One-Eyed Monster

Kuyi Tulan is now completely in a state of bewilderment.

He does not know what this Shadow Ghost is up to. But he can tell that this Shadow Ghost is fully aware of all his plans, and being seen through like this is truly an unpleasant feeling.

Kuyi Tulan is now silent, completely suppressed like that Spirit, with no ability to resist; he feels trapped by these few words.

No one can figure out what is going on, not even the Spirit.

Memories let half of this Shadow Ghost rediscover the sensation of his youthful face, a long-lost feeling that made him feel he found a place to belong.

Where he came from doesn’t matter; what matters is finding a place to return to.

When he was originally buried here, many lamented his fall—such a genius. He was supposed to move on to another graveyard, but he became ordinary, abandoned by people.

That feeling wasn’t sensed at that time; he felt everything was under his control, as long as his consciousness remained, everything was replicable.

Who would’ve thought the only thing people remember is that youthful face?

”I want to go back. Even if I can’t own everything, I still felt wonderful back then!” he continued, his words full of sadness. He couldn’t comprehend what led him to where he is today.

”I don’t want to continue like this. What good is having everything when it’s still just a tangled mess of memories?”

”I leave everything to you, no, to you all. I’m free!”

Instantly, the Spirit felt a strange sensation!

”You can’t just dissolve like this; I don’t want to sleep!” A hysterical voice suddenly erupted from the Shadow Ghost’s mouth; this was an explosive reaction from the Spirit in such a critical moment, a desperate struggle.

Kuyi Tulan felt a great pressure suddenly lift off him, and the Blue Flame on him started stirring.

Seeing the awareness lower than his, the Devouring Power always impatiently wanted to go over and engulf. At that moment, Kuyi Tulan, without much thought, unleashed his Devouring Power, instantly enveloping the Shadow Ghost with Blue Flame!

Digest, integrate, become one!

This moment was very short, too short for Kuyi Tulan to sense such a change. But he had experienced this feeling before during previous devourings; now, he was simply reliving that sensation.

This feeling made Kuyi Tulan immediately understand what was happening! His Devouring Power was integrating the entire Shadow Ghost, meaning his consciousness had begun to take the lead. Soon, this Shadow Ghost would be him!

Could it be that his own backlash played a role? Kuyi Tulan thought, but clearly, it wasn’t the case. He could still feel the force of backlash; this wasn’t backlash, it was complete Devouring.

In the process of backlash, one would sense the other’s resistance and energy collision, but here, there was nothing, just a complete Devouring. He couldn’t feel any resistance from that Shadow Ghost inside, instead, he sensed scattered fragments as if the Shadow Ghost directly shattered, allowing him to Devour and absorb!

Though this was what he always dreamed of, the sudden result left him feeling uneasy.

Becoming this replacement, why would it be such an easy process? Shouldn’t it be difficult!

Moreover, with the other half of the Shadow Ghost dissolved, shouldn’t his corresponding Spirit enter a dormant state too? This left Kuyi Tulan very puzzled.

But soon, this doubt was dispelled.

Because that Spirit directly spoke to him.

This directness came suddenly; he wasn’t prepared at all. Now the Awakening Equation for this Spirit had fully transferred onto him. How this could happen, he could not understand.

It seemed a more powerful force was at play.

”You have now become the substitute!” was the first thing the Spirit said directly to him.

”You are to serve me!” the Spirit continued, and this was more of a commanding tone, which made Kuyi Tulan uncomfortable.

This tone made Kuyi Tulan feel he was entirely a Puppet, a subordinate, completely lacking freedom.

”Why should I obey your command?” Kuyi Tulan thought he wasn’t a lamb to be slaughtered.

”Because I’m stronger than you; I can grant you more power,” said the Spirit.

”I can also put you to sleep, can’t I?” Kuyi Tulan replied, thinking this Spirit was too arrogant, not considering others at all.

”You can try; your ability is not enough to make me sleep. You can’t reach that party’s level, unable to spontaneously scatter your own consciousness,” the Spirit easily stated, because he was indeed powerful, not lying.

”But, I don’t have to obtain energy from you; I can summon energy myself,” Kuyi Tulan countered.

”You’re still too arrogant. You’re now a substitute; Devouring all about him signifies you represent his existence. Everyone awakens only one Spirit. The Spirit you originally awakened no longer exists; it has been completely devoured by me.”

Kuyi Tulan did not believe this, trying to summon energy but eventually finding nothing gained.

”Stop trying. Can’t you sense the changes around you? Everything about you is under my control; you must listen to me!” The Spirit’s tone sharpens, having little patience left.

Kuyi Tulan calms down, pondering the words said by the Shadow Ghost as it dissolved, gradually understanding some things.

He’s now the substitute for the other part of the Shadow Ghost, but he still lacks qualification to harness this Spirit. That abyss-like energy is indeed out of reach for him at this moment.

However, he also understands he’s not entirely helpless; now his identity is the Awakener of the Shadow Ghost Spirit, which can quickly help him find his own position. Equivalent Exchange, the two sides of the equation are relative. He knows this Spirit is also inseparable from him. It’s merely using energy to threaten him now.

”I am a substitute, yes, but don’t forget, I am not only a substitute; I am also a leader. Your existence cannot be separated from me. You can withhold energy, but you also cannot release your energy, can you!”

Kuyi Tulan’s lips curled into a smile; his rebuttal was powerful. He could feel his body’s senses returning; at least now, he could control his own body. However, the Spirit controlled the energy, preventing him from releasing all his energy like before.

Therefore, the entire Soul Guardian Team he controlled before was no longer constrained...
