Reborn at Boot Camp: General, Don’t Mess Around!

Chapter 5438: Chapter 5438: Be on Guard

Hou Zi had indeed been involved in the underworld; his actions were more or less unclean, but fortunately, when he was young, he had found Xia Yiwei. Coming from the Xia family, Xia Yiwei imposed many constraints on him. Whenever she saw Hou Zi about to mix with trouble, she immediately reminded him, thereby preventing him from causing serious disasters.

Now, Hou Zi who had been ”invited for tea” for a week treated Xia Yiwei with the reverence due to an ancestor. The once awe-inspiring Hou Zi, who made both the underworld and lawful society tremble with a mere shake of his foot, now held little status at home. He might appear powerful and commanding outside, with an unknown number of billions in family wealth, but at home, he was willingly subservient as both a wife-worshipper and a doting parent.

Xia Jinyuan was somewhat relieved to hear that Xia Yiwei was not implicated.

”So now, the Li family is no longer capable of stirring up trouble? Staff Officer Du must be aware of this and has placed a lot of restrictions on Madam Li, right?”

”Little Madam Li had initially harbored some thoughts, but alas, when the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. The Li family is in the midst of troubled times, the Li faction is severely damaged, and not one person dared to step forward to promise Little Madam Li. Because of this matter, Little Madam Li ended up so mad that she had to be hospitalized for half a month.”

Commander Xia frowned at the mention of Little Old Madam Li. This old lady had been a handful in her younger days and, lacking the steadying presence of Old Master Li, she had started causing trouble again with the same energy she had in her youth.

Who would go to such lengths to argue with an elder? No, out of respect for her being a bereaved widow of Old Master Li, they wouldn’t.

But this old lady was truly formidable, taking hold of the fact that people would not hold her accountable, turning it into her license to be troublesome, constantly in motion without a moment of stillness.

In the end, Li Ronghuan stepped in, moving directly back to the Li family’s old residence. The energetic Little Old Madam Li, seeing her family’s backyard unguarded, rushed back to the old residence out of fear that the family business would be taken over. She has since been engaged in a battle of wits with Li Ronghuan.

”Madam Li is restrained by Staff Officer Du and doesn’t dare to get overly involved. She’s pretty much trapped in the Li family now. The only trouble is the son and daughter of Li Chuhai. National Security has found some traces, and I’m afraid both siblings are up to no good.”

That Li Chuhai had a son and daughter was no secret; when he returned to the country, he even brought them back, but sadly, it was a ruse. The real ones stayed in Molaban and have never showed their faces, their existence hidden even from the Li family, with no one knowing what they look like.

”His son, Li Jun, has been back to the country, and National Security here has a photograph of him. As for his daughter, there’s been no news, only that she’s apparently always been in Molaban and hasn’t left.”

Over the phone, Commander Xia laid out in detail every little thing that Xia Jinyuan wanted to know, including that Li Jun was aware of Ye Jian’s existence, clearly informing Xia Jinyuan of everything.

Now it wasn’t the Li family that Ye Jian needed to be wary of, but the son and daughter of Li Chuhai.

Xia Jinyuan, who had just hung up the phone, sat on the edge of his bed for a long time without getting up.

Molaban, yet again Molaban, the country he had visited most often in recent years. Now, with these lingering ties to Molaban, it seemed likely he would have to go back.

After sitting in his room for a while, Xia Jinyuan collected his thoughts before opening the door and going downstairs. It was not yet dinner time, and there was no one in the living room. Even Qin Xiu, who had returned, was not there. Glancing into the kitchen, he saw Ye Jian and Uncle Fu busy cooking and laughing together.

Just as Xia Jinyuan was about to go in and help, Uncle Fu, who was picking vegetables, immediately smiled and said, ”No, no, don’t come in, go check out the tea room instead. Old Master Qin loves having his grandson as his chess aide. You’d better go and be Old Man Xia’s aide, we can’t afford to lose.”

Ye Jian also urged him to go, ”Hurry and take a look. I’m not familiar with Go at all, so I can’t be any help. I was quickly chased out by Grandpa Gen when I went in.”
