Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1406: Chapter 1406: The Powerful Consort of the Military Family (16)

The weather was scorching, and after some discussion, the Young Emperor decided to go to the Summer Resort to escape the heat.

The late Emperor used to go there every year.

This year, the Young Emperor could still endure it, so he hadn’t gone yet.

But now, it was getting hotter, and even the Young Emperor couldn’t stand it anymore.

After all, it didn’t make much difference where the Emperor worked.

He didn’t have to be on-site anyway.

The list of people going to the Summer Resort was quickly drawn up, and the Young Emperor brought it over for Chuzheng to review.

”Noble Consort Xuan is going too?”

The Young Emperor nodded: ”If she doesn’t go, Uncle might get suspicious.”

Chuzheng glanced at the Young Emperor.

No wonder they say ’like father, like son,’ ’a dragon gives birth to a dragon, a phoenix gives birth to a phoenix, and a mouse’s son knows how to dig holes.’ In such a short time, this little boy has learned these things.

Chuzheng asked Su Xue to bring her a pen.

She added Rong Shi at the end of the list.

”Mother?”

”You know that General Rong and the Regent Prince don’t get along, right?”

”...Yes.”

He had heard Eunuch Yang De mention it.

Chuzheng bluffed him: ”What is the enemy of your enemy?”

The Young Emperor was quick on the uptake: ”A friend?”

Chuzheng happily returned the list to the Young Emperor.

[Sister, don’t you feel guilty for tricking a child?]

No, I don’t have a conscience.

[...] Sorry to bother you.

-

On the day of departure, Chuzheng asked Su Xue to bring Princess Yudie to her.

Kidnapping a hostage is the only way the Good Person Card will come to you.

[...] As usual, her choice of words is strange.

Princess Yudie dared not defy the Empress Dowager’s order and got into Chuzheng’s carriage with Su Xue.

Others, seeing Princess Yudie entering Chuzheng’s carriage, had different thoughts.

The Regent Prince looked towards Chuzheng from horseback.

The curtain was tightly closed, and he couldn’t see anything.

Beside him was Rong Shi, also on horseback.

The man in blue with a jade crown had a stern expression and handsome features.

The kind that makes young girls blush and their hearts race with just one glance.

Regent Prince: ”...”

The Regent Prince urged his horse forward and, with a fake smile, said fakely: ”I trouble General Rong to protect us along the way.”

”It’s my duty; no need for your reminder.” Rong Shi dropped this line and walked straight ahead.

”...”

The Regent Prince was left fuming, unable to vent his frustration.

-

Chuzheng changed into a more casual outfit, not quite like palace attire, form-fitting and convenient for movement, and certainly not like the Empress Dowager.

She looked more like the daughter of a wealthy family going out for a trip.

At first glance, she seemed much more approachable.

”Princess Yudie, please have some tea.”

Su Xue handed over a cup of cold tea.

Princess Yudie cautiously took it: ”Th-Th-Thank you.”

Su Xue smiled: ”It’s what I should do, Princess Yudie, you’re too polite.”

The carriage made its way to the Summer Resort, and the journey was quite long.

The Young Emperor sneakily joined Chuzheng’s carriage halfway through and refused to leave.

Eunuch Yang De had no choice but to move the Young Emperor’s belongings over.

Noble Consort Xuan, during a break, also tried to join but was innocently and obediently refused by the Young Emperor.

Noble Consort Xuan returned to her carriage with a sullen face.

”What’s going on with you lately?”

Noble Consort Xuan opened the curtain and saw the Regent Prince inside.

Startled, she quickly approached.

”Your Highness.”

The Regent Prince spoke in a cold tone: ”What’s with you and His Majesty lately?”

”It’s all that Nie Chuzheng’s fault, ruining my plans time and again.” Noble Consort Xuan complained to the Regent Prince.

If it weren’t for her, how could the Young Emperor treat her like this now?

The Regent Prince knew everything happening in the palace.

For these incidents, only Noble Consort Xuan could blame herself for being careless.

Still acting like she’s the young lady of the house.

”I’ve warned you; the palace is not like outside. Learn from these experiences. Find a solution quickly and don’t disappoint me.”

Noble Consort Xuan: ”Your Highness...”

The Regent Prince didn’t give her a chance to speak, lifted the curtain, and left.

-

Rong Shi appeared only after the Young Emperor left.

”Cousin.” Princess Yudie was the first to spot him, her voice brimming with excitement, her eyes sparkling.

Like a child seeing a parent after school.

How childish!

Chuzheng rolled her eyes internally, her gaze landing on the approaching man.

Rong Shi held a food box, and as he approached, he politely bowed and then placed the food box down.

”Inside are some iced candied fruits for you to try, Empress Dowager.”

Princess Yudie carefully glanced at Chuzheng, and seeing no objection, she quickly opened the food box.

There was ice inside, with candied fruits placed on plates on top of it.

”Mother.” Princess Yudie took out a small plate and handed it to Chuzheng.

Chuzheng hadn’t taken it when the Young Emperor burst in from somewhere: ”Mother, how can you eat alone!”

”...”

Unfilial son!

I haven’t even eaten yet!

The Young Emperor took it and first popped a grape into Chuzheng’s mouth, then gobbled up the rest himself.

Chuzheng: ”...”

”So refreshing.” The Young Emperor was utterly content, only then noticing someone else was there: ”Huh, General Rong, when did you get here?”

”I’ve been here the whole time.”

”Really?” The Young Emperor casually waved his hand: ”We don’t need to stand on ceremony outside, have a seat.”

Rong Shi: ”...”

Rong Shi initially planned to leave after delivering the items.

Who knew the Young Emperor would persuade him to stay.

An imperial order cannot be defied.

Rong Shi had no choice but to sit down.

The candied fruits from the food box were taken out, and Chuzheng only had a little, while the Young Emperor and Princess Yudie finished off the rest.

”Did General Rong bring these?”

”Yes.”

”Does General Rong have any more?”

”There are some left.”

The Young Emperor’s eyes lit up: ”I would like to have more.”

The wild is not like the palace; even at night, it’s still stiflingly hot.

Iced candied fruits are delicious and refreshing.

The Young Emperor, at an age lacking self-control, naturally wanted to eat them all at once.

Chuzheng shattered the Young Emperor’s dreams: ”Why eat so much cold stuff at night?”

”Your child wants to eat.”

”Have you finished reading the memorials?”

”...”

Is Mother a demon!

Bringing up memorials at night!

The Young Emperor’s eyes darted around: ”Mother, aren’t you tired? Do you want to rest first?”

”I’m not tired.”

”...”

The Young Emperor slumped onto the table, fingers tapping on the ice in the food box.

Eunuch Yang De suggested: ”Your Majesty, it’s getting late, how about resting?”

”Oh.”

The Young Emperor reluctantly got up and left.

After bidding farewell to the Young Emperor, Rong Shi also said goodbye to Chuzheng.

Princess Yudie returned to her carriage to rest at night, while Chuzheng sat outside for a while before slowly climbing into her carriage.

Just as she lay down, someone knocked on the right side of the carriage wall.

Chuzheng opened the carriage window to look out.

Outside stood a soldier in uniform.

He respectfully said: ”Empress Dowager, the General asked me to bring this over.”

What Rong Shi sent over was also a food box, but inside there were pastries and a pot of fruit tea.

Chuzheng thought the Good Person Card was suddenly trying to curry favor with her for some reason.

She only found out the next day, he had also sent them to Princess Yudie and the Young Emperor.

Chuzheng: ”...”

Get rid of him!
