Serpent Ancestor

”Sigh, another one with connections.”

Elder Mo shook his head in disappointment.

Two days ago, a special recruit came for testing, and most of them failed. They ended up pleading for sympathy, and in the end, the Turtle lineage took them in.

Xu Hei was only slightly stronger than that phoenix bird.

If he rated the phoenix bird at fifty points, Xu Hei would be sixty.

”I’ve reported your assessment results. You can stay here for a day to see if any lineage is willing to take you in. If no one does, you have one chance to recommend yourself. If still no one accepts you, you may leave on your own.”

Elder Mo took out a token and transmitted Xu Hei’s information.

In the Penglai Sea, there are six major lineages: the Whale lineage, the Turtle lineage, the Sea Serpent lineage, the Roc lineage, the Shark lineage, and the Toad lineage.

Of course, names are just names. In reality, true whales in the Whale lineage are few, mostly dolphins and squids mixed together.

This is because the immortal spells of this lineage were passed down from ancient giant whales, hence the name Whale lineage. The same logic applies to the other lineages.

The six lineages are equivalent to the six main peaks of human sects, each peak with its own unique immortal spells.

Xu Hei might be chosen by any lineage, or none at all.

…………

In the eastern part of the Penglai Sea, within the Sea Serpent lineage.

A golden-ringed sea serpent lay lazily on the beach, basking in the sun, when suddenly there was movement on the communication talisman.

Elder Jin glanced at the token, seeing Xu Hei’s name and assessment information.

”Xu Hei? Why does that sound familiar?”

Elder Jin pondered for a while and suddenly remembered that a name often mentioned by Hai Teng seemed to be Xu Hei.

But looking at the assessment results, it was just barely passing, extremely mediocre.

”Should I take him in for a look?”

After considering for a moment, Elder Jin decided to inform Hai Teng of this news first and see his reaction before making a decision.

…………

To the south, within the Turtle lineage.

Elder Green Turtle had just received the news and immediately set out, transforming his body into a green lightning bolt, rushing towards the assessment island, raising towering waves.

”What incredible speed!”

”That’s the Lightning Step! Elder Green Turtle’s signature movement technique!”

”My goodness, what major event has occurred?”

The demonic beasts who witnessed this scene all showed expressions of surprise.

At the same time, in the north, a giant toad from the Toad lineage leaped out, riding the wild wind and lightning, heading towards the assessment island.

…………

Xu Hei waited in place, and after just a few breaths, three gigantic figures descended from the distant sky, landing on the island, almost covering the entire sky.

They were a giant green turtle, a toad covered in boils, and a narwhal.

”Three of them actually came!”

Elder Mo’s eyes flashed with surprise.

He had thought that such a mediocre serpent wouldn’t attract any attention, but unexpectedly, three elders arrived at once, so swiftly, as if afraid of being a step too late and losing out.

Xu Hei glanced at the three gigantic figures and quickly lowered his head, not daring to even breathe heavily.

At the forefront was a giant green turtle, its head resembling a dragon, body a hundred meters long, with sharp scales protruding from its shell, looking extremely ferocious.

Behind it, the toad had nine eyes on its body, boils bulging, emitting a gurgling sound, with purple-black mist swirling inside, and a body length of fifty meters.

The narwhal was even three hundred meters long, like a moving island, blocking out the sky and sun, its patterns reminding Xu Hei of the legendary Kun.

”Are you Xu Hei?”

The three demonic beast elders all turned their gaze towards Xu Hei, their voices low and deep.

Xu Hei’s heart sank. He had been trying to suppress his talents to avoid drawing attention, but it seemed the effect was not good.

He didn’t know if Hei Huang was secretly causing trouble or if he was just too famous.

Xu Hei could only bow his head and say, ”Xu Hei, greets the three elders!”

The narwhal stared at Xu Hei for a while before saying, ”Although I don’t know what makes you special, since the Dolphin Clan recommended you, I naturally have to take it seriously. Are you willing to join my Whale lineage?”

The green turtle glanced at him and sneered, ”Old man, everything should be done in order of arrival. I was the first to arrive, so I should speak first! Young one, I’ve taken a liking to you. Would you like to join my Turtle lineage?”

The last toad, with all nine eyes fixed on Xu Hei, said, ”Join my Toad lineage, and I can teach you supreme poison techniques.”

The three elders all focused their gaze here, and although they didn’t release any pressure, Xu Hei felt immense pressure nonetheless.

A whale, a green turtle, a toad, all wanting to take him in—what was going on? He hadn’t done anything!

Even the old flood dragon felt something was amiss. How could such an ordinary disciple suddenly receive so much attention? Or was this child’s identity not simple?

”Whoosh!”

Suddenly, a golden figure shot over from the distance—it was Elder Jin from the Sea Serpent lineage.

He flew over, took a look at the situation, and his heart sank. He then spoke directly, ”Xu Hei, we are all serpents. If you join my Sea Serpent lineage, I guarantee you the best treatment, making you the second Hai Teng.”

The reason for offering such conditions was because he arrived late, allowing the other three to get ahead, so he could only promise better treatment.

And it wasn’t over yet. Two more figures rushed over, Elder Yunhe from the Roc lineage and Elder Tiger Whale from the Shark lineage, both arriving.

”Xu Hei, join my Roc lineage, and I’ll take you as my personal disciple. Our lineage excels in alchemy, talismans, and formations.”

”Join my Shark lineage, and I’ll teach you the strongest hunting techniques!”

The two elders vied to speak first.

In just the time it takes for a stick of incense to burn, the elders of all six lineages had gathered, not a single one missing.

Elder Mo was dumbfounded.

At this moment, he had a feeling, as if there was an earth-shattering secret that everyone knew except him.

Could Xu Hei be a genius, and only he thought he was extremely mediocre?

”Old ghost, what’s going on?”

Elder Mo couldn’t help but secretly transmit his voice to Elder Green Turtle, but the latter didn’t respond at all.

Then he transmitted his voice to the narwhal, but the latter also ignored him.

”These old immortals!” Elder Mo cursed inwardly.

At the same time, Xu Hei was also complaining in his heart, ”Damn it! It must be the old dog secretly causing trouble!”

This phenomenon was inexplicable; it must be Hei Huang’s doing, using some means to make him famous!

In this situation, accepting any one of them would mean offending the other five, making Xu Hei feel like he was sitting on pins and needles. He had heard that to compete for disciples, these old monsters would even fight each other.

”Hurry and make a decision, don’t waste our time!” urged Elder Tiger Whale.

”Xu Hei, don’t listen to him. You can take your time to consider; we’re not in a hurry,” Elder Yunhe said with a smile.

”A choice concerning one’s life should be made carefully. It’s fine to consider for an entire day,” the narwhal said in a deep voice.

”Choose boldly, don’t be afraid of offending anyone. We’re not petty,” the toad said with a gurgling sound from its throat, though it was unclear if it was true.

The six elders surrounded the island tightly, causing shock and curiosity among the sea beasts outside. What kind of prodigy had arrived to make all six elders compete for him? It was truly a rare sight.

Xu Hei was silent for a moment, having already made up his mind.

He certainly wouldn’t consider for too long, as that would leave a bad impression on the elders.

Xu Hei took a deep breath and solemnly said, ”Elders, I have made my decision.”
