Starting Cultivation During a Trip

Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Breaking Mountains and Attacking Temples, Kill Without Mercy

The great pill is refined in the sea of mortal sins, the enchanting devils of six days make one’s hair stand on end.

Directly let the primordial spirit enter my belly, only to be immortal, not mortal.

”Refining and Nourishing the Primordial Spirit as medicine!?” Zhang Fan’s heart stirred, this kind of thing is just like...

”Cannibalism, such demons should be punished!” Old Yu said solemnly.

”No one knows who the first person to use the primordial spirit as medicine was, or how they appeared...”

”This lineage seems to have no fixed methods or heritage, their existence is very mysterious, like sand gathering and dispersing in the long river of history...”

The Five Spirits Rainbow Light sped along the long mountain road, and Old Yu’s voice gradually became low.

Mentioning the history of the Daoist sect, this lineage can never be circumvented.

”They claim to be from the ’Non-action’ sect, seeking the way of longevity through the creation and destruction of action.”

”They establish temples on the mountains and observe in the rivers, dominating all the demonic ghosts under heaven, embracing the incense sacrifice of the four seas, sweeping through the universe, and curbing the spirit monsters across the world...”

”Historically, this lineage was once overwhelmingly powerful, with numerous masters emerging, so terrifying that they drew the attention of Daoist sects worldwide,” said Old Yu solemnly.

”This group of madmen believes that throughout history, how many immortals have achieved longevity? The red dust is but purgatory, and so-called cultivation is returning from the postnatal to the innate, stealing vitality in the midst of deadly peril.”

”Stealing vitality amidst deadly peril? It seems to make sense,” Zhang Fan mumbled softly.

”Nonsense.” Old Yu shouted abruptly, and the car lurched forward.

”Don’t speak such words carelessly, it will bring trouble.”

”They are heretics, and throughout the history of the Daoist sect, nearly every major event was related to this lineage. It was so severe that the Daoist sects of the world united several times to annihilate them. Perhaps you’ve heard of...”

At this point, Old Yu paused slightly, and even Wen He beside him fell silent.

”What?” Zhang Fan asked instinctively.

”Breaking Mountains and Attacking Temples, only killing, not crossing over!”

Eight simple words burst out from Old Yu’s teeth.

In the history of the Daoist sect, there have been nine large-scale ”Breaking Mountains and Attacking Temples”, the most famous of which was the grand sweep by the Zhengyi Celestial Master Tao at the time, with the slogan: Zhengyi alliance authority, Supreme fiat. Unify the three heavens, kill ghosts and raise humans. Punish evil and simulate the false, sort out ghostly energy.

”These nine Breaking and Attacking Temples events eventually wiped out this lineage completely.”

”Do they still exist now?” Zhang Fan couldn’t help asking.

”Refining and Nourishing the Primordial Spirit as medicine... is now a legend, it’s long dead out.” Old Yu said plainly.

Hoo...

As they spoke, the Five Spirits Rainbow Light drove along the mountain road and entered a tall iron gate, with rows of green pines standing majestically on either side.

”From here to the top of the mountain is all He Family’s territory,” Wen He said with a smile.

”Isn’t that a small half of a mountain? Can you still buy a mountain and enclose land like this now?” Zhang Fan couldn’t help but say, ”Doesn’t the authorities care?”

”Young man, you can’t imagine the world of the rich.” Old Yu grinned.

”The He Family is into refining, with countless dignitaries and nobles coming and going every day, seeking power, seeking fame, seeking profit...”

”The human heart is desire... the red dust is a hotbed, and also a paradise for spirit monsters,” Old Yu lamented.

In ancient times, the practice of refining was regarded as an obscene sacrifice, hidden only in remote countryside.

But today, it has transformed and can even enter the halls of nobility, even being honored guests by many dignitaries.

Indeed, as the Ancestral Master said, in the End of Dharma era, demons infiltrate the mortal world, having their way.

”And we still do business with them?” Zhang Fan couldn’t help but mutter.

”As long as there is money to be made, we aren’t doing anything immoral,” Old Yu said casually.

The four essentials of cultivation: skill, land, wealth, and companions.

The further you go in cultivation, the more money it consumes. Cultivating magic, refining elixirs, nurturing blood and flesh... all require a lot of money.

Zhang Fan is currently at the Qi Worker rank, not feeling the pressure from daily herbal gathering yet, but if aiming to reach High Skill rank, it would burn through money.

That’s right, it’s like burning money, as extravagantly as burning offerings to his ancestors for eighteen generations during the Qingming Festival.

Apart from improving one’s realm, cultivating magic also burns money.

For instance, the Daoists of Maoshan mostly cultivate talismans, and the expenses on talisman paper, talisman ink, talisman pens, etc., in one month alone is considerable. Those items are not ordinary pen, ink, and paper; they’re custom-made.

Night is not bright also takes orders from Maoshan, and even though they are one of the smaller suppliers, they can still sell talisman papers in seven figures each year.

Cultivation burns money!

True cultivation requires understanding the art of accumulating wealth in addition to the practice itself.

”The He Family really is wealthy!”

Zhang Fan was amazed; one who didn’t know might think they had arrived at some scenic spot, as in the distance, the manor lay nestled among lush green foliage.

”Sister Wen, what goods are we delivering?”

Zhang Fan couldn’t help but look at the car’s back seat, where there were a dozen jars, all sealed with yellow clay at the mouths, and all carrying Night is not bright company’s seal.

”The comb of an Iron Rooster!” Wen He said softly.

”What sort of rooster is an Iron Rooster?”

”A rooster raised on cinnabar...” Wen He explained.

This type of rooster is reared in the mountains from a young age, drinking mountain spring water, taking cinnabar, and after ten years becomes a true Iron Rooster, filled with intense energy, its pores showing a red hue, hence its feathers remain vigorous and unfading...

It’s akin to a person’s hair; robust energy results in dense hair, and feeble energy leads to dry, yellow, split, or even balding hair.

Therefore, generally correcting baldness starts with nourishing energy, but such people usually have insufficient Kidney Water, and even with energy supplementation, it’s difficult to maintain, so most of it dissipates...

Of course, that’s an aside.

For an Iron Rooster, due to its intense and rich energy, its feathers will not fall off, living up to the old saying, ”An Iron Rooster does not shed a single feather.”

Furthermore, this rooster’s meat is exceptionally firm, not falling apart even after two hours of boiling.

”The fox worshipped by the He Family loves the comb of an Iron Rooster the most, as all that energy is concentrated there...” Old Yu said coldly.

Every summer, the He Family orders large quantities of Iron Rooster combs from Night is not bright, and just these dozen jars...

”A hundred thousand per jar!”

”It’s that valuable!?” Zhang Fan couldn’t help but glance again, gradually developing a liking for his job.

”Fanfan, help me unload the goods later,” Wen He said softly.

...

At this time, the He Family Manor.

”Either it works or it doesn’t, what does taking a break mean?”

Just then, a disgruntled voice came through.

”How has your cultivation become so powerful?”

He Huan slowly stood up, her slim and even body exposed to the air. She tied her ponytails, took a tissue to wipe her mouth, and looked at He Fei lying silently beside her, her flushed face showing a look of puzzlement.

”Isn’t the skill you’re practicing from refining? Teach me...”

”This technique is dangerous; not everyone can learn it.” He Fei shook his head, ”You’re my sister; I can’t harm you.”

”Why didn’t you just say I’m your sister earlier?”

He Huan sneered, ”I don’t care, you must teach me.”

”The method I practice was passed on to me by someone else; if you want to learn it, I’ll have to ask them first.”

As soon as he finished speaking, He Huan suddenly stood up, picking up her scattered clothes from the ground, a sharp light flashing in her beautiful eyes.

”You’re going to kill again.”

He Fei raised his eyebrows; he knew his sister too well. Reckless and capricious, with extremely unstable emotions, once her consciousness becomes agitated, she has a murderous intent. Too many men have been played and ultimately killed by her.

In fact, few who practice refining are normal.

”Things aren’t like in ancient times; killing and cultivating is a big taboo.” He Fei warned.

”Do you need to meddle?” He Huan donned her clothes, her white socks revealing themselves from her feet and slowly reaching up to her thighs.

”Killing too much, letting your wild nature loose, aren’t you afraid of backlash?” He Fei frowned, speaking in a low voice.

”The red dust is the path without emotion, never sheathing the blade after slaughtering the world... Are we afraid of backlash?” He Huan sneered.

At this moment, in a rather foul mood, she knew only blood would settle her down. To her, human life was effective medicine, her thoughts would clear up.

”Young master, the people from Night is not bright have arrived.”

Just then, a low call came from outside the door.

”Understood, I’ll be there in a moment,” He Fei said solemnly.

”I have things to do; don’t go out.”

”Hm!”

He Huan let out a cold humph, looking out the window, a familiar silhouette caught her eye, surprisingly the same Zhang Fan she had encountered last time on the subway.

”It’s him? Seems like I don’t need to go out.”

He Huan paused for a moment, then a sharp gleam surfaced in her beautiful eyes, like a fox spotting its prey, growing excited.
