Longevity through Upgrading Buildings

Chapter 792 - 330: The Different Human Race

However, Ji Yuan was the unexpected one!

The leading Patterned Wolf Merfolk retreated several feet in shock at the sight of the sea beast that appeared before him.

The rest of the merfolk also cried out in panic.

It was clear that they all knew the terror of this sea beast.

Sitting idly by was not an option. The Patterned Wolf Merfolk gripped his spear tightly, and the tattoo on his back immediately glowed with a bloody light, just as he was about to take action.

He suddenly discovered a figure appearing out of thin air in front of him.

A figure with two legs.

This person appeared right beside the head of the sea beast.

Then the Patterned Wolf Merfolk witnessed a scene he would never forget: he saw this person raise his right hand and bring it down in a hammer-like motion, and immediately this sea beast, which could have taken his life... just died.

Its head was effortlessly pierced by the punch.

”%￥#@&”

”...”

The remaining merfolk shouted out in unison.

Ji Yuan casually washed his right hand clean in the seawater, then slightly turned his body to glance at the leading Patterned Wolf Merfolk.

The latter immediately understood and hurriedly bowed to Ji Yuan.

Then he took the initiative to move forward, dragging the tail of the sea beast and continued swimming forward.

The remaining four merfolk picked up the sea fish’s corpse and followed closely behind.

But when they looked at Ji Yuan again, their eyes were filled with both fear and reverence.

Ji Yuan, as always, fell to the back and acted as their guardian.

From then on, the journey was much smoother, until a day later, they encountered the same kind of sea fish as before.

As expected, it was Ji Yuan who acted again.

But this time, he was smarter, preparing a stone in advance to shatter the brain of the fish.

The harvest was so bountiful that they couldn’t carry it all, so Ji Yuan had to carry some himself.

But thinking back on all the Tier Two Sea Beasts he had slain along the way... it seemed like such a waste.

Finally, the group of merfolk arrived in front of a massive underwater mountain range, which Ji Yuan had already detected with his Divine Sense, revealing a crack in the rock wall ahead.

The leading Patterned Wolf Merfolk halted and chattered for a while, and then the other five merfolk struggled to drag the sea beasts’ corpses into the rock wall.

...An array?

Or an illusion realm?

Ji Yuan’s interest was piqued at the sight.

An array was unlikely, as the Fallen Immortal Gully did not allow for the existence of Spiritual Qi.

The Patterned Wolf Merfolk returned to Ji Yuan’s side and gestured for him to proceed.

...The merfolk’s manners were not much different from humans, suggesting they might indeed have some inexplicable relationship with the Human Race.

Ji Yuan nodded slightly and swam forward.

He finally reached the rock wall, and just as the Patterned Wolf Merfolk tried to lead the way, Ji Yuan had already stepped through the rock wall in one stride.

After that step, his sight opened up.

What Ji Yuan saw was a scene reminiscent of a dreamland.

Within the underwater mountain range was a vast space. The stone walls all around were adorned with luminescent stones, illuminating the place as if it were daylight. There were also numerous gigantic shells, seemingly decorative but also resembling dwellings.

Merfolk swam everywhere, both male and female.

The male merfolk were rather hideous, but the female merfolk were extremely beautiful.

Each had exquisite features, with deep chests reminiscent of vast seas.

Um... like seas that embrace all rivers.

But unfortunately, they were all covered by shells.

Their skin was extremely fair, and under the cave’s luminescence, it seemed almost glowing.

Seeing these merfolk inevitably reminded Ji Yuan of Yun Qianzai.

Back in the Coastal City, his second senior brother had enthusiastically recommended these merfolk.

Ji Yuan eventually relented and went to have a look with him.

As it turned out, the so-called merfolk were merely female cultivators who had practiced a unique cultivation technique.

’I never thought that true merfolk existed here.’

Ahead, a plaza was bustling with many merfolk, yet more merfolk were swimming over from all directions, all eager to look at the corpses of the sea beasts.

They were very excited, as if they hadn’t seen such a bounty for a long time.

But gradually, some merfolk quieted down as they noticed a bizarre figure at the entrance!

A strange figure with an entirely different appearance from them.

Some timid female merfolk began screaming, waking those who hadn’t noticed yet.

Soon, all the merfolk present became aware of Ji Yuan’s presence, their gazes filled with vigilance.

Yet mostly, they were curious.

After all... it was just like when Ji Yuan had first seen these merfolk with fish tails.

It was also their first time seeing a person with two legs.

Quickly, the Patterned Wolf Merfolk swam in from the door.

As soon as he entered, he squealed a few remarks, and from the merfolk crowd, a smaller merfolk swam out.

Ji Yuan saw clearly that this was the earlier Patterned Dog Merfolk.

The merfolk responded with a few sentences, which instantly calmed the previously tense Patterned Wolf Merfolk.

Ji Yuan had no doubts, as he had already extended his Divine Sense and observed everything clearly.

Behind these merfolk, an elder-looking merfolk was swimming over, with a cane in hand and flanked by four large young merfolk.

Ji Yuan’s Divine Sense had also detected the tattoos on the backs of these four merfolk, which featured... crabs!

A crab that looked very formidable.

But as for the elder merfolk, the wrinkles on his skin made it hard for Ji Yuan to see his tattoo clearly.

As soon as the elder merfolk arrived, the other merfolk made way and bowed to him, speaking words Ji Yuan couldn’t understand.

This elder merfolk was presumably... the patriarch of the merfolk?

Or their leader?

Ji Yuan gracefully floated forward, stopping in front of the elder merfolk, and slightly bowed.

Then he watched as the elder merfolk began to speak, gradually uttering a language that Ji Yuan was familiar with.

”Never... never expected that in my... my lifetime, I would... would still be able to see the Human Race.”

”The last time my clan saw the Human Race was still in my... my... grandfather’s grandfather’s time.”
