Longevity through Upgrading Buildings

Chapter 790 - 330: The Merfolk

The spearhead is not some kind of Magical Treasure; it is simply made from a hard oak stone.

To be precise, it’s hand-crafted; a stone polished smooth to make it even sharper.

And behind this spearhead, something like fish tendons ties a short branch as the spear shaft, something... that only humans could probably come up with.

From the polishing marks on this spearhead and the uncorrupted fish tendons, this thing isn’t very old.

It’s certainly not an artifact from centuries past but something left here in recent years.

”In this terrifying undersea, is there really someone else?”

”Could it be someone who’s also fallen into the Fallen Immortal Gully like me?”

Ji Yuan looked around, seeing nothing but the dim seabed, with no light in sight, apart from the occasional sea beast, with no trace of any other creatures.

Immediately, Ji Yuan released his Divine Sense.

The Divine Sense is driven by the power of the Divine Soul. Ji Yuan’s Divine Sense is powerful because his Divine Soul is strong, so it can be used in this Fallen Immortal Gully.

The Divine Sense spread in all directions.

Soon, Ji Yuan found a similar spearhead in another place.

Besides that, he also found several round stones that looked like... pellets.

Humans.

There must be living people nearby.

They also know they can’t use Spiritual Power, so they choose to kill sea beasts in the most traditional way, because if humans can’t use Spiritual Power, neither can the sea beasts.

But even with Ji Yuan releasing his Divine Sense at full strength, he couldn’t find any other living people.

”Could it be that I felt wrong?”

”No way, it’s impossible for these to appear here out of nowhere; there must be other traces nearby.”

Ji Yuan carefully searched with his Divine Sense, and sure enough, he soon found many similar traces to the southeast, and even some fresh scratch marks remained on a pile of rocks.

As if left a few months ago.

”At my speed, I must have reached the range of the Jiyuan Continent by now.”

”According to that sea map from last time, moving forward, I’ll reach the territory of the Tier Four Sea Beast. If I can find living people here... I can also inquire about the situation ahead.”

”There’s no need to worry about danger; with my current Body Cultivator strength and the Spirit Devouring Armor I’m wearing, as long as I don’t encounter a Body Cultivator at the Golden Body Profound Bone Realm, it’ll be fine.”

”But as far as I know, the Cangluo Continent has no Body Cultivators, and it’s similar in the Jiyuan Continent.”

While contemplating this, Ji Yuan slightly changed direction and flew towards the southeast.

The traces he found earlier were about thirty miles to the southeast, and at his current speed, even being cautious, it would only take a dozen breaths.

He stood on the rubble, examining the traces around him.

”Not just one person; it must be a group. They were encircling the twin-clawed fish-like sea beast I encountered last time, but... isn’t that a Tier One Sea Beast?”

”Even killing a Tier One Sea Beast is so troublesome, so it seems that group’s strength isn’t very strong.”

”But they do seem cautious; the battlefield is such a mess, yet no footprints or anything have been left behind.”

”...”

While contemplating, Ji Yuan once again released his Divine Sense, focusing this time particularly on the southeast.

Sure enough, upon arriving there and releasing his Divine Sense, many more traces became visible.

Almost every few miles, traces of battles could be seen.

Even numerous Water Blade marks were visible among them.

This indicates that this group knew how to wield Water Blades to attack sea beasts, or perhaps even the Water Blades summoned by the sea beasts themselves before dying... but, why haven’t I found them yet?

Ji Yuan continued flying towards the southeast.

Moreover, he paused every so often to release his Divine Sense and investigate carefully.

After about an hour, as Ji Yuan was traveling, he suddenly stopped.

There was movement ahead!

He quickly released his Divine Sense to sweep ahead, and the scene in the sea valley ahead instantly appeared in his mind.

”What is that...”

Under the Spirit Devouring Armor, Ji Yuan instinctively opened his mouth.

What kind of scene was that?

It was a group of ”people” fighting a black-and-white striped sea fish.

The sea beast likely originated from the Extreme Abyss Continent, which Ji Yuan had never seen before.

All he knew was that its size was large, but its attack power was not strong.

At most, it had strong defenses, but in front of Ji Yuan... it was only a matter of one punch.

A mere Tier One Sea Beast, equivalent to a Qi Cultivation Cultivator; Ji Yuan’s current Body Cultivator strength is equivalent to a Core Formation Cultivator.

But that’s not what’s important.

What’s important is the group of people.

What kind of people are they?

Merfolk.

The upper body is human; the lower body is fish.

As simple as that.

They are either holding the short spears Ji Yuan had seen before or holding slingshots, constantly attacking the sea beast in front of them.

”@#￥%&”

”*#@!”

”...”

The Merfolk made strange sounds, and every time they spoke, they exhaled bubbles.

Breathing... where their long ears should have been were replaced with fish gills.

That’s how they could survive underwater.

As for their Cultivation...

There was none.

They just had incredibly powerful physiques. From the short spears they threw, Ji Yuan judged they at least had the strength of late-stage Qi Cultivation.

Being able to breathe underwater without Cultivation, relying only on physical strength—no wonder they could survive in this Fallen Immortal Gully.

Ji Yuan instantly understood.

So, should I make contact with them now?

After some hesitation, Ji Yuan decided to try. Of course, a major reason was that this was his first time encountering this kind of different human race.
