itʼs time for us to move on from the past and grasp the future with our own hands. You, me, and everyone.”

Selenaʼs expression melted as she buried her face in his chest, not saying another word. It was time for her to break free from the darkness of her past and finally take a step forward to her… peace.
