Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 796: Chapter 796: The Childhood Sweetheart Gets Married (22)

Mu Shen came over after school and was surprised to see Chuzheng there.

Cai Hu made faces at Mu Shen.

Brother Shen, look at me, I brought the person for you!

”Ah, Brother Shen, I just remembered I have something to do, I have to go first,” Cai Hu said, dragging Geng Hao and Nong Ye away.

”But I’m fine...”

”You will be in a second.”

The three of them left hastily.

Only Chuzheng and Mu Shen were left.

Chuzheng leaned against the wall, her Shengfeng High School uniform perfectly outlining her figure.

Mu Shen hadn’t expected those three to do something like that and stood there somewhat stiffly.

He hesitated, then said, ”Thanks for the birthday gift last time.”

She hadn’t responded to the post he made on his friend circle, and he wasn’t sure if she hadn’t seen it or was pretending not to.

”Did you like it?”

The custom candy was quite a hassle, and she had spent quite a bit of money on it.

If the Good Person Card didn’t like it—then she’d have to make him say he liked it.

Mu Shen nodded, ”I like it, thank you.” He couldn’t help but like such a gift.

”Glad you liked it.” It wasn’t a waste of all her time: ”I’ll give you another one next time.”

If the Good Person Card liked it, she would give more.

-

”Did you recognize me right away?”

Chuzheng suddenly asked.

Mu Shen was taken aback, his lips parting slightly, ”You...remembered?”

”Yeah.”

”I thought you had forgotten,” Mu Shen said softly.

He had wanted to ask her a few times.

But Chuzheng seemed to have no recollection of the past.

Mu Shen felt he didn’t need to bring it up either.

Chuzheng asked him, ”When did you recognize me?”

Mu Shen said, ”When I knew your name.”

That name was very unique.

Even though he had never recalled this childhood friend before meeting her,

But...

The moment he heard her name, Mu Shen’s memory seemed to suddenly unlock, with a familiarity and longing he couldn’t quite describe.

Neither of them mentioned their childhood.

Chuzheng didn’t want to recall it, as it wasn’t her memory.

Mu Shen didn’t want to say it, because his childhood wasn’t happy, filled with darkness even with that little girl’s presence.

He didn’t want to reveal those things in front of this girl.

Mu Shen had a feeling.

The girl in front of him was the same little girl from his childhood, but at the same time she wasn’t...

”Where are you going?” Chuzheng changed the subject.

”I’m going to tutor,” Mu Shen said, not embarrassed, as if it was a very ordinary matter.

After school, he could use that time to tutor and earn some money.

”I’ll take you there.”

”... No need,” Mu Shen wanted to decline.

Chuzheng had already walked ahead, signaling him to follow.

Mu Shen: ”...”

-

The tutoring job Mu Shen had was introduced by that caretaker.

The location was a bit far, and Mu Shen usually took the subway there.

Chuzheng didn’t ask Jing Liang to follow her in the car, so naturally, she had to take the subway with Mu Shen.

At this time, it was the peak rush hour.

The subway was as crowded as during the Spring Festival travel rush.

After getting on the subway, Mu Shen carved out a small space for Chuzheng.

Chuzheng glanced at him, but Mu Shen frowned and looked to the side, not looking at her.

When the subway started and stopped, it jostled slightly, there were people all around Chuzheng, crowding her so much she couldn’t move, so she could only lean towards Mu Shen.

Chuzheng, squeezed until she was irritable, suddenly reached out and hugged Mu Shen’s waist, pressing her body into his chest.

Such a gesture should have come across as a demure and feminine act.

But with Chuzheng’s attitude, it seemed anything but demure; it was more like she was arrogantly clinging to her own possession.

Mu Shen had not expected Chuzheng to suddenly act this way, and his whole body stiffened.

His nose was filled with the unique fragrance of a young girl.

When the subway came to an abrupt stop, Mu Shen’s body swayed, and instinctively, he wrapped his arms around her.

Mu Shen was even more rigid, as if frozen in place.

Yet his heartbeat was thumping unusually fast.

Mu Shen looked around; people nearby were engrossed in their phones, seemingly oblivious to them.

He glanced at Chuzheng again, who was staring at a young girl next to them, unconcerned with their current stance.

Mu Shen wanted to let go of Chuzheng, however, space was limited now.

Mu Shen couldn’t move.

Feeling her body pressed against his chest, the warmth spread up his spine all the way to his ears.

Mu Shen had never felt a journey this long before.

He was tormented and yet... he didn’t want it to end.

”We’re here,” Chuzheng reminded him, withdrawing her hand from around his waist.

Mu Shen responded with a grunt, waiting for some people to get off before retracting his hand and exiting the subway with Chuzheng.

On the way out, Mu Shen didn’t say a word, not even daring to glance at Chuzheng.

When they reached the surface, Mu Shen rifled through his bag for his phone, but couldn’t find it after a long search.

Chuzheng turned back to look at him: ”What’s wrong?”

”My phone... it seems to be missing.”

Mu Shen remembered putting his phone in his bag.

”Lost it?”

Once sure it wasn’t in his bag, Mu Shen frowned and nodded: ”Seems like it.”

On the subway, his mind had been occupied by Chuzheng, hardly paying attention to his surroundings.

It must have been stolen during that time.

Given the subway’s heavy traffic, it was definitely irretrievable now.

Taking a deep breath, he zipped up his bag: ”It’s okay, let’s go.”

Chuzheng asked, ”Is there anything important in there?”

Mu Shen shook his head: ”Not really.”

That phone was basically for contacting people and didn’t serve any special purpose.

”Oh.”

After escorting Mu Shen to the entrance of the community where he tutored, Chuzheng watched him go in and then turned around, realizing this place looked familiar...

It was the community where her worthless stepfather lived.

Why was the Good Person Card tutoring here?

Hopefully, it wasn’t such a coincidence that he was tutoring her crappy little brother.

The more Chuzheng thought about it, the more uneasy she felt; she followed Mu Shen inside.

The exterior of the community was lined with high-rise apartments, leading to a series of terraced houses within.

Shang Yu lived in the villas at the back.

Mu Shen wasn’t heading to a villa belonging to the Shang family, and Chuzheng felt somewhat relieved.

”Yao Chuzheng, what are you doing here?” An admonishing voice came from behind her, its tone caught in the awkward throes of puberty, slightly grating, like a duck’s quack.

Chuzheng turned to look.

A teenager in a blue T-shirt stood behind her, holding a basketball and looking at her with disgust.

It was none other than the original body’s troublemaker younger brother.

When Chuzheng had been living with the Shang family, this brother had never shown her a shred of respect.

Mild verbal abuse was just the tip of the iceberg; sometimes he even played cruel tricks on her.

And Chuzheng’s mother would always side with her little troublemaking brother, no matter whether she was at fault or not, always blaming her.

”You messed up my family enough, and now you even dare to show up? How shameless can you be? Did you run out of money outside and now remember my house? If you need money, why don’t you ask your man, huh? You’re so young, yet already dating; are you that desperate for a man, you *&^%$#...”

The teenager’s words were quite offensive.

”Whether I’m in need or not, what’s it to you?” Chuzheng replied coldly.

Such disrespect from someone so young, he was asking to be disciplined.

”You’re not welcome here, get out! I feel sick just looking at you,” the teenager’s face was full of repulsion: ”Don’t even think about coming back to my house.”
