Reborn at Boot Camp: General, Don’t Mess Around!

Chapter 5408: Chapter 5408: Gathering Together

The Chinese Embassy’s action was very efficient; the entire process from driving over to boarding the vehicle took only about ten minutes. Inside a T6 room, a family of three, except for the clueless child, the two adults went from nervousness to seriousness, and finally felt a heavy sense of responsibility. They were just shy of swearing an oath to the heavens that they would never speak of tonight’s events.

When boarding the vehicle, the couple still wore serious expressions, fearing that the embassy staff might not consider them reliable and trustworthy.

Although they were ordinary citizens, they were absolutely patriotic and loyal. How could they possibly do anything to harm their country! Absolutely not! They might lack other awareness, but this they surely possessed!

With embassy staff involved, Xia Jinyuan no longer needed to appear personally. He handed the child rescued from next door to Alice, and in response to her apology, Xia Jinyuan calmly stated, ”Miss Alice, the person you need to thank the most is your husband. It was he who protected you and your child.”

”Once you are in our homeland, we hope you can forget your previous identity, and our country will also protect you and your child well, ensuring that separation between mother and child, or even eternal parting, doesn’t happen again.”

The scientist had not yet been rescued, and the Chinese side would absolutely not give up on the rescue mission. Believing that the scientist, who was anxiously concerned for his wife and child now back in the homeland, would hear this news and be overjoyed, further reinforcing his determination to return to his homeland.

Alice embraced her child, whom she hadn’t seen for nearly twenty days, kissing the child’s considerably thinner cheeks repeatedly. Seeing her child’s anxious and scared eyes, Alice, who was also of Chinese descent, closed her eyes, and tears slowly streamed down her face.

She didn’t respond to Xia Jinyuan, only deeply bowed and said ”Thank you” once more.

Sometimes, it wasn’t that she didn’t want to choose, but rather... she had no choice at all.

Without choice, she had only one path to follow, even if it meant eternal separation from her husband.

Ye Jian glanced at her, a trace of pity flashing through her eyes. Originally placed beside the scientist as a spy, what happened instead was marriage and a child, and nearly ten years of marital affection turned the pretend into reality.

She sighed very softly, feeling somewhat emotional about the challenges Alice would have to face next. Once her husband returned to the homeland, how would she face the husband she had personally doomed to an almost certain dead end?

If forgiveness were possible, it might well be a good ending, but the trust between husband and wife was likely to be somewhat fractured. Even these challenges might have a turnaround, where one could openly face them and accept again.

The biggest challenge was Alice’s identity, and it was unclear what arrangements would be made for her upon returning to the Chinese side.

How to arrange, how to manage her, was not something that Special Forces involved in the rescue could participate in; their mission was solely to successfully rescue Alice back to her country.

From the planning stages to the actual execution of the rescue, several months had passed. The entire plan was cautiously and carefully thought through until the higher-ups believed the time was ripe to carry out the final step of the rescue plan, which at last was successful.

Mr. Will, who had spent a sleepless night waiting for news, learned by the next morning that Alice was about to leave Molaban, as she had personally contacted him.

Mr. Will dialed Xia Jinyuan’s phone again, but the call was disconnected, and though puzzled, he also secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Mercenaries—if it weren’t for the need to rescue his good friend, he would never have contacted them or dealt with them. Now that they had rescued the people and taken the money to discreetly leave, it was not bad at all.
